A message from the Director
As we approach the end of the Academic year, I would like to say a big thank you for all your support this
year. It has been a challenging and eventful year.
We celebrated children’s achievements both academically and through the sciences and arts. We also
embarked on a project to improve The King Fahad Academy’s premises including the construction of the
new Learning Resources Centre (LRC).
Remarkable achievements of our students were celebrated this year and important events were enjoyed
by our school community. One thing that characterizes the 2009-2010 academic year is the strong sense
of mission and purpose. It has been energizing to feel the extent to which this has been supported and
shared by the school community as a whole. The highlight of this academic year achievements was the
graduation of our first International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme cohort. These Students have
shown in many ways their strength of character, their robust base of righteousness, and their willingness
to positively engage and make a difference. What I see in these young people fills me with optimism for
the future.
To those of you who will be leaving The King Fahad Academy at the end of this academic year, I wish you
the best in your future. It has been a pleasure for us to work with all of you to make your stay in the
Academy as enjoyable and productive as possible. We hope you will all keep in touch.
I wish you all a happy and restful summer holiday and look forward to the new school year in September.

A Trip To Syon Park
th
On Wednesday 26 May, KG2 class visited Syon Park. The purpose of this trip was to visit the tropical
forest which is a centre for rescued and endangered species. In addition, the trip had a strong emphasis on
education and conservation.
During the trip, students learnt about the lifecycle of
butterflies which was a core learning topic for the
KG2 pupils this year.
The students particularly enjoyed feeding and
touching the animals which instilled in them a sense
of caring and compassion for other creatures.
Getting ready for a summer of reading
Each Boys’ and Girls’ Primary class has been on a recent trip to Ealing Central Library during the last few
weeks of term. KG2 students have visited Acton Library. Many students have enjoyed the experience of
taking public transport, either underground train or bus, for the first time. The sessions in the library have
been a mixture of education and fun as there have been story times, activities to complete and plenty of
time for pupils to browse through the wide selection of books that Ealing Library holds. It has been a
worthwhile experience for the children to be out in the community representing the Academy in such a
positive way as well as their coming to know about a place they can visit this summer that will provide
them with many pleasurable hours.

Poems by grade 6 Girls
Where am I?
I am a young child who loves fantasy and adventure.
I wonder if I can live in a fantasy world where
I could meet my favourite cartoon characters.
I hear them talk to me while I reply like a genius.
I hear someone cry and shout so loudly!
I feel like it’s time to be a detective.
I see an old woman hurt.
I cry inside my self without tears because the old woman looks sad.
I am a detective that shouldn’t cry.
I am a detective to rescue people.
I touch the woman’s hand to help her.
I worry that maybe someone is behind me.
I pretend to not be scared.
I look around to see what is there.
I see myself inside my room on the bed.
I say to myself where am I?
I understand that I was dreaming.
I can’t go back to the dream.

Nature
Nature is a wonderful thing.
Without it we can’t live.
Full of pretty flowers in the spring.
The tasty honey that the bees give.
Nature is blue, nature is green,
Nature is yellow, nature is red,
Nature is any colour possibly seen.
I dream of it when I’m in bed,
As I look at the clear blue sky,
I see the bright orange sun.
I wish I could just be a bird and fly,
Oh, it would be so much fun.
Nature is you, nature is me,
Nature will forever be free.

Grade 7 boys’ writing
In English, Grade 7 boys have been working very hard towards improving their writing skills. One of the
units studied was 'Poetry: An Introduction to Sonnets.' Within this unit students have written their own
poetry including sonnets. In addition, they were given the opportunity to analyse existing published poems
from the last few centuries, including ones by William Wordsworth and Elizabeth Daryush. The following
poems are examples of excellent work.
Mind
A wonderful thing is the mind,
Sometimes rude, sometimes kind.
Most of the time I find,
That people find evil uses for mind.
Mind control is something bad.
Some people wish they never had
The power to control mind.
Most of the time I find,
That people find evil uses for mind.
Why don’t you find,
Good uses for mind?
Like finding something new,
And be one of the few,
Who help this world grow,
Very fast not slow,
Why don’t you find,
Good uses for mind?
Amazing people are out there,
Who actually very much care.
For their ever expanding mind,
And most of the time I find,
These people find good uses for mind.
So I hope whoever reads this,
Will almost definitely use his,
To make this world a better place,
By using their mind in the right case.
And please do not displace,

Oh Apple!
Oh apple, how tasty you look.
You’re as round as a globe.
Your scarlet part looks just like the land
And your emerald part is the sea.
You’re as hard as steel
But for me you’re a very healthy meal.
My mouthwatering taste buds
are all I need,
However I don’t like your inside seeds.
You smell like a fruity flower
Even though you don’t look like one.
You taste so delicious.
So delicious that you make me ambitious
To eat every part of you.
Oh apple!

