Detailed description
This pristine RX-7 Spirit R Type A (No 1384) final generation model took us around 3 months of
daily searching to find, after the most recent example of a rare model of final production RX-7 (R
Bathurst R) attracted much interest. The RX-7 Spirit R Type A was a last farewell production
model built alongside the lesser R Bathurst R models. Easily the most collectible of all the RX-7s
were these last 1,504 run-out specials. Dubbed the "Spirit R", they combined all the "extra"
features Mazda had used on previous limited-run specials with new exclusive features like crossdrilled brake rotors. Mazda's press release said "The Type-A Spirit R model is the ultimate RX-7,
boasting the most outstanding driving performance in its history." There were three models of
"Spirit R": the "Type A", "Type B", and "Type C". The "Type A" is a two-seater with a 5-speed
manual transmission. It featured lightweight red trim Recaro Kevlar bucket front seats as seen in
the earlier RZ models. The "Type B" had a 2+2 seat configuration and also sports a five-speed
manual transmission. The "Type C" was also a 2+2, but has a four-speed automatic transmission.
Of the 1504 Spirit R's made, over 1000 were Type A's. An exclusive Spirit R paint coluor (as seen
on this example) Titanium Grey, adorned over 700 of the 1500 cars sold. It's perhaps interesting to
note that Euro & US legislation banned pop-up headlights on production cars from 1999 and only
Mazda continued to make the RX-7 (The MX-5 changed in 1999 in response) up till 2002, since
this wasn't a model sold anywhere but Japan (U.S. & E.U. stopped selling the 3rd generation RX-7
in 1995). So the RX-7 was the last production car to be built with pop-up headlights.Watch here a
test drive in the U.S. of the only Spirit R (A replica in this case, as it was built from a pre 1995
original shell, complete with U.S. model sunroof, which the Spirit R was never fitted with, nor were
any of the 1,504 Spirit R's ever made in LHD). With most RX-7 examples available even in Japan
nowadays being tired and often in need of major expense to put completely right, we hadn't
wanted to compromise & continued to search until we found this amazing original Spirit R Type A.
Comparing closely with other RX-7's you may see on offer elsewhere, you can see why this car
offers much better value for money than typically abused and poorly cared for RX-7's and not least

it's the most sought after and admired spec of all. We know of only 3 others in the UK and the
above specially hand-built LHD example belonging to Mazda N. America.This example is
essentially in concours condition and will no doubt be the very best in Europe when imported. We
currently only supply a handful of RX-7's of all models per year, but as we cannot find cars of the
caliber we would want to own ourselves we simply don't compromise, hence why we stock so few.
With over 15 years of experience in sourcing these and having 3 highly tuned examples of our
own, we are not only enthusiasts for these but know RX-7's very well, so we can be confident of
the quality we offer. With current stock we also continue looking for other good pre 1999 model to
re-create as 1999+ styled examples, but it is likely to take a while and some of our RX-7's are may
be sold before being advertised, such is demand for the best examples and the difficulty in finding
them.
An FD3S RX-7 as standard has excellent junior supercar performance & being a lightweight car
doesn't require major tuning. Better for road use is to have an easy to drive non-tempermental
machine that can give 10's of thousands of miles more and maximum enjoyment. The RX-7 was
one of the fastest stopping cars in the world when introduced and today it's brakes still remain
excellent, aided by ABS of course. In this example it's 4-channel compared to earlier 3 channel
systems. Fine chassis balance is given by placement of the main engine components aft of the
front cross member, which resulted in near perfect 50/50 weight distribution and by default made
these cars uniquely designed mid-engine cars. Tyre contact with road surfaces remains much
more linear than most road cars due to double wishbone alloy suspension arms. There are few
production cars with such quality of design and timeless body design that still looks so fresh today,
as when it came out in Japan in 1992. Mazda got this car so right. Perfect, we'd say. It'll be a hard
act to follow when the rumoured replacement is released and unlikely it'll be twin turbo'd due to
modern emissions regulations (Which is why the RX-8 wasn't every turbocharged either).
Original specification This example, being a Spirit R Type A 2002 final production model includes
silver faced instrumentation and different gauge design to earlier models. Note a boost gauge is
also integrated into this later design. Seat material is more luxurious than previous RZ models,
whilst still being lightweight. Note the material (carbon Kevlar) of the bucket seats, complete with
seat belt catches and factory fitted adjustable seat rails. There is a Nardi leather trimmed sports
steering wheel with red stitch with SRS airbag & passenger SRS airbag too. The Spirit R model's
power was increased slightly over lesser models, offering 280 bhp as standard. Also included
other nice touches such as lightweight alloy jack and forged alloy (Enkei) space saver spare
wheel. Spec. also includes: dual oil coolers, front & rear strut braces, PAS, P/W, AC, fitted (Spirit
R) mats, factory fitted privacy glass at the rear, etc. The Type A essentially included RZ original
specification which meant a lower final drive for improved acceleration, with an overdriver taller 5th

to compensate for the other 4 closer spaced ratios, so that at motorway speeds it would remain
civilized. The Type A also included C-Ring Bilstein (Height adjustable) suspension and red
calipers with larger brake rotors at each corner - again same as prior RZ specification. Note also
the special Spirit R wheels, instruments and matt black console covering & alloy passenger foot
brace all of which are unique to the Spirit R, along with the emblem on the front wings. In the
engine bay there's a plaque denoting the manufacture number of 1500 cars (In fact 1,504 were
built in total incl. Tokyo Motor Show & Press cars).
Upgrades: Although standard in engine mechanical & turbo boost specification, the previous
owner selected some well chosen dealer fit options. There are a set of very sought after original
Mazda polyeurethane foam side skirts (Being discontinued and being completely resistant to stone
chips unlike FRP - these can fetch £500 used in Japan!). These side skirts protect the sides
perfectly against stone chips too. A Mazdaspeed instrument pod has been fitted. This houses 3
Defi Link II gauges, to offer (user settable) audiable warnings should any of the readings begin to
go over safe limits. The pod also houses the original centre speaker. Very neat and unusual. Also
fitted is a Mazdaspeed carbon look shift knob and original option red bordered Spirit R floor mats.
There's also a very good quality 200W Carrozzeria Japanese domestic multi input player which is
ipod & smart phone compatible. It also plays DVD's & music videos. Very smart.
Further Upgrades: Although nothing further is needed for this car, we're specialists in the supply

