“I chose IBS for its good reputation, the internationally
recognized British degree and a study abroad possibility with
Erasmus. However, beyond these attractive features what I
loved most in the end was the way we studied: sharing our
thinking about real business issues in small groups, developing
our self-confidence by doing loads of presentations, getting
support from dedicated professors and inevitably becoming
friends with people from many different countries.”

OUR PARTNER: THE UNIVERSITY OF
BUCKINGHAM - BEST UNIVERSITY IN
UK FOR GRADUATE EMPLOYABILITY
British Degree
The degree conferred by our collaborative partner,
The University of Buckingham on all our bachelor’s
and master’s programmes is a seal of quality on our
education. More importantly, however, this degree is also
a globally accepted and highly valued door-opener for
our graduates to the best positions the world over.
The University of Buckingham
Founded in 1976 by a group of former Oxford academics,
Buckingham is the first and only independent university
in the United Kingdom with a Royal Charter. Today The
University of Buckingham is a top-ranking university: it
has come 16th out of 120 institutions in The Guardian’s
University Guide 2013 league table and 21st out of 116 in
The Times’s 2012 Good University Guide. Data released
by the Higher Education Statistics Agency in 2013
shows 96.9 per cent of graduates of The University of
Buckingham last year have secured employment or are in
further study since leaving the university, which makes
it the number one UK university in terms of graduate
employability, right before the University of Oxford.
Campuses in Budapest and Vienna
The latest stage in our internationalisation drive has
been the opening of our campus in Vienna, Austria. This
means that IBS is not only international because of the 80
nationalities present in our student body, but also offers
its programmes in two countries.
Excellent Career Prospects at IBS
The degree, the international experience, and the
practice-based teaching and learning will combine to
enhance our students’ employability. Employers are
aware of the high standards our graduates achieve. As a
result, overwhelming majority of our graduates go into
work or further study within three months of graduation.
International Exposure
Our highly international student population creates a
lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere where students can do
networking and learn to respect diversity. (The ratio of
international students on BSc is above 50% and on MSc
above 75%) We encourage our students to prepare for
the global labour market by providing them language
lessons, by giving access to the expertise and advice
of our global alumni and by offering specialist career
contacts and advice.

“To begin with, I was always interested in arts, and I also
wanted to learn management. At IBS I have the opportunity to
learn both by having very good subjects. Moreover, IBS offers
us a great international atmosphere with friendly students,
teachers and staff. I believe that IBS can support my future
career as an arts manager and give me an unforgettable
experience.”

the quality of education on offer, the facilities, the staff
and the academic programmes. It also gives your degree
a recognised value to employers around the world. IBS
has institutional and specific programme accreditations
most importantly by The University of Buckingham and
by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee as well as
from leading international organisations that review and
monitor the quality of business schools and universities
such as:
The British Accreditation Council (BAC)
The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and
Programs, U.S. (ACBSP)
The European Council for Business Education (ECBE)
International Advertising Association, U.S. (IAA)
SMBG Eduniversal (1,000 Best Business Schools
Worldwide)
Superbrands (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013)
Teaching Excellence
We offer a wide range of learning methods including
no large lectures but seminars, tutorials, group work,
integrative discussions, projects and placements.
We equally value independent study and group work.
This means you take responsibility for your own learning
and performance whilst delivering work in groups within
set time scales. For those on a Bachelor programme, this
will feel new and unusual at first, but our teaching staff
are there to support and guide you as you progress. This
approach develops strong analytical skills and the ability
to make sense of new material quickly, while improving
communication skills.
Our high-quality teaching and learning environment will
help you achieve your goals. Innovative learning methods
and state-of-the-art facilities are designed to give you the
best possible university learning experience.

“IBS is a university offering an internationally acknowledged,
full-time English degree in Budapest. Finding work after
graduation is not a chore, but rather a difficult choice among
endless possibilities, as every foreign and domestic firm has
good experience with IBS graduates. The courses are held by
professionals whose background and insight make classes
worth attending. Budapest is the best city for students in
Europe, and the combination of such a unique environment,
student life and degree has proved to be the best career
choice I have made.”

BACHELOR’S PROGRAMMES: THEORY,
PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE, STUDY
ABROAD AND WORK PLACEMENT
Undergraduate Programmes
All our bachelor’s programmes are 3-year full-time
courses of modular studies leading to the Bachelor
of Science degree conferred by The University of
Buckingham. The language of tuition is English on all
programmes. They start with a common first year that
will allow you to make a decision with regard to your final
programme choice as late as the end of the first year. In
the sixth semester you will have to choose between doing
a study-abroad or an internship, or to combine the two
through undertaking a work placement in a third country.
A complex personality and competence development
curriculum is an integral part of each programme.
ERASMUS Exchange
Coming to IBS will open up a number of opportunities
for you to study abroad, without adding to the length
of your studies. ERASMUS is the mobility programme
of the EU for university students, teachers and staff. At
least one semester abroad is open to all IBS students
during their studies. ERASMUS even provides for a
grant that is currently around EUR 600 a month to cover
living costs abroad. We are happy to welcome over
100 students a year who come from our 68 ERASMUS
partner universities. Our partners include high-ranking
universities in European countries.
Work Placement
Optional work placement in the sixth semester of your
studies is an excellent opportunity for testing your
strengths, showing your abilities and more often than
not, finding your workplace. In recent years, close to
40 per cent of our students have found a job upon
graduation at their placement organisation. Combining
outward mobility with work placement is also an
opportunity you may consider: we can offer a steadily
increasing number of third-country placement positions
to our students, also supported by ERASMUS grant.
Company Network
Our partners not only include large multinational
companies, but also small businesses, the not-for-profit
sector, and non-governmental organisations at national
and regional levels. This engagement enables us to
shape, inform and evaluate what we do – ensuring that
your studies reflect current thinking in business practice.

