Hi Everyone
President’s Message
Our club officers have decided that because of the possibility of personal liability of
the club, its members, and in case of an accident at the 2011 Nationals that it is time
the club is incorporated. Therefore , Jeanie Marsden is in the process of incorporating
NORCAL. The contract with the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, Reno NV, was sent
to the National club officers for their review and comment. Pat Yancey, Ed Konsmo
and Gloria Varley have provided me with comments which I am negotiating with
the GSR. The GSR contract can be signed as soon as OCA National comments are
incorporated, final review by OCA officers, NORCAL incorporation, and NORCAL
purchases a $5,000,000 liability insurance to add to OCA $1,000,000 liability for GSR
requirement to provide $6,000,000 liability insurance for our 2011 National event. We
are planning a SWAP Meet and Drag Race at the 2011 Nationals, contact Gerald Nickles for information at “ [email protected] “. If anyone wants more information
on our 2011 National Event , please contact me.
Your President, Dan Haggerty
Editor’s Note
This issue has lots of forms to fill out and mail in for up coming shows. Most important form is for the Zone Show on May 15-16 (if you haven’t already). The day
after the Zone Show there is the Shriners Hospitals Concourse d’Elegance in Rancho
Cordoba. I know this is tight but the Marque does include Oldsmobile. Very hot is our
annual show held at Micke Grove in Lodi. Please note; this show is in JUNE on the
14th! We have always had it later in the summer but not this time! OCA Nationals are
July in Seven Springs Resort, PA. That form is online at OCA and in their newsletter. And lastly in this issue is a form from the Cadillac club inviting us to join them in
Cupertino at Portal Park July 26. Wow could we keep busy or what?
Also notice in our “Other Events” there is a bunch of cars stuff to there too!
As we noted in the last Oldsletter there is no longer a Vallejo Swap Meet for us to
hold. Dave Kennedy has contacted member Roger Cowan and in October in Sacramento we will have a cars and parts event in the form of an auction. Stay tuned for
details in a later issue. Also Jeff Stanish is hosting a tour of a military tank museum in
October too. See page 8
As many of you know I have a soft spot for 1950 Oldsmobiles, especially those 88s.
Well since March 9th we have a new baby 88 Club Sedan that Linda named Verde.
People have nick named these cars fastbacks, torpedo backs and slant backs. So here
is a lesson in body styles. Oldsmobile officially named theirs a Club Sedan and Town
Sedan, if it’s a 4 door, Cadillac and Buick called theirs Sedanettes, Pontiac called
theirs Streamliner and at Chevrolet it was a Fleetline. Olds stopped production after
1950 and Chevrolet after 1952.
We are getting to know 59 year old Verde so lots of looking in and under before we
venture out too far. See page 11 at Blackhawk.

Membership Report, April 15, 2009
Membership has declined 15% since last year, due to the economy and 5 members
passing away. We have 177 members and 15 of those have not paid their OCA dues,
making us 89% compliant with OCA. I was hoping to get 100% compliant for the
2011 National show. Please check your OCA membership and make sure you pay this.
Our members are aging just like our cars, but we still need them to participate in our
car shows and send in interesting articles about how they got their cars and what they
are working on now. We have had no new members since February. I plan on being
at the Zone Show in Morro Bay and will sell T-shirts and take applications for new
memberships and sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle to be held after the banquet dinner and
trophies are given out.
Respectfully submitted, Jeanie Marsden
Treasurer Report, April 15, 2009
Our Treasury is solvent. We are hoping to generate more income by doing a raffle
at our car shows. We would recommend that members bring an item for the raffle,
whether it is from their garage, or from a business that donated a product. Tickets will
be sold 1 for a dollar, 6 for $5.00 or an arm length for $10.00. All raffles will be held
after the trophies are handed out.
Respectfully submitted, Jeanie Marsden

