VISÍTENOS WORKSHOPS
Taller’s exhibition cycles are constructed around thematic
styles or techniques. Past cycles have focused on magical
realism, graphic arts, and placemaking in the Latino
community.
Guided mural and neighborhood tours of Philadelphia’s
historic Latino commercial district, El Centro de Oro (the
Golden Center), are available.
Taller Puertorriqueño translates to Puerto Rican
Workshop. As such, Taller offers workshops for children
and young adults.
Philadelphia’s 11-county metro area has a Latino
population of over 468,000. 90% are of Puerto Rican,
Mexican and Dominican descent, all of which are
represented in North Philadelphia through vibrant and lively
murals.*
The workshops and lectures are designed to promote
cultural understanding and appreciation of Puerto Rican
and Latino culture for individuals, families, schools, and
teachers.
Escorted tours of the current exhibition(s) are available with
an introduction to Taller Puertorriqueño’s history. Depending
on the exhibiting artist(s)’s availability, special arrangements
can be made for personalized presentations.
Magical Realism exhibition cycle
Guided tour of the exhibition Intersections: The Art of Rafael Trelles.
Latinoamérica
Una Lengua, Múltiples Culturas.
José Alí Paz and Henry Bermúdez
“Una Lengua, Múltiples
Culturas” is Spanish for One
Language, Multiple Cultures.
This mural demonstrates
how we, as Latin Americans,
share a common language
(Spanish), along with a rich
and diverse history. The
mural depicts notable
figures in Latin-American art
such as Pablo Neruda and
the literature Nobel Prize
winner and poet, Gabriela
Mistral.
Claiming Places exhibition cycle
Mexican muralist, César Viveros Herrera, talking about his exhibition,
No Me Conformo, to visiting students. As part of his exhibition, visitors
were encouraged to paint on the wall.
Bienvenidos
Danny Torres
This corridor is marketed
as The Regional
Destination Place for
Latino Business, Arts, and
Culture. The artist, Danny
Torres, was challenged
with the goal of providing
an image to this phrase.
The result is a welcoming
and colorful mural that
depicts facets of the
various Latino cultures
within the commercial
corridor and the City of
Philadelphia.

T-Shirt Workshop
Young adults will enjoy
designing and collaging Tshirts with Taíno petroglyph
stencils and coloring with
non-toxic fabric paints.**
Petroglyphs and artifacts
tell of the rich culture and
history of the Taíno people,
the indigenous people who
inhabited Puerto Rico and
other islands before
colonization.
**An additional $3 per
student is required.
Mask-Making
Workshop
Our mask-making
workshop is ideal for
younger students.
After learning about the
colorful and vibrant
“Ponce Carnival” and the
role of the “Vejigante” as
an icon for Ponce and
Loiza, students create
their own vejigante mask
by coloring and
assembling paper cutouts
into a mask. The mask is
then strung and ready to
wear.
