Cigarettes are litter.
No ifs, ands or butts.
If you think that one cigarette butt doesn’t make a difference, think again. Because as you
walk through Slidell, you’re sure to spot one area after another that cigarette smokers have
decided to make their personal ashtrays. And that’s unfortunate. Because the problem keeps
getting bigger and uglier and it’s time for it to stop.
So cigarette smokers, take note. Now everytime you flick your cigarette, you could face up to
$500 in fines, up to 24 hours of community service, and up to
six months in jail. It’s a steep price to pay for littering. And it’s
now being enforced.
So if you smoke, remember this: cigarette butts are litter.
Think before you flick. Dispose of your cigarette butts properly.