“The opportunity that IBS’s management programme provided
for me is really rewarding. The academic knowledge that I
have acquired demonstrates that my choice to study in this
renowned institution was definitely an excellent one. Come
and participate in this incredible journey!”

BSc in Arts Management
This programme trains you to be successful in managing
the people and the organisations that make up the arts
and events communities. You will not only gain insight
into the history, funding, ownership and creation of
arts, including the music industry, but also get handson experience with the artistic creative process through
practicum modules. By taking optional modules, you can
immerse in special areas of interest, such as pop music,
film industry or gallery management. Many graduates
work as curators in art galleries or museums, or as
writers or consultants working in areas related to visual
culture and the art market. The training and skills you
acquire will also prepare you for a whole range of careers
that are not necessarily related to your subject of study.

“I have chosen IBS for my undergraduate studies because
it gives me the opportunity to earn a valued British degree
while staying in Hungary. One of the key advantages of IBS
that I appreciated the most during my studies was the quality
of the teachers. They have significant work experience, and
some of them are also well-known experts in their field. They
stand for transmitting knowledge in an understandable, but
professional way. In my opinion the combination of the above
facts with the multicultural learning environment makes IBS
the best choice.”

Management is sometimes defined as the achievement
of results with, and through, others. Whether the
challenge is beating the competitors or educating
future professionals, the answer often comes down to
management. Through this programme, you will have
insights into a breadth of issues and areas ranging from
finance, marketing, HR, organisational behaviour to
operations and project management. As a consequence,
you will be able to make a positive contribution in a range
of settings. You are as likely to find yourself working in a
small, privately-owned company as you are to work in a
large multinational, the public sector or perhaps even in
your own business.

ADVANCE YOUR CAREER: JOIN
ONE OF OUR ONE-YEAR, PRACTICEORIENTED MASTER’S PROGRAMMES
Master’s Degree in One Year
We offer four postgraduate programmes in English, all
leading to the Master of Science degree conferred by
our British partner, The University of Buckingham. All
our master’s programmes are full-time, take 3 terms
(2 taught terms and 1 summer term for dissertation
writing) and can be completed within 12 months. In order
to accommodate your work commitments, we provide
a flexible schedule with courses delivered in blocks
typically on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturdays
all day. Our programmes are designed primarily for
recent graduates. Nevertheless, they are also found
attractive by those wishing to make a career change. All
programmes are available on both campuses, Vienna and
Budapest.
Challenging Programme
Completing a master’s programme at IBS requires
considerable commitment on your part. We aim to match
your commitment by providing a challenging programme
that encourages you to question the way management
and business processes operate in an organisation. The
open and critical thinking we help you to develop is
highly valued by employers.
Cross-cultural Context
Students on our master’s programmes come from a wide
variety of learning environments. They are expected
to be independent learners, and for many this is a new
experience. Our faculty support and guide all programme
participants in making this transition as we are convinced
that independent study develops strong research skills
and the ability to make sense of new material quickly,
while improving communication skills.
An additional core value of our master’s programmes is
the development of individual and team building skills
in cross-cultural contexts. This latter is enhanced by
the fact that our students arrive from many different
countries and cultures.
27
“IBS prepares you for your business career very
systematically. We learn to work in teams, always discuss
up-to-date case studies from the business world, present
our ideas with persuasive arguments and can choose
from numerous internship jobs with the help of the Career

experience both in and out of classroom. This is a huge
competitive advantage.”

some beautiful sights of Budapest and Lake Balaton and had a
great time during these four weeks. Classes are fun, teachers
are professional and mistakes in English are welcome!”

“IBS has a way of finding the right way of communication
with each student. You can really feel part of a multicultural
society, where you play your own role. By studying in such an
environment, students get used to the feeling of intercultural
society, which will help them in the future.”

restored architectural heritage buildings, is located in
Graphisoft Park in Óbuda, directly by the Danube and will
be an ideal venue for education. The Park that hosts over
60 leading international and Hungarian companies, including Microsoft, SAP, Canon or Samsung, will provide a

us to exploit the implied potential in full in the interest of
our students and graduates. The campus also includes a
residence hall for our students.

“The useful courses, opportunities, the students, the
environment that IBS provides are really one of a kind. Its
more than a University, it’s a community; it’s a big group of
friends from many different countries. Being a member of this
community and the many steps of success I have taken all in
IBS, makes me feel the sentence “Proud to be IBS”.

“I spent one semester at IBS as an Erasmus student and loved
the atmosphere, it felt like having an extended family where
you know everyone, including teachers. In my free time I
walked the streets of Budapest and had great connections
with local people. I especially loved food markets, the river
embankment, the castle area and Margaret Island where no
cars are allowed. The city is both historic and modern, local
transport is cheap and food is very tasty.”

independent and at the same time make new friends with
students from other parts of the world. I am learning to
respect other cultures, religions and very different ways of
thinking and behaviour. Team projects and international days
facilitate sharing our traditions, yet accepting new ideas. IBS is
a real melting pot.”

“It was by accident that I came to IBS - largely on the insistence
of my parents. Since then I can feel it more than anyone that
it was a good decision to choose IBS, since I have acquired so
much knowledge and experience with the help of the school
that wouldn’t have been possible elsewhere. IBS has changed
and broadened my sphere of interests.”
