FUSION Contact Centre Services, part of B u d g e t G r o u p , took Comic Relief calls for the first time. Staff at Peterborough were joined by colleagues from Coventry and directors and staff from head office, also in Peterborough. More than 200 volunteers manned 80 lines, taking 4,178 calls and pledges worth £121,579. Lesley Price, Comic Relief project manager, said: “The night was a great success and we’re already planning to help out with charity events like this in future.” In addition, Fusion staff in Sunderland, Coventry and Peterborough held fundraising activities including: a Red Nose cookie decorating competition fancy dress included Moni Melenchon, post claims adviser, as the Vicar of Dibley staff in Coventry pre-recorded their own version of Little Britain called Little Coventry, a take-off of life in the call centre, written and directed by sales manager Russell Kew. Colleagues were charged £1 to watch the DVD and can buy it for £2.50. FOUR hundred volunteers at BUPA’s UK membership call centres in Salford Quays and Staines took pledges worth more than £200,000 – plus another £32,000 through fundraising efforts. In Salford Quays, there were visits from cast members of Coronation Street and Emmerdale; while in Staines fire fighters handed out refreshments. Praise came from the two organisers, Rachael Parson (Salford Quays) and Nicky Chapman (Staines). Staff and residents at BUPA’s care homes held events ranging from a sponsored silence and karaoke to a slave auction. EVENTS at Churchill’s Teesside call centre – co-ordinated by Sarah Day, Lisa Reynolds and Wendy Brunskill – included: a banner competition, made by Wendy Grey’s team who donated their £60 prize to Comic Relief car washing service, leg waxing, cake sales, raffles for drink and Easter eggs and bidding for a signed Boro football a guess-the-weight-of-the-cake competition team leaders made breakfast for their teams dry cracker and red food challenges Pledges worth £145,000 were taken from 5,000-plus calls. CLIENTLOGIC’s call centre in Derby took more than 3,000 donations, totalling £103,710, including one of £2,500, for which agent Simon Turner won a prize.
