CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE, SUMMER WON’T STOP US!
Our summer program is designed to enrich the learning of our students, even when school is
not in session. The mission of this program is to provide opportunities for continued academic
and social growth. Through fun learning experiences delivered by a dedicated teaching staff,
the students will discover their talents, develop a love of learning, gain academic confidence,
and create new friendships.
The Rose Tree Media School District
Summer Program offers students engaging
and stimulating educational experiences.
These experiences are geared towards
fostering and promoting life long learning,
as well as empowering students in a fun,
safe, and enriching environment.
Students will participate in unique,
grade specific activities that will target the
desired physical and academic skills, as
well as promote creativity and higher order
thinking. The enthusiastic instructors of our
programs are members of the Rose Tree
Media School District family and are eager
to share their knowledge with their
students. During each session, students
are encouraged to strive for excellence,
while developing new friendships in a
collaborative setting.

ENRICHMENT CAMPS Enrichment Camps are week long programs that run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday, at Penncrest High School (except where noted otherwise). Many of these
camps are created by teachers based on student interest. The cost is $150.00 for the one

Animation I & II
In iPad Animation children will have the opportunity to learn a variety
of types of animation using the iPad. In addition to mastering the
fundamentals of iPad use, students will receive instruction and
create digital projects using Stop-motion, Time-lapse, Claymation
and Lego-motion animation formats. Come join the fun and find out
what happens when student’s creativity meets Apple technology.

Artists in the Making
This camp emphasizes fun exploration of various media. Students
can expect to be drawing, painting, using papier-mâché, tie-dying,
printing, stenciling, sewing, clay work, and much more!
Beginning Baking
Students will learn basic baking terms, measuring techniques, and
proper use of the oven. Recipes will include pumpkin bread in a jar,
mini apple pies, simple cake decorating and much more.
Cartoon and Graphic Novels
Is it your dream to become the next Seth MacFarlane or Art
Spiegelman? Whether you have only envisioned your cartoon
characters, but haven’t put pencil to paper, or if you have fully
developed drawings with no solid stories to bring them to life, you
Week 1: may want to take this workshop. This class will appeal to students

who have an interest in telling stories through cartoon characters that
they create from their imaginations or from personal experience.
Students will work on individual ideas and projects, and share them
for feedback and a sense of artistic collaboration!
Choir Camp
See what choir is like at the high school level! No previous musical
experience required. Students would be placed into voice parts and
read through exciting, fun repertoire that challenges and motivates
them to learn more about their voices! Students from the high school
would come and work with these students, encouraging and helping
them as they prepare for high school choir. At the end of the 2-week
course, students will perform in a relaxed, informal setting and record
their progress so that they can take home an mp3 of their music!

Week
Creative Writing Workshop
This class will appeal to students who have an interest in creative
writing. The class will focus on reading mentor texts. Students will
write a short story of their own using the creative writing techniques
learned from the mentor texts! This class will allow students to use
their creativity, imagination, and enhance their writing skills. It will be
engaging, interactive, and fun!

Does your child love to draw or paint? In this camp, your child will

learn the basics of drawing and painting by focusing on lines, texture,
shading and color choice to create still life drawings, perspective

FUNdamental Field Hockey
This introductory program is great for beginners and intermediate
players who want to work on their fundamental skill sets. This
program will prepare players entering grades 4-6 to participate in
play without the stress of having to perform and compete. It's all
about the FUN! We will teach the fundamentals around proper grip
and posture, ball control, receiving and trapping, passing and
tackling. Players will be coached by experienced staff who will
introduce young athletes to the great game of Field Hockey. This
Summer Camp is high energy and fun! Space is limited.
Golf Fundamentals
Drive, chip, putt!! Students interested in learning the fundamentals of
the greatest multi-seasonal game are invited to join this fun golf
introductory camp experience! Each day of camp is designed to
introduce and teach students the foundations of the life-long game
while participating in fun exercises and activities. Basic golf skills,
game and course rules, history, etiquette, club usage, sportsmanship
and swing will be emphasized. Last day of each session includes a
trip to a driving range at no additional cost to the student. Students
may bring their own clubs, but clubs will be provided. Space is
limited.

