Bulk Water Meter ZF-series
WPH-ZF
Sizes DN 40 - DN 500
WPH-K-ZF-I-N DN 50
A modular approach was used in the development of
the W-ZF meter series. This can be seen by the broad
range of applications in which the meter can be used.
In its simplest form, the meter can be used as a
purely mechanical meter that utilizes a Woltman style measuring technique. However, this basic meter
also has a removable insert which can be easily
serviced. Furthermore the meter can be readily
upgraded to generate a range of different pulse
outputs which in turn can link the meter to a complex
communications network.
WPH-K-ZF-N DN 200
Body and insert
2
Special features are:
EEC approval class B from DN 50 to DN 200
Turbine bearing: The standard version
turbine bearing consists of hard metal and
corundum which wear to a minimum and thus
guarantee high durability.
Pinion bearing: The pinion connecting turbine
and counter runs on bearings with sapphire
(corundum) on both ends.
The W-ZF development is based on a ”total
solutions” concept. Meter sizes DN 80 to DN 150
employ a well proven measuring insert that delivers
the high accuracy and lifetime usually associated
with Woltman technology. However, the sizes DN
40/65 and DN 200 represent a further development
in terms of accuracy. The meter is designed for water
temperatures of up to 50° C and as a hot water
meter or volume measuring unit for energy meters of
up to 130°C .
The insert is removable and thus well
accessible for maintenance.
The body is completely coated with plastic powder
providing tough, durable protection against corrosion
and impacts. Standard bodies are rated to PN 16
(1600kPa).
ISO 7005-2 flange dimension conform to ISO 7005-2
PN 10; ISO 7005-2 flange dimension conform to ISO
7005-2 PN 16 is also on our list. On request a high
pressure version PN 25 for all meter sizes is
available.
The insert ensures long term, high level of accuracy
and is within class B measurement accuracy. The
WPH-ZF is constructed according to the standards of
ISO 4064 class B and meets the relevant EEC
standards for cold water.
All screws and nuts in the insert are made
from stainless steel.
Magnet protection: The meter is protected
against interference from external magnetic
fields.
For horizontal and vertical installation.
WPH-ZF
The multifunctional counter with six big
number rollers and two pointers is easily read and
presents itself in a modern, appealing design. The
counter can be equipped with plastic or mineral glass.
The anti-condensation coating (nano-coating)
guarantees optimal readability of the counter. The
counter can also be adjusted to the desired position
and thus makes simple and correct reading of the
display possible.
The encapsulated, evacuated counter sealed with
an O-ring is protected against flooding and can be
equipped with an additional dry cartridge on
request.
Steel sealing cap: protects the window against dirt
and damage. A plastic sealing cap which can be
rotated by 360° is also available on request. The
plastic sealing cap can be adjusted according to the
mounting position and mounting conditions of the
meter.
”The sky is the limit” in regard to the pulse output
options: Reed*, Opto and Namur type pulsers can
be fit directly in WPH counters up to DN 500. A key
feature of this meter is that these pulsers can be
installed without disturbing the calibration seal. A
field installer can fit the pulser without the need to
reseal the meter. The pulser can also be secured with
an additional lead seal. This range of products can be
tied into the CHEKKER® system with the CHEKKER®
pulse counter module visio.
Counter
The counter is a completely new
development and meets all
requirements for a modern
counter of today.
An electronic counter is currently under development.
This module will fit directly into the meter replacing
the mechanical gear box and rollers. It will provide
unprecedented levels of accuracy and extensive
communication and data logging facilities.
A host of technical solutions that handle the output
pulses from the meter and process them are
available.
* Double-reed version in development.

