18th Phoenix Ride for Kids Fundraiser
Motorcyclists at the 18th Phoenix
Ride for Kids raised $22,990 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation by ride
time on Oct. 19.
Nearly 170 riders attended the event
at Higley High School in Gilbert, Ariz.,
to honor seven local Stars, brain tumor
survivors Brock, Ellie, Gaites, Keegan,
Leslie, Rosalena, and Sabrina. They also
led the ride from Higley High School.
The weather was warm and sunny for
the 56-mile, non-stop, police-escorted
ride; which traveled to the shores of Saguaro Lake in The Tonto National Forest
and back. After the ride, participants were
treated to a box lunch while they enjoyed
the Shining Star Celebration. There was
education about the disease, top fundraisers were recognized, and area childhood
brain tumor patients were interviewed.
“I’m very grateful to everyone raising
the money for research,” Ellie’s mom,
Claire, told the riders. “The treatments
are a decade old so research is very important in moving forward.”
Star Rosie told the crowd, “Thanks
everybody for coming out and donating,
raising the money, and for the ride itself.”
As of Oct. 19, the individuals, motorcycle club/chapter and motorcycle business with the most raised were Keith and
Annie Salyer ($2,500), GWRRA AZ-A

($4,390) and RideNow Powersports
($5,180).
Jim Theobold won the drawing for a
new Honda motorcycle and a Cardo Scala
Rider TeamSet.
Many thanks to Betsy Coon Pancoast
and Paul Trinker, the dedicated volunteers
who organized the event.
Ride for Kids National Campaign
Manager Michael Beaver commented,
“The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation
is so grateful Phoenix-area motorcyclists
have joined us in the battle against childhood brain tumors for the past 18 years.
Each day, thirteen children in the United
States are diagnosed with a brain tumor,
and the research funds motorcyclists have
helped raise through Ride for Kids is
making a huge difference in the lives of
these kids and their families.”
Making life better for ‘Ride for Kids’
Stars is the reason motorcyclists across
the country ride for the PBTF, which
funds medical research and family support programs to help eliminate the challenges of childhood brain tumors.
The 2015 Phoenix Ride for Kids®
is scheduled for October 18, 2015. Visit
their website at www.curethekids.org to

Blonde at the Super Bowl
A guy took his blonde girlfriend to the Super Bowl game.
They had great seats right behind their team’s bench.
After the game, he asked her how she liked it.
“Oh, I really liked it,” she replied, “especially the tight
pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn’t understand why they
were killing each other over 25 cents.”
Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, “What do you mean?”
“Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the
game, all they kept screaming was...
‘Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!’”
“I’m like...Helloooooo? It’s only 25 cents!”

•
Obtain a copy of your service medical records prior to
discharge. Do not take any shortcuts when separating and do this
immediately. Any idea of hurrying to get home may cost you time and
money should you require VA Healthcare at any time in the future.
•
A veteran has two years, after separation, to apply for medical
conditions that are a result of their service in the military. After two
years the process becomes more difficult.
•
If you require medical assistance from the VA after separation/
discharge, bring with you a copy of your medical records, a copy of
your DD-214, and two forms of picture identification.
•
Any injury or illness incurred while serving on active duty as a
regular, reservist, or Federalized member of the National Guard needs
to be noted in your medical records.
•
Enroll in the VA IMMEDIATELY. Do Not Procrastinate!!
Know your rights and your responsibilities. If you are not sure, ASKASK-ASK-ASK-ASK!!! Ensure that your transition is smooth. Know
what you need to do, and DO IT!

MINNESOTA ANTI-PROFILING
MEASURE INTRODUCED
A proposed anti-profiling bill before
the Minnesota House would create rules
to reduce perceived profiling of motorcycle riders and would require several law
enforcement groups to draft anti-profiling practices when dealing with the riders.
Once drafted, law enforcement agencies would then have to train every officer and verify that with the state.
House File 59, “Motorcycle Profiling,” was filed on January 12, 2015 in
the state House of Representatives and
referred to the Public Safety and Crime
Prevention Policy and Finance Committee, and the bill stems from claims that
police have been pulling over motorcyclists without reasonable cause: “Purpose. The legislature finds that the reality
or public perception of motorcycle profil-
ing alienates people from police, hinders
community policing efforts, and causes
law enforcement to lose credibility and
trust among the people law enforcement
is sworn to protect and serve. No stop initiated by a peace officer should be made
without a legitimate reason; the fact that
someone rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle paraphernalia is not a legitimate
reason. Law enforcement policies and
training programs must emphasize the
need to respect the balance between the
rights of all persons to be free from unreasonable governmental intrusions and
law enforcement’s need to enforce the
law.”
The measure defines “motorcycle
profiling” as “(T)he illegal use of the fact
that a person rides a motorcycle or wears
motorcycle-related accouterments as a
factor in deciding to stop and question,
take enforcement action, arrest, or search
a person or vehicle with or without a legal basis under the United States Constitution or Minnesota Constitution.”
HF 59 is co-sponsored by Rep. John
Petersburg (R-Waseca) who said that he
signed on to the bill in part because he
heard claims of profiling on the campaign
trail. In October, he attended a forum
hosted by American Bikers for Aware-
AZ Rider
on web, click title to visit site
ness, Training and Education, or ABATE.
“Because they’re riding motorcycles and
wearing motorcycle gear, they’re getting
stopped,” Petersburg said.
A representative for ABATE of Minnesota told the Owatonna People’s Press
that an anti-profiling bill was among the
group’s top legislative priorities. Minnesota was the first and only state in the
country to enact a biker anti-discrimination law; Minnesota Statute Section
604.12, enacted in 1998 states in part: “A
place of public accommodation may not
restrict access, admission, or usage to a
person solely because the person operates a motorcycle or is wearing clothing
that displays the name of an organization
or association.”
S.C. BILL AIMS TO REQUIRE
CHILD SAFETY SEATS AND BELTS
ON MOTORCYCLES
A bill that would require babies and
small children to be secured to a motorcycle with seat belts is under consideration by South Carolina lawmakers.
S.C. state Rep. Joseph Daning
(R-Berkely Co.) filed legislation (H.
3040) that would require a standard,
rear-facing child safety seat to be used