LEGO Robotics
Do you like robots? Have you been amazed by how NASA scientists
use robots to explore the landscapes of other planets? You will learn
how to build and program your very own LEGO Midstorms NXT
Robot. You will also design a robot to complete a specific challenge.
No prior experience necessary for LEGO robotics: introduction level.
The advanced level LEGO robotics explores more difficult
challenges. Participation in introductory LEGO robotics or prior
experience is preferred.

Middle School Math
Students interested in advancing a level in mathematics in order to

enroll in Algebra I in September of 2016, may complete this summer weeks:
enrichment course. The course, open to students entering 7th or 8th July 5-29
grade, will address pre-algebra concepts. Students must be serious
about their work and be prepared to do daily homework and
independent practice. Students will complete an assessment at the
end of the course to determine mastery of the content and readiness
for Algebra I. Completion of the course alone will not qualify students
for placement in Algebra I.

Mudworks: Clay for Beginners
Students will learn the basic ceramic skills of hand building. They will
create a project using slabs, coils and pinch pot techniques.
Week 3:
Students will glaze their pieces before taking home a wonderful and July 25-29
unique piece of fired functional ceramics!
Ready, Set, Wheel!
Students will get a 3-day crash course in throwing on the wheel. In
this class they will learn the basic process of throwing on the potters Week 2:
wheel as well as how to make a mug and a bowl. Once fired,

Enrichment Camps
Reading Rockets
Reading Rockets is a program designed to be an early intervention
for students going into first, second, or third grades. The goal of this
program is to provide additional support for students who could
benefit from reinforcement in reading skills over the summer.
Reading Rockets will help minimize the regression in skills that
sometimes occurs over summer vacation. Through this program,
students will experience a rich variety of materials that will provide
strong links to students’ reading curriculum. Need-based
scholarships may be available.
Rocketry
This course is a great introduction into the exciting world of rocketry.
This course explores the basic elements of flight and rocketry.
Participants will spend the week building and launching hot air
balloons and different kind of rockets, including a soda bottle rocket
and model rockets.
Simple Nutritious Snacks
Students will learn basic cooking terms, measuring techniques and
prepare nutritious snacks. Snacks will include Hawaiian Pizza,
granola, smoothies and many more.

Songwriting Workshop
This workshop would be for all 6th-12th graders interested in
learning more about songwriting. No previous musical experience is
required. Students would write their own original music, and gain

skills on the keyboard that allow them to become better musicians

and even self-accompany! This workshop is perfect for poets who
wish they knew more about how to put their words to music, or
experienced musicians who are stuck when it comes to writing lyrics.
Singers and non-singers alike are welcome!

Enrichment Camps
Summer Theatre
Rose Tree Media is excited about the talent of our students! To
provide an opportunity for students to improve and showcase these
talents, the district is holding a four week full day Musical Theatre
Camp during the summer of 2016. This camp is open to students
entering grades 4 through 12 and will run July 11 through August 5,
culminating with two performances of a Broadway Musical (TBD).
Through theatre workshops and coaching from experienced
directors, musical directors, choreographers, costumers, and
technical directors, children will be given the opportunity to explore
stage craft like never before. Your child's day will be full of acting,
vocal, and dance/movement rehearsals and workshops, theatre
games, and insight into how a musical is produced. This will be a
unique experience, so "act" now and register!
Note: Monday - Thursday (9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.) and Fridays (9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.)
Sports in Literature
Are you an avid sports fan? Do you wish there were more
opportunities to read about sports in school? Here’s your chance for
middle school students to read about their favorite sports athletes/
teams while practicing and strengthening reading comprehension
and writing skills. This class will explore universal themes found in
sports such as perseverance, determination, work ethic,
understanding commitment, setting and achieving goals, and
overcoming obstacles, through various sports literature including
newspaper/magazine articles, biographies, excerpts from nonfiction
books, and poetry. Choose the week that works best for you!
Tennis
Game, Set, Match! Students interested in learning or refining the
fundamentals of successful tennis are invited to join this fun camp
experience! Each day of camp is designed to teach and/or sharpen
skills while participating in creative games and activities. Basic tennis
strokes, rules of play, match etiquette, and match play will be
emphasized. Must bring your own tennis racquet. Space is limited.