Bulk Water Meter ZF-series
Combined honeycomb rectifier
the measurement is not falsified. This problem
occurs if a meter is installed immediately after a
valve bend in the pipe or if several pumps feed one
collecting pipe.
Perfect measuring results in Woltman meters
require that the water strikes the meter at a steady
flow.
In order to prevent excessive turbulence in flow,
stabilizing sections in front of the meters are
prescribed
prescribed. This task is also carried out by the flow
straighteners which are fitted in front of and behind
the meter.
A honeycomb rectifier solves this problem. 32
square axial-flow channels destroy the angular
momentum of the water inside the pipeline.
Located at the inlet of the honeycomb section
is a perforated disc whose cross section is
approximately half the size of the cross section
of the pipe. The inflowing water is damped and the
square channels which follow destroy any angular
momentum.
The head loss caused by the honeycomb rectifier at
a flow rate of 3 m/sec is approximately 0.1 bar. The
metal flange on the perforated disc is used
to secure the rectifier between two flanges with the
honeycomb section pointing in the direction of flow.
A length of blank pipe at least 5 pipe diameters
should be fitted in front of the meter.
If the rectifier is positioned at a short distance in
front of the meter then minus-range deviations
in measurements can occur.
The honeycomb rectifier is made of stainless steel.
Should, however, an irregular rate of flow occur
in the pipe cross section, other or additional measures
must be taken so that the result of

IZM 208
The IZM 208 pulse counter module can take the
inputs of up to 3 pulse output meters and integrate
them into a bus system.
King-sized connectors, mural or DIN rail mounting as
well as several optional or retrofittable function
modules allow the user to solve every kind of metering demand.
Key features include:
Flow rate averaged over the last 30 minutes.
Even if pulses are 30 minutes apart, the algorithm will continue to deliver an accurate
averaged flow rate.
Data logging with user configurable storage of
samples to maximise capacity. Using plug-in
modularity, memory can be easily upgraded.
The pulse streams are increased with the builtin 230 V power supply module. Due to this,
interferences are minimized and impulse pipes
can be longer.
All devices are supplied with an optical
interface for mobile data logging along with
programming of the specific parameters.
The option of RS232, ZR-Bus, M-BUS, radio
module 433 MHz or 868 MHz - all from the one
unit.
A non-volatile memory captures and saves at regular
intervals all essential data. Operating failures and
errors are detected automatically and can be shown
on the local display with date, duration and type of
error.
Furthermore, the integrated data logger allows
access to further stored data which is not accessible
on the display. Due to the integrated clock and
calendar, specified reading date (S.R.D.) data are
also no problem for our IZM 208 pulse counter
module. The volumes of the meters are written into
the memory on the date specified by the user year
after year and can be read or transmitted remotely.
As well as displaying consumption data on the local
register, the IZM 208 also makes this data available
on the bus when requested. Low-cost pulse output
meters can be used to establish an M-Bus network
without the high cost normally associated with M-Bus
compatible meters.
Dimensions
The robust plastic body of the pulse counter module,
the circumferential o-ring nut and the PG-fitting with
plastic segment insets provide ideal protection for the
electronic system against water. If fittings are not
used, standard mounted hole plugs or hard plastic
plugs prevent dirt and moisture from entering.
Datamanagement with ZENNER softwares.
The pulse counter module can work together with all
meters.

modem, radio
Meters are being increasingly read electronically over
a communications network. In the future, all meters
will be read automatically. ZENNER has the
technology today to achieve this goal in the future.
For the W-ZF meter series, 4 systems of meter
reading are available.
1.
“On-Site” reading where the reading is taken
at or near the location of the meter. This can
be performed using our hand-held terminal
(Psion, Ipaq) or using a PC.
2.
Automated meter reading where the meter is
read fully automatic using modems.
3.
Radio reading where radio waves are used to
transmit the read-out from the meter, using for
example the unidirectional compact radio
wave module RDM 802 for reading Woltman
meters installed in shafts.
4.
Remote reading by a battery-operated GSM
module for meters when access to the meter
location is difficult. Data transmission via GSM
modem in predetermined, programmable
intervals.
ZENNER recognizes that hardware is only a small
part of a meter reading system. In some regards,
good software is the most significant component of a
meter reading system. Therefore ZENNER has
developed software with the aim of making the
transition from meter reading to the billing system as
smooth as possible. Our software development
concept is an open and modular software
concept called Global Meter Management
(GMM).
ZENNER’s approach to data processing can be
summarised as follows:
Suitable instrument selection
Windows CE® powered Pocket PC
