Die Ausstellung SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT! wirft spektakuläre Blitz

The exhibition SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT! reflects
a turbulent and legendary age in the history of
art, music, fashion and film, spectacularly caught
in the flashlight: the 1960s and ’70s. Decades of
upheaval, provocation and creative energy.
About 200 photographs from the impressive
Nicola Erni Collection from Switzerland take the
viewer right into the heart of the vibrant cultural
and party life in New York, London and Paris,
seen through the lens of the great photographers
of the day, from Diane Arbus and Richard
Avedon, Garry Winogrand, Annie Leibovitz to
Robert Mapplethorpe. They train their cameras
on Andy Warhol, The Beatles, Truman Capote,
Twiggy, Marlon Brando and other celebrities.
Rarely seen photos appear next to famous
iconic images. They illuminate the many facets of
the Swinging Sixties and Seventies: who partied
with whom; what collaborative creative partnerships were forged; where did the different art
scenes overlap; where did visual artists meet
musicians, directors, actors and actresses?
And what position did photographers assume in
this legendary network some of whom enjoyed
cult status over these two decades?
Today, it is hard to imagine the degree
of privacy revealed in this form in the images.
The publication of pictures is now subject to
tighter restrictions and more extensive controls
while at the same time, digital photography and
the social media offer a much more immediate
stream of images. In this respect the exhibition
points to the present and encourages us to reflect
on the world of images in the past and those
surrounding us today.

Die Ausstellung S H O OT ! S H O OT ! S H O OT ! wirft spektakuläre Blitzlichter auf eine turbulente und legendäre Epoche in der Geschichte
von Kunst, Musik, Mode und Film: Die 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre —
Jahrzehnte des Umbruchs, der Provokation und der kreativen Energie.
Rund 200 Fotografien aus der beeindruckenden Schweizer Nicola Erni
Collection führen an die Schauplätze New York, London und Paris,
mitten hinein in das pulsierende Kultur- und Partyleben. Man blickt
durch die Linse der großen Fotografinnen und Fotografen der Zeit von
Diane Arbus, über Richard Avedon, Garry Winogrand, Annie Leibovitz
bis zu Robert Mapplethorpe. Sie richteten ihre Kameras auf Andy Warhol, The Beatles, Truman Capote, Twiggy, Marlon Brando und andere
Berühmtheiten.
Bislang selten gezeigte Aufnahmen treten neben bekannte Bildikonen. Sie zeigen die vielfältigen Facetten der Swinging Sixties und
Seventies: Wer feierte mit wem, wer ging kreative Kollaborationen ein,
wo überschnitten sich die unterschiedlichen Kunstszenen, trafen bildende Künstler auf Musikerinnen, Regisseure und Schauspielerinnen?
Und welche Positionen nahmen die Fotografinnen und Fotografen, die
in jenen Jahrzehnten teilweise selbst Kultstatus genossen, in diesem
sagenumwobenen Netzwerk ein?
Heute ist die in den Aufnahmen gezeigte Privatheit in dieser
Form kaum noch vorstellbar. Die Veröffentlichung von Bildern unterliegt strikteren Auflagen und umfassender Kontrolle. Gleichzeitig ist
der Bilderfluss im Zeitalter von digitaler Fotografie und Social Media
um ein Vielfaches unmittelbarer geworden. So weist die Ausstellung
gleichermaßen in die Gegenwart und regt zum Nachdenken über vergangene und uns heute umgebende Bildwelten an.
