Summer Campaign Launch Event
We kicked off the summer campaign with a successful media event on July 10, amidst a
spectacular backdrop, thanks to community partners Arts and Venues Denver and Red
Rocks Amphitheatre. Thanks to all who attended our summer Lockdown campaign launch
event on the plaza at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It was a perfect summer morning to unveil
the campaign to law enforcement, community partners and the media. This year’s campaign
theme focuses on the dangerous implications of auto theft to encourage the general public
to never leave personal information in their cars such as vehicle registration, banking
information and credit cards that may give thieves unwanted access to their lives.
The Lockdown message will reach citizens through an integrated advertising campaign
The Lockdown message is supported through a paid media campaign including outdoor,
online and radio advertising. Coloradans will see the campaign across the Denver metro area
on 30 bus backs, 30 bus boards, five 16th Street Mall-Ride shuttle exterior signs and 35
interior cards inside the 16th Street Mall-Ride.
As part of our event venue partnership, Red Rocks Amphitheatre will display signage in
each of the Red Rocks parking lots and at each venue entrance for 42 public concerts and
events. As you know, it requires a community effort to combat auto theft, which is why
we’re partnering with Red Rocks Amphitheatre to remind thousands of event-goers to protect
themselves.
We were also able to negotiate added value with our media partners. One of our biggest
partners, KBCO radio, will be promoting their giveaway of the “Best Seats on the Rocks,”
where they'll award their listeners with awesome seats for KBCO shows at Red Rocks. This
is a perfect fit for our campaign! KBCO will include CAAT in all of the live and recorded
promotional mentions around this giveaway (“brought to
you by lockdownyourcar.org "), as well as inclusion in
KBCO e-newsletters.
Finally, the most crucial part of our campaign is task force
support. This year we have CAAT Plinko boards that task
forces can take to events across the state as a fun way to
engage citizens in the subject of auto theft.
Please let us know which events you are planning to
attend. We would like to hear how you are using your
campaign marketing materials to connect with citizens in
your community. Please contact Jane McGillem if you
have a story or pictures to share in an upcoming issue of
Lockdown Lowdown.
If you were not able to attend the summer launch event to pick up your campaign materials,
you will receive them in the mail. Materials include:
Lockdown Flyers
Lockdown Plinko boards
Lockdown Prizes for Plinko Contestants: Sunglasses and Key Chains
Lockdown Press Kit (complete with media tips, creative files and press release)
Have questions or need additional materials? Please contact Courtney Housam.
The new Lockdown shades are the hottest summer accessory--even Governor Hickenlooper
approves of the look! We had the opportunity to chat with Governor Hickenlooper about the
Lockdown initiative Monday, July 23, at the Colorado Department of Public Safety offices,
where several agencies gathered to show off their efforts to keep Colorado safe.
Governor Hickenlooper was intrigued by the Lockdown initiative, which helps inform
Coloradans about the issue of auto theft. He was also interested to learn about the progress
law enforcement has made in reducing auto theft in Colorado. He complimented the efforts
of CAAT and CATPA, along with our partners ATICC and auto theft task forces.
CAAT provided the Governor with the same Lockdown educational materials you are using
to inform citizens in your community of CAAT's efforts. The Governor recognizes this
community wide effort to crack down on auto theft and his interest and support is a
testament to your dedication and hard work.
We had a great turnout from Denver-area media for our launch event. The press conference
was covered by CBS 4 with live shots during the noon news, Fox 31 and Channel 7.
Additionally, Carole Walker was interviewed by 850 KOA and the Lincoln Financial group of
radio stations (KYGO, et al.).
Special thanks to Kate Porras and the Western Colorado Auto Theft Task Force (WCATT)
for sharing the campaign press materials with local media in Grand Junction. As a result, the
campaign also received attention from KJCT8 in Grand Junction.
You will receive the summer campaign press kit, along with the rest of your marketing
materials, in the coming days. It is crucial to share the press kit with your local media in
order to garner statewide earned media coverage. If you need help pitching your local media
or if you need additional press materials, please contact Jane McGillem.
Engaging with the Public by Playing Plinko
The Plinko boards were designed as a fun way for task forces to be able to engage with
members of their communities at events. Invite people passing by your booth to try their
luck at Plinko for a chance to win prizes, and encourage them to join the CAAT Facebook
community.
How to Play Lockdown Plinko:
Lay a Plinko puck flat against the top of the Plinko board.
Take aim at the outcome/prize you want to win by lining up the chip where it can
bounce down the board until it lands in your preferred slot.
Release the puck and watch it bounce and travel through the maze until it reaches
one of the bottom slots.
The slot you land in will tell you the outcome of your hypothetical auto theft situation. All contestants should receive a Lockdown decal card, which will direct Coloradans to
“Like” CAAT on Facebook, where they will be entered for a chance to win a grand
prize. Plinko winners should receive either a Lockdown keychain or sunglasses,
depending on which slot the puck lands.
Colorado Grant Management System (COGMS)
To those that have received CATPA Grants, Grant Agreements were mailed out to all grant
recipients on July 1. If you have received a CATPA 2012-13 grant award, you may begin
