THE NEW MAXUM 1750 SR OFFERS
YOU A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

n elegant, simple look. A magnificently smooth ride. Little touches of opulence in just the right spots.
The Maxum 1750 SR offers all of these things while maintaining friendly
relations with your pocketbook.
Although the 1750 SR is too
inexpensive to qualify as a true lux-
ury boat, you won’t know the difference when you’re behind the wheel.
The 1750 SR features a custom-molded
console with metallic silver accents on
the dash, and a padded steering wheel
that is sure to make your hands happy.
Maxum Marine is a division of US
Marine, the company that also builds
the Bayliner and Trophy boat lines. In
our October 2002 issue, we premiered
the new Bayliner 175, which has
gained a great deal of attention for its
$9,995 price tag. The Maxum 1750 SR
has a lot in common with the Bayliner
175, but it offers more upscale features
and detailing.
The 1750 SR is not built in Mexico,
like the Bayliner 175, but Maxum
Marine has still incorporated lessons
learned from the plant in Mexico. Such
cost-cutting lessons have allowed

1750 SR’s easy-to-read dash puts
everything at your fingertips. An
in-floor stowage locker is great
for stowing wakeboards, life vests
and other onboard items. The boat
can reach a top speed of over 40
mph. The standard ski tow ring
makes this boat ready for wakeboarders and skiers who can’t
wait to hit the water.

$12,995 — including a standard single-axle trailer and a 3.0L Mercury
MerCruiser stern drive.
fast to the max
We tested the 1750 SR on the beautiful waters of Idaho’s Lake Coeur
d’Alene. Although the air temperature
was 99 degrees Fahrenheit on the day
of our test, the water was icy cold.
There were two adults on board
during the test, which started with a
quick run across the lake. The 1750
SR handles nicely and can take a
pounding.
Tracking was very straight, and we
had no shuddering during any part of
the test. Although the 1750 SR is
entirely different from the Bayliner
175, their rides are similar. The 1750
SR has nicer instrumentation and a
flashier dash, but it’s just as easy to
operate as the Bayliner.
Maxum has rated the boat for a top
speed of 40.8 mph with the standard
135 hp 3.0L Mercury MerCruiser stern
drive. Carrying a light load, we were
able to reach exactly 40 mph that day
on the water.
We were more than happy plying
the waters at cruising speed, which is
a formidable 29.3 mph. The boat’s 2
foot, 11 inch maximum draft allowed
us to explore all the little nooks and
crannies along the lake, so we took
the time to get a closer look at the
posh mansions that overlook the
water.
keepin’ it real
At the bow, you’ll find a V-shaped
seating area with two cup holders. A
wrap-around windshield sits abaft the
bow, protecting the skipper and passengers from the wind.

In addition to the previously mentioned custom-molded non-glare dash,
the helm console boasts side-mount
engine controls (with the trim and tilt
switch in the handle), an ignition safety switch with a lanyard, a 12v accessory outlet, and full (analog) instrumentation, including a speedometer, a
tachometer, a voltmeter, and oil pressure, water temperature, fuel and trim
gauges.
The port console features a lockable glove box, vinyl grabrails and an
AM/FM stereo CD player with weatherproof speakers. Well-placed cup
holders are located throughout the
cockpit.
The skipper has a starboard bucket
seat with slide and swivel movement.
To port, the sleeper seat converts to a
sun lounge with the help of an easyadjust slider. Both the look and the
design of the boat’s custom-contoured
upholstery are top-notch.
The fiberglass-covered engine compartment separates the port and starboard jump seats that run along the
transom. As you’re marveling over how
easy it is to get to the engine, also be
sure to notice the 1750 SR’s full fiberglass liner.
Other standard equipment includes
such items as a 12v horn, navigation
lights, a remote oil drain and a stainless steel ski tow ring.
As far as entry-level boats go, you
can’t beat the Maxum 1750 SR. It offers
you a taste of the good life without
taking a bite out of your wallet. If
you’ve never owned a boat before
because you didn’t think you could
afford one, you no longer have an
excuse. go