Also they have been producing excellent work in the unit: 'An Introduction to Media.' This has included
studying the language, content and presentation of feature articles and news reports. They have
completed their own articles, which have been collected into a portfolio, as well as creating their own
magazines. The following is an outstanding example of a feature article.
Skill On A Table!
Table Tennis is basically a sport in which you don’t need any special shoes, or any special clothes to play.
All you need is a table that has a net in the middle, a small ball and two small sized rackets. It is a sport in
which you move your hand a lot, left or right. Some people always say that it is
hard. That’s because they haven’t tried playing it except a few times. I know a
person who learnt how to be quite a good player in less than a month.
We have had a few interviews with a few people who enjoy this wonderful
sport in an extra way. James Bornow says: “Table Tennis gives me an excellent
sporty movement to my hands. It involves skill, and well I think that I’m a
skilful person!” There have always been people like James, who play this game
as a sport, as a game, and as an exercise to develop skill, and believe me, it’s an enjoyable sport.
Now if you look into this sport from a close view you will realise
that the most important method is skill. With skill you are
playing the game, otherwise you will never win any match. Your
hands are the habitat of skill in this game. The way to move
them in a fast way, in which you will hit the ball with the bat, as
well as the way you are using them to block the other player’s
hits. As long as you develop your skill you will enjoy winning
against other players! Also, how about enjoying some
championships in which you compete with other skilful players who practise in the same way?
So why don’t you convince yourself to start playing a new sport/game? Table Tennis is the best way to
have some extra control on both hands, and my advice is that you try it!

A poem about school
Leaving My School
When I left Grade 4
I felt scared because my
Friends could have left the school.
When I left my old school
I was very nervous,
But that didn’t stop me
From being curious about my new school.
‘Cause it might be cool
And it might have a pool,
It might be a VERY strange school.
I think Grade 5 is nice
Because the teachers and the students were kind.
I was scared of Ms. Louise
Now I’m not.
I am happy I came to Grade 5
I love Ms. Louise
She’s the best.
I’m scared
To go to Grade 6
Because there will be lots of homework
And different teachers.
After the summer holiday
I will be in Grade 6.
I don’t want to miss
My best teacher
Ms. Louise.
BY JAMILA INABI
I was sad about leaving my old friends,
But I always knew that friendships end.
The problem was that it is hard to know,
If your new friends are going to show you what the
school is really like,
So, can you go by riding a bike?
This year was fun,
It was like a trip to see the sun.
My teacher?
Oh, my teacher was the BEST!
I am going to miss her.
I am very worried about next year,
So from now on I’ll make sure I open my ear
To hear the teachers whenever they speak.
But I’m also excited ‘cause I’m going to be
A responsible girl
So NO ONE looks after me.
Going to Grade 6 is a very fun mix.
I know the teachers are very strict,
So I don’t have time to sit and knit,
Too bad, too bad
I like that hobby,
But I won’t do it if I’m already happy!
Now I’m going to give this to Ms. Louise
So finally I can go and rest my knees
But I can not go and try and send
This to anyone because it’s the end!

Grade 5 and 6
When I left….
G loomily leaving Grade 4 and 5,
R eally going to miss Grade 4
A nd even Ms. Clara
D ecent Ms. Louise was our teacher in Grade 5
Everyone really liked her which made us forget the
sadness.
When I left my old school,
I really wasn’t sad
It really wasn’t what you thought
But don’t think it’s bad.
F inally, is coming Grade 6
I s it going to be as good as Grade 4 and 5?
V ery scared that it won’t be true,
E nd of Grade 5, to Grade 6 it will be.
&
S ixth Grade is nearly here,
I n and out of classes every subject we need
X ’s in my tests, I hope it won’t be.
BY ZAINAB AL-JEBOORI
I left with only one girl knowing
I kept it a surprise
But then I went to visit again
Which made their hopes arise.
But never will I go back
And I really hope so!
Because if my parents made me
I would say no!
I’m in KFA
Oh, I love it so much!
Now I’m nearly in Grade 6
I haven’t seen a school as such.
Amazing teachers and friends
I had a whale of time,
And now it went like a fly.
But then it ends like an ending chime.
I had many friends
And no foes.
If I did,
I’ll crush them with my toes
In eleven weeks
I’ll be in Grade 6!
Oh, how I’m so excited.
Never ever am I frightened,
I’ll be a year older.
Must maturer,
Harder subjects,
Much more topics!
Entertainment all day
Homework that would say
You have lots of me today!

