Just a few miles east of Historic Savannah,
Georgia, Tybee Island will tempt you with

Watch the shrimp boats scoop up delicious
Georgia shrimp, just in time for dinner that
night. Ride a bike on the hard-packed sand as
enormous cargo ships glide on the edge of the
horizon. Climb to the top of our historic 1773
Lighthouse and see the world like never before.
There are no high-rise condos to block your
view. Just plenty of charming, colorful cottages,

galleries to fit your mood. And flip-flops are the

Get amped on a shortboard or longboard. Maximize airtime on a kiteboard. See dolphins and
other marine life up close and personal on a
paddleboard. The best times are mid to high tide.

Biking & Walking
Our humble island is only about 3 miles long
so it’s easy to bike it or hoof it. The hard-packed
sand is ideal and the views are spectacular. Don’t
miss the Rails to Trails crushed-stone path along
Hwy 80 — great for biking, hiking and bird-watching. See p. 7 for bike rental info.
Natural Things To Do
The Beaches
North Beach is home to the lighthouse and is
ideal for watching international cargo ships on
their way to the Port of Savannah. South Beach
is where you’ll find surfers, the Pier & Pavilion,
restaurants, bars and shops. And there are
miles of accessible beaches in-between.
North Beach Bird Sanctuary
Tybee is one of the best places in Georgia
to bird-watch. And the kinds of birds change
with the tides. From Black Skimmers and
Brown Pelicans to Red-throated Loons and
Buffleheads, you’ll be amazed. You may even
spot Tybee’s official bird, the Painted Bunting
(see above).
Little Tybee Island
Accessible only by boat or kayak, this pristine,
uninhabited nature preserve is home to an endless, unspoiled beach of driftwood, native shells
and crabs. From subtropical forest to protected
marshes and estuaries, you’ll see all kinds of
native coastal birds including egrets, herons and
ospreys. Camping, guided tours, and charters are

Fort Pulaski National Monument
Completed in 1847, this historic fort was defended
by the Confederate Army as Union forces fired
powerful, new cannons from Tybee. You can still

Drop a line off the pier, in the surf or along the
Back River. Looking for a bigger catch? Check
out our deep sea or in-shore charters or rent
your own boat. Tybee is great for crabbing
too. If you’d rather order off the menu, you can

Immerse yourself in Tybee’s coastal wildlife,
armed with just a paddle, a kayak and a personal
