teambuilder February 13, 2015 Online Annual InService Update The 2015 Online Annual InService is live and active on the intranet. There is a new look to the InService, so please read the pages carefully. Thank you to public relations staff Rich Johnson, creative director, and Lindsey Ford, graphic designer, for their hard work for getting the new InService up and running! If you are a new hire as of Jan. 1, 2015, you do not have to take the online InService, as your Employee Orientation serves as your annual InService for the year. PSU Students: Scholarship Available The Penn State Grey Lions are offering a $1,000 scholarship this year. Pick up an application in the Human Resources Office. Requirements will accompany the application. Deadline for submission is April 1. 2014 W-2 Forms You should have received your 2014 W-2 forms, as they were mailed out the week of Jan. 19. They are also available for viewing and printing in Workday by clicking on the Pay icon and then View/ My Tax Documents. Masonic Village at Elizabethtown Employee Newsletter You Make the Difference: A Random Challenge by Cindy Phillips, executive director As you read this, we’re halfway through “Random Acts of Kindness” month. I remember several years ago on a visit to Masonic Village, I heard staff talking about how they were celebrating it in fun ways on our campus. I know this is not a new concept, and that many of you do these acts of kindness every day. I am very thankful for that! Yet, we’re all so busy and often running from task to task, meeting to meeting. I know I benefit from a healthy reminder of something so powerful. This month was a great example for me - whether you call them “random” or “spontaneous” acts - these are some of the most morale boosting things we can do for another human being. So I re-committed to focusing on it this month. Of course, I made it too hard. I imagined living up to the pay-it-forward stories we all hear on the news. I stopped and refocused on simpler things – like calling someone by name, noticing their hair salon visit, appreciating their act of service, acknowledging a job well done, helping them carry something heavy, publicly telling them how special they are, sending a complimentary email, or just a smile of hello. It makes a huge difference in someone’s day, and it doesn’t cost a thing. I challenge all of us to do it just one extra time this month. If we do, we’ll positively touch 1,000+ lives in just a few short moments ... sounds worth it to me! Masonic Villages’ LinkedIn Company Page The Masonic Villages is pleased to announce that we have established a Company Page on the popular social media service LinkedIn. Now, when you say that you are an employee of the Masonic Villages of Pennsylvania in your profile, you can link to our corporate page to provide further information on our services and mission. To create this link, you will need to sign in to your profile on LinkedIn.com. If you don’t already have a profile on this service, you will need to create one. Once signed in, scroll over the “Profile” link in the menu bar; it will drop down and provide you with an “Edit Profile” option, which you should click. In the experience area, you can edit the name of your employer by clicking on it. This will bring up a menu with a header for “Company Name,” under which will be the current name of the employer as you identified it. All you need to do is click “Change Company Name,” located directly next to it, and start typing in “Masonic Villages of Pennsylvania.” As you complete the name, you should see the page appear in the drop down, along with our logo. Click the name to add it to the field, and then click the blue save button. You’re all done! We thank you for sharing your experiences working at the Masonic Villages on LinkedIn, and we look forward to connecting with as many employees as possible! When people consider moving to retirement living at Masonic Village, there are two misconceptions that surface most often: 1. Masonic Village is only open for Masons. Masonic Village was built upon Masonic values, and we host Masonic groups on campus, offer outreach programs exclusively for members and their families, and encourage and promote the fraternity and its charitable efforts. As part of continuing our service to Masons and their families and fulfilling our Mission of Love, we have extended services and living options for Masons and nonMasons alike. 2. Masonic Village is too expensive. Living options in retirement living range from studios to apartments to cottages which fit a variety of budgets, including rental plans. All residents pay a monthly service fee which covers: flexible meal plans (standard plan includes one meal per day), bimonthly housekeeping services, maintenance of furnished appliances and residential repairs; water, sewer, electric and heating/air conditioning; property taxes and insurance; trash and snow removal; 24-hour security; emergency call system; landscaping; scheduled shuttle service; and recreational opportunities. For someone who doesn’t reside in a retirement community, the cost of all these services can add up quickly, and the list doesn’t even include intangible benefits, such as social interaction and peace of mind knowing personal care and nursing services are available if and when they’re needed. If you know someone considering a move to a retirement community, clearing up these misconceptions about Masonic Village can help us maintain high occupancy levels, while promoting the maintenance-free, dynamic lifestyle that awaits them here. Any questions may be directed to the Sales and Marketing Department at ext. 15534. Save the Date!