Promoting health and safety at the academy
Throughout this school year, King Fahad Academy has worked in concert with both the Ealing
Council and Transport for London to maintain a healthy and safe environment for the students. The overall
programme has included several specific activities. In support of safety immediately outside the Academy,
extra zebra crossings, zigzags and signage have been done. Our IB Diploma students also carried out a
survey in the surrounding community and the information was forwarded to the Ealing Council to assist
with continued safety programmes.
Transport for London generously supported educational programmes within the Academy to
promote a greater awareness of health and safety issues. Students in grades five, six and nine participated
in a drama programme called Now You See Me. This programme promoted increased safety awareness
when travelling to/from school and educated students on problem-solving strategies, as related to traffic
related situations.
Grade seven boys and girls participated in a programme with other schools in our area of the
Borough to promote health and fitness by monitoring how many steps on average they took during the
course of a normal day. Records were kept by individual pedometers provided for the students. At the end of
the activity, we were proud of all students who participated and especially of Maryam Karasad who received
the award of top girl participant.

Junior Mathematics Challenge
The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity based at the University of Leeds, whose aim is to
advance the education of children in Mathematics.
The Junior Mathematics Challenge aims to stimulate greater interest in Mathematics for students in year
8 and below, and is the UK's biggest national Mathematics competition. Gold, silver and bronze
certificates are awarded nationally and the most successful participants are invited to enter follow-on
rounds.
This year, the KFA participated in the Junior Mathematics Challenge for the fourth year running.
Boys and girls from grades 6, 7 and 8 took the challenge on 29th April and the winners were as follows:
- Gold medal winner: Serin El Ghazoini
- Silver medal winner: Zahra Al-sahaf
- Bronze medal winners: Abeer Alakwa, Amani Almourad, Amina Felkaouui, Sara Almunifi, Alaa Ibrahim,
Hashim Hassan and Rayan Al-Binhasan
This is an outstanding achievement for the students and the KFA. I would like to congratulate them on
their effort and progress.

Primary Sports Day
th
Wednesday 16 June was sports day in the Boys’ Primary School at the King Fahad Academy. Students
turned up bright and early in their House colours: the Falcons were blue, Cheetahs were yellow, Cobras
were red and Dragons were green. Each house was competing for more House points so they could be the
top House at the end of the year and receive their prize.
At 10:35 sharp the primary classes assembled on the Astro turf ready for the warm up activities with the
days’ organiser – Mr. Walid Zaky. Each class teacher took their classes to five different stations in which
different tasks were to be completed. Each station was controlled by a teacher who would record the
results for each House and instruct them in the challenge. Activities included a game of hoops, relay races,
a sack race, a long jump, dribbling a football toward a special goal, a skipping relay case followed by a
bean bag toss and the most intense activity for everyone, an assault course where each student was timed
on how fast he could make it to the end of the course and back. Some students were very fast whilst others
struggled.
After lunch Mr. Zaky organised a football match for the Houses to face off against each other. Finally, at
the end of the day there was an award ceremony held in Al-Mongour Hall. The results of the day were
announced in terms of which House came first. Falcons were in first place, followed by Dragons, Cobras
and the Cheetahs. This however, only reflected the results of the day and not the whole year. It was a good
day for everyone and we look forward to next year.

Falcons of blue house are #1
th
On Friday 25 June the Blue House Falcons were recognized as the top House from the Boys’ Section for
this school year. Competition was fierce with the other three Houses. All year long boys earned points for
their respective Houses in their academic classes where teachers awarded them points based on excellent
achievement, effort and behaviour. In addition, several events were held like sports competitions,
academic competitions, and regular weekly lunches when the boys came together as one House to earn
points.
In the end, all points collected during the entire school year were totalled and, although it was a close
count to the very end, the blue Falcons were recognized as #1 House for the year. While the Blue House
deserves this recognition, each and every student is to be congratulated for the contributions and support
given to his respective House.
Thank you PTA ladies!
How many ways can we express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Souhailah and the
wonderful ladies of the Academy’s PTA who have been so generous with their time and efforts in so many
ways throughout this school year? From weekly pizza sales in the dining hall; break time Tuck Shops;
organizing and donating time, food and other items to various functions; to volunteering in classrooms
and chaperoning fieldtrips, the PTA ladies have done it all! For all of their generous support, the staff and
students of the Academy would like to say a sincere THANK YOU!