5
Minutes from March 14, 2009 Meeting
The regular meeting was held on March 14, 2009, at the home of President Dan Haggerty.
There were 14 members present.
The Kennedys advised that their e-mail address was incorrect in the roster which was
why they had not received any notice of the funeral services for Ken Van Gundy, Jr. It will be
corrected in the next roster. Should be [email protected]
Larry reported that the newsletter is okay, and the cost of having it printed is much
less due to changing the print shop.
He also said that the outing to Blackhawk Museum on April 18 will begin with
brunch/lunch at Bridges Golf Club at 11 A.M. There is room for 20 people, so please sign up
early for this. For those who cannot be accommodated here, we have made arrangements to
meet at the Chinese restaurant across the street from the Blackhawk Museum. The docent will
meet us in the Museum at 2 P.M. If there are more than 12 of us, the entrance fee will be lower.
Treasurer Jeanie Marsden report that we have a substantial balance in our account.
Our membership has dropped to about 175 paid members. She also reported that gifts for the
raffle cannot be purchased by the club, must be donated in order to keep our non-profit status. Ken Van Gundy reported that the Zone Show is set for Morro Bay on May 15-16.
SoCal is handling the reservations for Morro Bay. Jeanie will do a 50/50 raffle at the Zone
Show.
Jeff Stanish said there is no notice on the flyer for the Zone Show that any one who
wants to participate and have a car judged must be a member of OCA. This was an oversight,
and a notice will be put on e-mail.
He also said that non-members must belong to OCA in order to participate at any
event we hold. Ken and Larry will make contacts to bring the newsletters, fliers, and web site
to include this requirement.
Ken is also receiving applications for the Micke Grove Show in June. Larry will call
Ken regarding headcount for BBQ/pot luck picnic for us at the show.
Pat Kennedy made a motion that an auction or a raffle be held at the show to make
more money for the club. It was seconded and the discussion included a list of rules to host
the event including funds, etc. Jeanie will write it up and send it to Larry for publication and
discussion by our members.
Dave said he went to an auction, which was open to the public, run by a retired
auctioneer, Roger Cowan. He invited Dave to bring stuff (car, misc.) to his house and he will
auction off any items. He will prepare food and drinks for the group for $40. He is also willing
to have a swap meet at his home, with our members bringing the items as was done at Solano
Fairgrounds. Someone mentioned that there is a swap meet on July 11 and 12, from 10 to 5
PM, on Berryessa road in San Jose. This will be advertised in our next newsletter.
Dave said he ran into Gary Cope and spoke to him about another visit to Pack Rat
Flats. He said he’d like that, but he is doing some remodeling of a building and would like to
set it up for next year when he would be finished. Dave will set it up and contact Larry, and try
for an October date. Jeff said he’s thinking about a outing to Portola Valley - lots of tanks with
6
Cadillac motors. There is a $20 donation per person, and these are mostly WW II tanks. Jeff
can contact them and is willing to set up a date. It runs from 10 AM to 1 PM for the tour. We
could go to Alpine Inn for lunch.
Dave said that Bob Wise donated some historical information to our club and it will
go to Larry for keeping in the library.
Dan said that the contract for the 2011 Meet, with corrections, will come to him from
Ms. Ashton (at the Grand Sierra Hotel), then from him to the Varleys, then to Yancy for review. If all agree on it, then the club will be named as host for 2011. Dan said there was a stiff
cancellation clause in the contract, but he has discussed this with Ms. Ashton and the terms are
being revised. Price of rooms is coming down. More specific details will be released when we
have been appointed to be hosting the meet. Dan will give a presentation regarding this at the
next national meet in July in Pennsylvania.
Larry passed around some sample forms for registration for the national meet for everyone to look at. He also ad some additional logo options for the 2011 meet for us to review.
Some suggestions were made and he will provide additional ideas at next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 3:25 P.M. The members thanked Dan and Elaine for the
delicious luncheon which we all enjoyed.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Kauffman
Raffle Ticket Rules and News by Jeanie Marsden
Step 1:
All Raffle prizes must be donated. It is recommended to advertise this in the newsletter, so that
members can think about what to bring for prizes. We all have sources to get prizes or have
something in our garages that would make a good Oldsmobile prize!
Step 2:
Raffle Tickets will cost $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 or $10.00 for an arm length.
Step 3:
Tickets will be sold during the entire car show and during the luncheon or dinner. The raffle
will be held after the trophies are handed out
What’s Happening at the Towe Auto Museum?
As of today, they’re now called;
See page 10 for explanation.
The Towe ticket pass I sent out to members are still good to use but remember these are only
good for one entry. I do have more on hand if needed. Call or e-mail me and I will send you
more. Jeanie Marsden