Test Drive & Condition: This is a one owner car from new and has been regularly serviced by
Mazda (With service history) and well maintained. With a recent oil change this car runs very
sweetly. We test drove this car briefly and found it to drive perfectly. With an engine that pulls
strongly from instant boost, brakes that have virtually no wear & excellent suspension control, we
found nothing that needs doing. The paintwork in as shown in stunning unmarked condition. We
noted there's no pin dents at all on the body sides. There's just a small touched up chip on the
front lip spoiler. It's incredible to see such condition on a car of this age, really but another
indication of the care that has been lavished on it. Also note there are no stone chips and only one
small scratch about an inch long on one wheel (Which will be professionally touched in). All
indicators show this car wasn't driven hard. There's also no corrosion at all to any of the wheels
nor the underside, a sign this car's never been driven in salt or grit conditions. Inside, we could
see this car has never been smoked in, ever. Seats are in excellent condition and are protected
with specially fitted leather protectors, matching original finish. The boot also looks to have no
marks and the spare + tools have never been used. We also noted the car comes with all original
booklets and the spare keys have never been used.From the care it's had & the incredible
condition, we know this car belonged to a mature owner since new who liked to have a nice

performance car but hardly used it. It's evident this car was always well cared for and not driven
hard and also been garaged since new. It's in concours condition throughout.
RX-7's in as beautiful & low mileage modified condition as this combined at an affordable price are
extremely hard to find nowadays, yet alone rare models like this Spirit R Type A. This example's
clearly been hardly used. The engine is in fine health with good oil pressure & engine health. It's
producing an excellent spread of power - perfectly healthy and with plenty of life to give with
mileage this low. For further peace of mind when supplied to UK, a 12 month warranty will be
supplied with this car also covering rotor tips and water seals.

How the Newera System Works
(1). Starting with your inquiry, we provide a quote or e-mail communication, so that
we are clear on just what you are after. We ask for detailed information from you, so
we can provide an accurate quotation from the beginning. If you are inquiring about a
car from stock, steps (2) and (4) are not required.
(2). When sourcing to order, our quotation is based on your requirements. As long as
your budget is sufficient for the car youre after & the car is likely to be available, we
will be prepared to find the car you order, or better. Remember: even if you budget
too much, it doesnt matter. We operate a system of supplying the best car we can
find, plus a set fee of 900. If we can buy your car for a low price, then you make the
corresponding saving.
(3). When you are ready to proceed, we ask for a deposit (& completed order form, if
applicable). The deposit is usually 1,000. If you want a car worth over 10K OTR,
then the deposit is 1,500. The deposit is fully refundable without question, should
you for any reason need to cancel before a car is bought on your behalf. If you are
reserving a car from stock the deposit is refundable less costs and time incurred
provided you cancel 4 working days before shipment from Japan.
(4). Miguel, our buyer keeps you informed via e-mail periodically whilst searching
for your car. Sometimes it can take weeks, even months to find the right car. In
addition to Miguel attending the major Tokyo auctions daily, we have buyers
searching daily throughout Japan for the car you want. No news simply means we
havent found it yet. We dont buy the first car which comes along. It must meet or
exceed your requirements whilst not costing more than the OTR price we agreed,
though it frequently costs less.
(5). As soon as available, we will e-mail you up to 30 detailed photographs, showing
all aspects of your car. We also include a detailed description. Of course, total OTR
price is known at this stage, so we let you know. Cars are insured from the time
theyre bought, to the time they are completed & collected by you in UK.
(6). Usually, boats are available every 2-3 weeks, from Japan to UK (Southampton).
We arrange for your car to be shipped on the first vessel available. Around the time
the car is shipped, we ask for the second instalment. Typically this is approximately

60% of the cars OTR total cost. Note that the car we supply to you is fully insured at
all times prior to you collecting it.
(7) We arrange booking of the SVA test in advance - shortly after the car departs, so
that the car can be tested as soon as possible upon arrival to UK. We also inform our
UK agent of your full contact details and information on everything which needs doing,
to make sure the car wil be presented in beautiful condition.
(8). Shipping takes 5 weeks. Around 2 weeks before arrival, we ask you for the final
instalment, to cover Import duties, VAT, shipping, UK conversions, testing,
registraton etc.
(9). Before the car arrives, we arrange customs clearance, etc. so the car neednt
spend un-necessary time waiting at the docks upon arrival. It usually takes 3-4 days
for cars to be unloaded and cleared by UK customs.
(10). The car is sent from Southampton to our UK agents premises in Canterbury
aboard a car transporter. Upon arrival there, it is SVA converted, derestricted, SVA
tested & MOTd (If applicable).
All minor cosmetic work required (e.g. bumper scratches) is carried out. The car is
fully valetted just before you collect it.
(11). The car comes with 6 months road tax and is fully registered in your name as
the first UK keeper. If you have a suitable private number plate youd like to go on the
car, we can also arrange this, provided you have a DVLA retention certificate.