World Language: French
Students in 4th or 5th grade can get a jump start on their World
Language study in a French Summer Enrichment Program! The
focus of these sessions will be based on conversational language
and will also include culture lessons, giving the students glimpses
into various French-Speaking countries.

HIGH SCHOOL COURSES FOR ORIGINAL CREDIT Once again, Penncrest High School will be offering Health and Physical Education
classes for original credit through our summer program. The dates and times are as follows:
Session I: July 5 - July 22
Physical Education (8:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.) @ Penncrest HighSchool

Session II: July 25 - August 11

Health and Physical Education classes will only be offered if a minimum number of
students register. Students entering grades 10-12 are eligible to take health and/or
physical education for original credit over the summer. The cost is $250.00/course.
Registrations begin on Monday, March 14. The
last day to register for Physical Education and
Health original credit courses is Friday, April 22.
Students must be registered and paid in full by
11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 22 to guarantee a
spot. No registrations/payments will be
considered after April 22.

HIGH SCHOOL REMEDIATION COURSES The following courses will be offered for remediation at Penncrest High School this
summer from 8:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. A student may only complete 1 course per session.
One Course - $250.00
Two Courses - $400.00
Half-credit remediation courses meet during the first half of each session. The cost of
semester remediation courses is $125.00/course.

MIDDLE SCHOOL REMEDIATION COURSES Students who do not pass mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts
are required to enroll in a remedial summer program in order to meet the minimum
promotion requirements. Students may enroll in a maximum of two courses. Courses
will meet face-to-face five times during the month of July. Each session will be two
hours in length. Students will be required to complete assignments outside of class in
between each session. These required assignments will constitute a minimum of
fifteen hours. In total, each course will require a minimum of 25 hours.
Courses will be scheduled during the period of July 5th through July 29th – 9 AM to 11 AM. Exact dates for each course will not be determined until the last day
of school. Once final grades are submitted, we will create a schedule that will allow
students to access any needed combination of courses in order to meet promotion
requirements. A letter will be mailed to parents at that time.

COURSE COSTS AND CANCELLATIONS
Please be aware that any course is subject to cancellation should there be insufficient
enrollment. You will be contacted should this unfortunate situation occur.
LIMITED ENROLLMENT
Please be aware that some courses have a limited enrollment for safety and staffing
reasons. You will be contacted if you need to be added to a waiting list.
TRANSPORTATION
All students attending the 2016 Summer Program will be required to provide
their own transportation. Please take note of the starting and ending times of all courses
carefully. Parents should pick their children up at the end of the class each day. If an
emergency occurs, phone 610-627-6203 for whatever aid may be necessary.
CANCELLATION DUE TO WEATHER OR EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCE
Please be aware that any course is subject to cancellation if there is a loss of power. If a
cancellation occurs, you will be notified using the contact information provided during
registration. No monies will be refunded.
SNACK BREAK
Food WILL NOT be provided by RTM Summer Program. Students are encouraged to bring
a small snack with them to their program. If students are attending a full-day program, they
should bring a lunch from home. There will be a 20-minute break provided daily.
DRESS
Shoes are required at all times. Please keep in mind the nature of the program that your
student is attending, in order to ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the activities.
BEHAVIOR
Students will be upheld to the same standards of behavior that are enforced during the
school year. Physical violence, inappropriate behavior and language will not be tolerated.
Any students who violate this policy will be removed from the RTM Summer Program
without a refund.
ADDITIONAL REMINDERS
Students are not permitted in any area of the building except where their RTM Summer
Program is being held. The school district is not responsible for loss of property.
