History of Milledgeville:

Milledgeville is known as the city of capitals,
columns, and culture. It earned its name from
Georgia governor John Milledge (18021806) who was in office when Milledgeville
became the new capital of Georgia in 1803
because of its central location and ample
fresh water springs. The city saw many noble
figures, periodic fires, and willful destruction
during the War Between the States. While it
is no longer the capital of Georgia, it is home
to more than a dozen historic sites and 20
architectural landmarks. The preserved mansions, old oak trees, and ghostly legends take
Milledgeville back to its roots.
- Department of Veterans Affairs’ Community
Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) is located on A
Wing of the Wheeler Building. The CBOC allows
local veterans to obtain medical treatment within
their community without having to go to one of
the larger VA medical centers. Services offered
include: Primary Care, Mental Health, Social Work,
Diabetic Education, Smoking Cessation, TeleDermatology, Tele-Retinal, Nutrition Anticoagulation clinic and others. The clinic is a branch of Carl
Vinson Medical Center, also known as Dublin Veterans Medical Center. 478-414-4540
- Department of Veterans Service Office
The Milledgeville veterans field service office is
located in the Wheeler Building: D Wing, Room
D-100, at 2249 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, GA
31061. This office provides support to the five
surrounding counties and over 10,000 veterans in,
not including widows, children and any other
dependents in completing applications for benefits
available through the VA.

 Around the clock skilled nursing services
 Routine Therapies as ordered by the attending
physician, including occupational therapy,
physical therapy, speech therapy, and rehabilitation nursing
 Therapeutic Recreation
 Leisure Activities
 Medical Services
 Dental Services (Routine)
 Psychological Services
 Nutritional Counseling
 Regular Nutritious meals and Snacks
Facilities are wheelchair accessible including:
 Birdsong Recreation Center with 2 regulation
pool tables, 1 large screen HDTV, stage for
music, etc., large projection screen for movies
with theater quality surround sound, and arts/
crafts classes
 Outdoor pavilion with full kitchen
 Covered picnic tables with barbecue grills and
full sized BBQ pit.
 Miniature golf course
 Bus and two vans
 Each lobby has a large screen HDTV
 A large library with 3 computers and printers
with free internet access

There is a nominal daily fee keyed to the value of the
VA’s Aid and Attendance benefit. It may be adjusted
annually for cost of living. It does not include personal
laundry services, haircuts or purchases of personal
items.
