Kyle and Shirley Downs
Blaine Kyle Downs grew up in Lewisville, Idaho
until his 8th grade graduation. Kyle rode his horse
from Lewisville to Hamer 1947 following
graduation. Kyle’s father had purchased 160
undeveloped acres in Hamer to grow potatoes after
World War II . They lived in a little log house. Kyle
went one year to Hamer High School then to
Roberts High School.
Shirley Ann Zweifel grew up in Monteview, Idaho.
Shirley started working in the hay fields at age 8.
She attended 1st and 2nd grade in Roberts as
Monteview had no power, telephones or school
buses. Shirley went to 3rd grade at a 2 room school
house at Level. (That is 2 miles north of Mud
Lake. ) Level School was grades 1-8th grade and
school was released early the day World War II
ended. Shirley graduated from Terreton Elementary
the same year Kyle graduated from Roberts High
School.
Kyle went to the military in 1953. He spent 2 years
in Germany during the Korean War. The Korean
War ended while Kyle was on a ship taking him to
Germany. Kyle met Shirley in November of 1952
before he deployed. They wrote letters during the
two years Kyle was in service. Kyle attended Ricks
College 1955-1957 to be a civil engineer. Kyle &
Shirley married September 1956.
Kyle purchased the Hamer farm from his parents
and they moved to Hamer 1957. Kyle began
working for U.S. Soil Conservation Service in 1959.
Kyle served as Finance Clerk when they built the
Hamer L.D.S. Church in 1965.
Shirley and Kyle moved to Terreton in 1971 and
purchased the farm they still reside on. Thru the
years Kyle has helped farmers in Mud Lake and
Clark soil conservation districts develop farms and
irrigation systems. Kyle was the Mud Lake Fair

Board to develop the Fat livestock show. The Fat
stock show had previously been done in Ririe.
Shirley worked for Wood Farms and Mud Lake
Exxon for 26 years. They raised 7 children. Besides

BRAND THE BUILDING
Come brand the building! Use your irons or electric
brand. For a onetime fee of $100 per brand, you can
have your brand put on the new concession building. We
will do this August 10th at 8:00 p.m. This will also be
ongoing tradition and a way to help maintain and complete the fair building projects. What a great way to
show your support.
Contact Lisa Shively for more information!
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO FEED AND WATER YOUR OWN ANIMALS.
YOUR ARE RESPONSIBLE TO CLEAN YOUR PENS AND THE AISLE BY YOUR PEN
ON A DAILY BASIS.
Thanks to all contributors to the concession buildings in the last few years. Your generosity has made it
possible to make these nice changes and upgrades to our fair buildings. The Mud Lake Fair Board has
also been working on getting grants as well. They have received two grants from CHC grants and
Northwest Farm Credit. They hope to continue to receive other grants as well to continue to make new
changes and upgrades. Donations are always being accepted. Contact a member of the Mud Lake Fair
Board if you are interested in donating.
