DePelchin Children`s Center
Children’S CENTER 2011 annual report Vision We envision a world in which every child is safe and healthy. Mission We strengthen the lives of children by enhancing their mental health and physical well-being. Dr. O’Connor (r.) accompanied by Curt Mooney and Nancy O’Connor Abendshein at the 2008 luncheon. DePelchin Children’s Center mourns the loss of Dr. Maconda Brown O’Connor, who was a champion of children’s causes, including those addressed by the center. Dr. O’Connor was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at DePelchin’s annual luncheon in 2008. This woman of many talents generously supported DePelchin both personally and through The Brown Foundation, Inc. She will be deeply missed by DePelchin and the children whose lives she sought to improve. About DePelchin Children’s Center DePelchin Children’s Center is committed to meeting the needs of children as one of the largest providers of mental health, foster care and adoption services in Texas. Through its clinical expertise and special brand of caring, DePelchin turns lives around, providing a full continuum of care including psychiatric services, counseling, residential treatment, programs for at-risk youths, parent education, foster care and adoption. DePelchin is a not-for-profit organization and gratefully receives its support from individuals, foundations and corporations; government grants and fees; and United Way agencies. FROM THE BOARD CHAIRMAN Dear Friends, I f the joy is in the journey, then DePelchin is on a fabulous trip! We are celebrating our 120th birthday this year, and there have been many important markers of success along the way. In particular, the year 2011 was marked by positive outcomes in our programs and strong support from our community, all of which is highlighted in our 2011 Annual Report. I would like to note three achievements of special importance: • We opened our first satellite location dedicated to children’s mental health in Katy, Texas. • We acquired Caring Family Network, an Austin-based foster care and adoption agency with offices in San Antonio, Kerrville, Lubbock, and Brownwood. • We bid farewell to Curt Mooney, our long-time CEO, and welcomed Jenifer Jarriel as our new leader. Among other achievements, we have kept our name but changed our branding to reflect “A New Day for DePelchin!” Our motto, “We turn lives around,” reinforces our commitment to changing the direction of a child’s life and pointing him or her toward a brighter, more optimistic future. In 2011, we turned lives around for more than 20,000 children and families through our mental health, foster care, and adoption services. The journey for the children in our care is not always a joyous one; it can be one fraught with wrong turns, bad directions, and feelings of being lost or forgotten. Thanks to friends such as you, we are able to help these children, show them the way, and turn their lives around. Without you, lives that could have been headed for a dead end now see the sunlight on the horizon. Indeed, it is a new day for DePelchin, and we are so grateful for the joy you have added to our journey. With sincere gratitude and best wishes, Pamela H. Lovett Chairman Board of Directors 2011 ANNUAL REPORT | 1 Outcomes Mental Health DePelchin offers comprehensive mental health services including individual and family counseling, psychological testing, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, autism assessment and services, and residential treatment for children and youths who need specialized, intensive care.
