ATC Newsletter– April 2013
ATC Board and Tennis Instructors constantly strive to make ATC the best Tennis Club possible.
Your volunteerism and feedback is crucial to achieve this “GOAL”. Opinions and comments may
be addressed on our website– under your logon name (right hand corner)- submit an idea ( or

From the Court Side –It’s About Time
Satellite time synchronized linked clocks are employed both in the clubhouse and on the courts. Please do
not enter the court playing area until your booked time has been reached in the clubhouse. The playing
courts must be relinquished at the expiration of your court booking time .
Line Calls
Tennis is the sport of Ladies & Gentlemen and when making line calls each
player is responsible for making line calls on his/her side of the net. When
doubt exists, the ball is “IN”- An interesting note is that Vic Braden– the tennis
guru-, in his book on sport psychology says that the worst perspective on a
ball being “In or Out” is by the player trying to hit the ball– thus many line call
errors are made. Hm...mm when will all club line calls be electronic ?????

OTA Tennis Tournament Cancellation
Electrical transformer replacement and other electrical work being conducted at ATC
during the week of June 21 has forced the ATC Board to cancel proceeding with OTA
discussions regarding a level 5.0 Men’s tournament that would have been held the
weekend of June 21,2013 at ATC.
Craig’s Coach’s Corner
Well here we are moving outdoors again and with it a load of organizing ahead. Not only do we have
to get the bubble down and the courts set up which in itself is a daunting task but there’s registering new members, structuring of leagues and set up for court bookings among many other things.
As for myself organizing the Junior Program takes up most of my time and it isn’t getting any easier. Trying to
accommodate kids increasingly busy schedules and the variety of ways needed to communicate questions and
answers top the list of issues to deal with. At Aldershot, we arrange group lessons with a low ratio of students
at a very affordable cost for the parents.
The end result of all this work is well worth the effort. With the juniors, our goal is to turn them on to a sport for
life by developing the skills necessary to play the game in a fun and cooperative atmosphere. Over the years I’m
proud to say we have done exactly this with hundreds if not thousands. May I add it would not have been possible without the outstanding assistance of Paula and Peter.
So here I stand before a well organized group of six, introductions have been made and we’re ready to start the
lessons. It’s at this point one of them shouts out those dreaded words
“Hey, it’s starting to rain!”
Welcome to the outdoor season!
Too bad these kids aren’t old enough to go for a beer
Cheers
Craig

Same Day Court Booking Rules – Confusion clarified
If you have your maximum number of courts booked (3), Gigasports will allow a same day court
booking to be made. Gigasports will then allow four courts to be booked. However, if you have less
than your maximum number of courts booked, Gigasports will add the same day court booking to
your allowable total. Court bookings expire at 11PM the game day and begin at 7AM for future bookings-ie future is anytime after 7AM—same day booking is deleted from the system at 11PM.
