HKU SEEP provides an immersion experience in a world class university with input from a combination of top quality teachers and energetic, high-achieving tutors. The focus of the programme is on two English skills which are essential for those considering studying in international universities. English Academic Writing is important because assessments in universities often involve long pieces of complex writing. Good grades require not only a mastery of the required knowledge but the ability to express the knowledge clearly. English Public Speaking is also important because many universities use formal presentations as additional assessment tools. Although knowledge of the topic is essential, the advantage lies with students who present skillfully and confidently. The HKU SEEP programme will teach participants key techniques in both Academic Writing and Public Speaking. The target is to raise proficiency and confidence to enable participants to perform to their best ability. The unique setting for HKU SEEP is the campus of HKU, famous for its high academic standards. Participants will enjoy the well-equipped, modern campus and also experience the vibrant interaction of cultures unique to a location where East meets West. This programme provides participants with a taste of studying in an international environment while still retaining the proximity of familiar Chinese culture. HKU SEEP has been designed for those with high aspirations. The focused goals and expert staff of the programme provide the best opportunity of achieving those aspirations. We look forward to welcoming you at HKU. The teachers here taught us different skills for delivering speeches. It is not about how good your English is, but how much you want to improve. It does not matter if we make mistakes, remember them and improve. Thanks to the teachers here, I am now more confident in speaking English and expressing my ideas.” Lam Wing Ying (Hong Kong) 6 Find out more and APPLY NOW at www.hkuseep.hk HKU SEEP: 1-12 AUGUST 2016 What we offer The exclusive HKU Summer English Exchange Programme (HKU SEEP) offers high school students (aged 16-18) the unique opportunity to develop the highly coveted academic writing and public speaking skills at The University of Hong Kong, one of Asia’s top universities. Learn to structure speeches with an attention-grabbing introduction, a coherent body and a compelling ending. 4. Learn to use body language and vocal varieties effectively. 5. Compare different great public •speakers and develop their own unique delivery style. 6. Distinguish between good and bad PowerPoint presentations, and deliver a good one. 7.
