BEHIND THE SCENES: THE LIFE OF A LOBBYIST Ms. Bova and Mr. Biacchi provided insight on day to day trials and tribulations of lobbying for the hospitality association in a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Longstreet. FINANCIAL REPORTS Mr. Zugger delivered the financial statements for the Political Action Committee (PAC) and the Political Education Committee (PEC). A. PAC/PEC Cash Flow Statement 1. Contribution Analysis Mr. Zugger reviewed the contribution analysis which showed $8,225.00 in PAC money received to date and $8,765.00 in PEC money received to date. Ms. Bova mentioned that the PAC contribution button which was added to the PRLA website has increased giving in the second quarter. 4. Chapter Breakdown The chapter contributions document was presented for review and comment. Currently, the new Bucks‐Mont Chapter is leading the challenge. Ms. Bova discussed chapter goals. There was a discussion regarding motivation. Brandywine Chapter won the challenge in 2014 and was presented with an award at last night’s dinner. 5. Liberty and Freedom Clubs The Liberty and Freedom Clubs were reviewed. Mr. Zugger thanked members who donated PAC money and are wearing supporter ribbons, giving extra recognition to Mr. Hottenstein and Mr. Longstreet who are currently the greatest PAC contributors. VI.
6. Campaign Contributions The list of 2015 Campaign Contributions made to date was reviewed. Mr. Purdum opened a conversation about board member accountability. In 2014, 80 percent of board members gave to PRLA‐PAC. It was suggested that a signed oath might be affective, as well as peer to peer outreach, to help bring the percentage to 100. Ms. Bova mentioned that the Freedom and Liberty Clubs are being presented at each chapter board meeting. NEW BUSINESS A. Review of 2015 Fundraising Goals The PAC/PEC strategy for 2015 was presented for review. The process has momentum and helped grow the PRLA‐PAC by 20 percent in 2014. Adding a contribution option to the PRLA Membership invoices has helped increase PEC donations. B. PAC website As stated above, contributions to PRLA‐PAC may now be made on the PRLA website. Contributors will not be required to log in to make their donation, simplifying this process. C. Peer‐to‐peer outreach Contributions will increase upon more engagement by the committee. Quarterly PAC / PEC meetings will be held to promote this engagement and peer‐to‐peer outreach. The Lodging and Restaurant PAC appeal letters of support will be added to the PRLA website so committee members may cut and paste on their own stationery. Mr. Zugger spoke of the need to educate vendors, colleagues and employees of the importance of PAC. 2