Towe Museum Changes its Name
For over 20 years, the Towe Ford/Towe Auto Museum has been educating and entertaining
audiences with beautiful and interesting automobiles.
A significant part of the history of the Museum was the arrival of over 100 Fords from the
collection of Edward Towe.
Times change, however, and the Museum no longer houses the Towe Collection. We now
exhibit a much broader collection of vehicles, telling the history of the automobile from the
late 1800s through electric and hydrogen vehicles of the future.
After many years of patient (or sometimes not-so-patient) deliberation, the Board of Directors
has determined that, as of today, the Museum’s new name will be the California Automobile Museum. Our new name represents the culmination of many years of hard work by
our board, staff and volunteers.
Our mission, however, remains the same - to educate and entertain while preserving and
promoting the automobile and its influence on our lives. We hope you will celebrate with us as
we begin our next 20+ years of service with a new name AND a renewed vision for our community!

Blackhawk Tour
We had 13 members meet at
the Bridges Golf Restaurant
in San Ramone Saturday
morning at 11 for brunch.
The food was delicious and
the service excellent. Five
Oldsmobiles showed up and
the four oldest parked right
up front.
After brunch we caravaned
over to the Blackhawk Auto
Museum and at 2 pm had a
docent take us around and

multi-million dollar cars but he said it was significant because it was the first fully automatic transmission offered by anyone. He mentioned they had a 1904 Curved Dash
Oldsmobile but it was out on loan so he spent time with now their earliest car, a 1906
Cadillac.
Our docent Jon Mouller mentioned that many of the pre-world war II cars on display
were Art Deco styling and very very expensive. Some now worth as much as 7 million
dollars each today. Many of these were built during the Great Depression and sold to
movie stars and other wealthy folks as the unemployment and soup lines grew longer
in many parts of our country and the world. Could we be in for a repeat of history?

Alfonso Mario Casatico July 10, 1941 ~ Feb. 4, 2009 Resident of Danville Al Casatico was the
dearly loved father of Allen Casatico and his wife Tammy, Damon Casatico and his wife Dawn,
and Nicole Gilmore and her husband Jonathan. He is the cherished grandfather of Michael and
Matthew Casatico, Isabella and Sophia Casatico, and Jake and Calli Gilmore. He was the loving, little brother of Geraldine Grosso and brother-in-law Sylvano, proud uncle of Gioia Vusich
and husband Joe, and the genuine Best Friend of many. Al was a best friend to many because
he was a big-hearted, kind hearted and soft hearted soul. He was generous, unpretentious and
a contagiously likable man. “He made the world a better place for a lot--a lot of people,” Best
Friend, Mary McAfee. “I’ll never forget you Grandpa,” Calli. He was born July 10, 1941 in
Herkimer, New York. He moved to Oakland, California in 1951. He graduated from Oakland
High School. He was married to Judith Thurlkill from 1964-1976. He moved around the Bay
Area, settling in Danville, California. He was an integral man in the used car business for more
than 35 years. He is an unashamed toy collector, street-rodder, Danville Duke and vintage car
enthusiast. He was a humble Believer, well acquainted with the mercy of God. Al was a Valiant
Victor in a long fight with cancer! He died of a heart attack at the San Ramon Valley Regional
Medical Center after breakfast with treasured friends. We invited the hot-rod community to
drive their rods to the memorial. The candy colors and beefy engines was a tribute to the joy
and fullness he brought to us all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made
to: The Scleroderma Research Foundation, 220 Montgomery Street, Suite 1411, San Francisco,
CA 94104.
