Revell Fairey Gannet COD4. By Peter Terry Revell’s T5 version of the Gannet is ideal to convert to a COD (Carrier on Board Delivery) little needs to be done but leave off the periscope from the first and second cockpit. The mouldings are fine with engraved panel lines a far cry from the Frog kit hailing back to the 1950s. Revell have included fully detailed wheel wells and weapons bay as well as cockpits with open or closed canopy's. The weapons bay doors in my opinion fit better open than they do closed. If you use the one piece doors you will need to use a little filler and some clamps. I succeeded in having them closed. I felt that at end of this build, Revell tried to get to much out of this kit - separate flaps, opening weapons bay doors as well as opening canopys. The instructions, like all Revell kits, are not their strong point and to me seem over complicated making long periods of modelling tiring. The only parts added were cargo containers from Alley Cat which fitted under the wings perfectly and decals from the Xtradecal sheet number X72-070. The overall paint scheme of RAF blue grey came from the Humbrol range plus lots of lead which still resulted in it being a tail sitter! Would I build another one - not in a hurry. Peter 28/06/2015
