Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. ST. Smart Sugar Parents in Hounslow are being encouraged to get behind the Sugar Smart campaign and take control of their children’s sugar intake. Obesity is a problem in Hounslow, and recent data revealed around 20.9% of four to five-year-olds are overweight in the borough, with the figure increasing to 37.7% in children aged 10 to 11. A high sugar intake can cause fat to build up inside the body and lead to serious health problems in adult life such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers. The Change4Life campaign was launched by Public Health England (PHE) on Monday (January 4) along with a free new Sugar Smart app which works by scanning the barcode of a product to reveal the total amount of sugar in cubes or grammes, allowing parents to monitor how much sugar there is in everyday food and drink. Councillor Ed Mayne, cabinet member for public health and leisure said: “The latest child obesity figures for the borough highlight the importance for families to cut back on sugar in the diet. “Sugar is lurking in everyday food and drink, taking children well over the maximum recommended amount. “We’re encouraging parents across Hounslow to download the new Sugar Smart app and take control of the amount of sugar their family consumes, to protect them from the health risks of having too much sugar.” The campaign was rolled out after a survey with Netmums users found nearly half (47%) of mums surveyed thought their family has too much sugar in their diets and two-thirds of mums (67%) are worried about the amount of sugar their children consume. Guidelines state that no more than 10% of a person’s daily calorie intake should be made up of sugar, but at present, children aged four to 10 are consuming up to 50% more than this. Recommended daily maximum added sugar intake Ґ 19g or five sugar cubes for four to six-year-olds Ґ 24g or six sugar cubes for seven to 10-year-olds Ґ 30g or seven sugar cubes for 11-year-olds and older To assist in tackling the problem, Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust’s healthy weight team and Fusion Sports have partnered up to deliver two activity and information days at Hanworth Leisure Centre on Tuesday (January 12) and Thursday (January 14) between 3.30pm and 5pm. Kiran Sharma, children’s healthy weight advisor for the Hounslow healthy weight team, said: “We encourage local families to come along to these events to find out more about obesity, how to achieve a healthy weight and make good lifestyle choices.” Singer and TV presenter Jamelia stars in a series of short Sugar Smart films warning parents about health harms associated with too much sugar intake including obesity and tooth decay. Change4Life reveals the sugar content of: Ґ a 43g chocolate bar contains six cubes of sugar Ґ a 200ml juice drink contains over five cubes Ґ a can of cola contains nine sugar cubes Recommended simple sugar swaps Ґ The breakfast swap: sugary cereal for plain/wholewheat cereal Ґ The drink swap: from sugary drinks to sugar-free or no-added-sugar drinks Ґ The after school swap: for example from muffin to fruited teacake The pudding swap: for example from ice cream to low-fat lower-sugar yoghurt Search Google Play or the Apple App store for ‘Change4Life’ to download the Smart Sugar App. M JANUARY/FEBRUARY T W T F S S 11 GroupPiano (pm) Spanish& Dodgeball Clubsstart 12 Y4&5Clarinetsstart GroupGuitar(pm) AthleteLondonKS1&KS2 Footballstart/SMDADance Clubstart 13 Y4SwimmingLessons start GroupViolinlessonsstart (pm) ProfessorBubbleworks ScienceClubstarts/ ItalianClub/ CodeClubstarts 7.30pmPTAAGMSchool Hall 14 9amY3&2FMassin Church GroupGuitarlessons (pm) AthleteLondonOlympic SportsClubstarts 3.30pmY6SportsHall Athletics,Gumley (selectedchildren) 15 CLOSINGDATE FORRECEPTION 2016 APPLICATIONS 16 17 18 GroupPiano (pm) Extended SpanishClub 3.15-4.45pm/ Dodgeball Club 19 Y4&5Clarinets(am) GroupGuitar(pm) AthleteLondonKS1&KS2 Football/SMDADanceClub 20 Y4Swimming GroupViolinlessons(pm) 2-5pmY6GirlsFootball Tourn.FethamCC (selectedchildren) ProfessorBubbleworks ScienceClub/ ItalianClub/CodeClub 21 Y6&Y1MassinChurch GroupGuitarlessons (pm) AthleteLondonOlympic SportsClub 22 6-7.30pmPTA SchoolDisco 23 24 25 GroupPiano (pm) Extended SpanishClub 3.15-4.45pm/ Dodgeball Club 26 Y4&5Clarinets(am) GroupGuitar(pm) AthleteLondonKS1&KS2 Football/SMDADanceClub 27 28 Y4Swimming Y5&RecMassinChurch GroupViolinlessons(pm) GroupGuitarlessons (pm) 2-5pmY6BoysFootball Tourn.(selectedchildren) AthleteLondonOlympic SportsClub ProfessorBubbleworks ScienceClub/ ItalianClub/CodeClub 29 30 31 1 Catholic Children’s Society Lenten Assembly GroupPiano (pm) Extended SpanishClub 3.15-4.45pm/ Dodgeball Club 2 Y4&5Clarinets(am) GroupGuitar(pm) AthleteLondonKS1&KS2 Football/SMDADanceClub 3 Y4Swimming GroupViolinlessons(pm) 2.30pmKS2Penitential Service(childrenonly) ProfessorBubbleworks ScienceClub/ ItalianClub/CodeClub 4 GroupGuitarlessons (pm) AthleteLondonOlympic SportsClub 5 Y2VisittoScience Museum 6 7 8 GroupPiano (pm) Extended SpanishClub 3.15-4.45pm/ Dodgeball Club 9 Y2SportsDay–Brentford Y4&5Clarinets(am) GroupGuitar(pm) AthleteLondonKS1&KS2 Football/SMDADanceClub 3.30-5.30pmParents’Evening 10 Y1-Y6AshWednesday Mass-Church Y4Swimming GroupViolinlessons(pm) ProfessorBubbleworks ScienceClub/ ItalianClub/CodeClub 11 Y4&2LMassinChurch/ Y4ThamesExplorer TrustRiverWalk/ Y6RugbyFinals(pm)/ GroupGuitarlessons (pm) PTAInfantCakeSale/ AthleteLondonOlympic SportsClub/4.307.30pmParentsEvening 12 13 14 Autumn Term begins Tuesday 1st September 2015 Wednesday 2nd September 2015 Return to school Thursday 3rd September Half Term Week school closed Monday 26th – Friday 30th October 2015 INSET DAY (School closed) Return to school Monday 2nd November 2015 Christmas Holiday School closes at 2 p.m. on Friday 18th December 2015 Spring Term begins Monday 4th January 2016 Half Term Week school closed Monday 15th – Friday 19th February 2016 Return to school Monday 22nd February 2016 Spring Term Holidays School closes at 2 p.m. on Thursday 24th March 2016 Summer Term begins Monday 11th April 2016 National Bank Holiday school closed Monday 2nd May 2016 National Bank Holiday school closed Monday 30th May 2016 Half Term week school closed Tuesday 31st May – Friday 3rd June 2016 Return to school Monday 6th June 2016 End of school year School closes at 2 pm on Monday 18th July 2016 INSET DAY INSET DAY Tuesday 3rd November 2015 PLEASE KEEP SAFE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE Mary’s Isleworth.
