Welcome to the inaugural Broken Hill Fringe! Our
thanks go to all our sponsors but in particular our
major sponsors Regional Development Australia,
2BH and Hill FM, Broken Hill Community Foundation,
NSW Government, Brand Creative and Broken Hill
Tourist Park. We would also to thank John Williams,
Member for Murray Darling for championing our cause
with the NSW Government.Over the next few years
we believe we can build something that will bring
significant economic and social benefits to Broken
Hill. We have done our best to program an event to
cater for everyone in our community and to ensure
the Fringe is accessible to all, we have included many
free events including at On the Fringe our pop up bar
and entertainment venue. This event would not have
been possible without the work of many including the
PVCBA Committee our Project Officer and volunteers,
but most importantly, the work of our artists. Thank
you one and all and see you at the Fringe!
Philip O’Keefe, Chair
Patton Village Community & Business Association
As the first regional hub of the Sydney Fringe

Association to support this development. On behalf
of the committee and staff of RDA Far West I would
like to congratulate the Patton Village Community &

Sat 12 Oct - Sun 24 Nov // The Mars Project // Broken Hill Regional
Art Gallery // An Adam Norton Exhibition. As a recipient of a 2012
Artist in Residence grant Norton was able to embark on yet another
exploration of the influence of science and technology cultures
amongst the extreme landscapes of outback Broken Hill during
his residencies. Should humans ever reach Mars and mineral rich
deposits are discovered, the planet could well become a new ‘High
Frontier’, a concept reflecting Broken Hill’s early founding years
as a frontier town, then isolated from much of the world. Norton’s
VISUAL ARTS
work creates an interesting dialogue on current human progress
and the ever present and often burning desire to find new lands and
resources. The new works produced from the Residency will form
this exhibition. Opening Hours – Mon-Sun 10am-5pm. Gold Coin

FILM
Fri 18 Oct // Indecent Xposure // Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery
A screening of the feature documentary Indecent Xposure that will
take its audience on a precipitous and unusual journey through the
eccentric, dramatic and surprising life of one of the world’s most
mysterious and reclusive outsider artists, Christina Conrad. This
unusual and compelling story of the artist – describes her rise
and fall and her lifelong struggle with the Art World’s conventional
wisdom, phony respectability and thinly disguised prejudices. The
legend it reveals is conveyed through a surprising and confronting
mix of tragic/comic monologues, bizarre improvisations and an
assortment of unusual and vivid characters offering an unforgettable
account of a personal yet universal odyssey of self-discovery. Rated

of Broken Hill and when that was raided and shut down by police in
1984, the city’s Council successfully applied for a permit to run the
game every day of the year. In handing down its decision, the NSW
Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing acknowledged that Two-up
was an established part of the cultural heritage of this mining city”.
