Over the river and through the woods to the Elburn Lions Club facility for a great Turkey Dinner on November
15 we go! This fun event is our last driving event for the club this driving season. This time of the year is the
most ideal driving conditions for our Model As with crisp cool air, less traffic, and Autumn colors. For many
years the Fox Valley Model A club ran this event. The last few years it was held at Kaneland School. I recall
seeing 40-60 Model As parked there from 4-5 area A & T clubs. The Fox Valley club actually cooked the entire
bill of fare themselves as the event was their annual fund raiser. Two years ago their membership felt that they
did not have enough help to continue with the event. Several of our members who annually attended stated that
they really were going to miss it. Melinda and I had attended other events at the Elburn facility and were quite
impressed with it. We arranged with the Lions club to cater this event last year and every one attending seem to
really enjoy it. We have again invited our surrounding A & T Clubs to join us and I am happy to report we have
received a lot of registrations in the mail from members of different clubs. So get the A out for one final driving
event for a delightful meal and a fun drive out into the country on Nov. 15.
This year we had our first Pumpkin Rally in many years. Judging from the attendance, we had another great
event. Many As participated with several families in costume. Starting in Arlington Hts., we wound through
several communities, graveyards, and country roads before ending near where we began. Prizes were
awarded at the final destination to 4 drivers. Great job Patsy, Edie, and Corinne and all of your goblin/helpers.
This year’s Awards Banquet being held on Jan. 9th is extra special. It is our club’s 60th Anniversary, and we
are trying to incorporate some nostalgia, history, and reunion in to the festivity. We are trying to contact many
of our past Directors to join in even if they have left the hobby or moved away. We hope everyone will try
and join in the fun. So get your reservations in to Deborah and Steve Sarasin soon. We hope to have a big
turnout to celebrate the Illinois Region’s historical and colorful history.

Cover Photo – Joe Schutz
Joe joined the Model A Restorers Club in 1993. Later he became Director of the club for a year, he was
responsible for starting ladies night and served another year as treasurer.
He purchased a three window 1930 Model A Coupe with a rumble seat in Roscoe Illinois. After restoring
the car Joe received the touring class Mark of Excellence earning 405 points at the National meet, and the
Russ Garrits Award of Authenticity Workmanship.
In 1994 Joe obtained a fire engine for less than one dollar from a guy in Maringo Illinois that was all in
pieces as he describes it, he got it in many bushel baskets. Joe worked on it in his garage for a couple years
and then in Ken Ehrenhofer's garage for about five years.
Joe also had a 1930 Model A Briggs four-door which he made a trip to California along with Jerry D.
Thomas. Putting 6000 miles on the cars. The most memorable part of that trip was when he was following
Jerry with the windows down because it was a warm day a tractor-trailer hauling cattle went by him very
slowly. When a cow decided to relieve himself spraying Jerry with a yellow liquid, the stream was described as larger than your index finger. So much for slow-moving Model A's.