for motorcycle passengers from birth up
to 1 year of age, and for a belt-positioning booster seat with both lap and shoulder belts for children younger than 7 and
weighing 40-80 pounds. “We take care
of our children in cars, but they’re so unprotected on the back of motorcycles”
said Daning, who added that the bill was
prompted by constituents who feared an
ex-spouse would ride their children on a
motorcycle.
Rep. Bill Taylor called Daning’s proposal “government overreach” and said
motorcyclists are a safety-conscious
community, but child-safety advocates
support Daning’s efforts. Only a handful of states impose a minimum age for
riders, and South Carolina is not one of
them according to the Children’s Trust
of South Carolina, pointing out that 25
children required emergency medical attention due to motorcycle injuries in the
state from 2007 through 2009.
ABATE of SC state coordinator,
Ralph Bell, emphasized that there have
been no fatalities of passengers under 7,
and said changing the law would hinder
charity events. Dennis Welborn, the state
legislative coordinator for ABATE told
the Morris News Service that “Its pas-
sage would cause much more harm than
good,” and in particular, mounting a child
safety seat on a motorcycle would change
its center of gravity, making it unwieldy,
affecting its handling and braking abilities.
MSF CONTRACTED TO MANAGE
INDIANA MOTORCYCLIST
SAFETY PROGRAM
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation
has been awarded a four-year contract by
the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to
provide motorcycle training, beginning
March 1, 2015. The contract award marks
the end of the state’s training relationship
with ABATE of Indiana, which had been
training riders since the 1970s. According to Jay Jackson, ABATE executive director, more than 125,000 students completed its courses during that time. The
ABATE board of directors voted not to
renew its contract.
The MSF will oversee Indiana’s statewide training locations, provide an Indiana-dedicated website and online class
enrollment function and administer all
aspects of training, including MSF’s extensive quality control program.
Indiana law requires would-be mo-
9
torcycle riders to first obtain a learner’s
permit, and then pass a motorcycle skills
test or present a certificate of completion
from a BMV-approved motorcycle safety course. After March 1, Hoosiers who
pass the MSF Basic RiderCourse will
not need to take Indiana’s on-cycle skills
exam.
“We’d like to recognize ABATE of
Indiana for their achievements in providing motorcycle training over the past
several years through the state’s network
of training sites and trainers,” said MSF
Vice President Robert Gladden.
More than 7.5 million riders internationally have completed motorcycle
training using MSF’s curricula in the
foundation’s 40-plus year history.
VEHICLE DATA PRIVACY
CONCERNS VOICED IN MONTANA
A Montana House panel recently
heard a bill to give vehicle owners more
control over the large stores of information now accumulated by newer cars
and trucks, and motorcycles. House
Bill 78, sponsored by Rep. Ryan Lynch
(D-Butte), would give vehicle owners
more control of that data by codifying

provisions stating that only owners, lessees and authorized representatives can
gain access to recorded data in the event
of a crash.
Insurance companies already make
use of telemetrics -- the many pieces of
data that reflect driving habits -- but insurance lobbyists say they’re willing to
sit down with supporters and hammer
out a bill that’s agreeable to everyone.
This is just one of several privacy
bills the Montana Legislature will consider this session and, if enacted, the law
would become the nation’s strongest
driver-privacy act.
GLOBAL MOTORCYCLE MARKET
PROJECTED TO EXPAND
The worldwide demand for motorcycles is forecasted to grow by 6% annually
to over 132 million units by 2018, valued
at $120 billion, according to a 502-page
study released this past December by
Freedonia Market Research.
Four major trends will drive growth
through 2018: 1- An increasing number
of households in industrializing countries will be able to afford motorcycles
as personal incomes rise. 2- Sales of
electric bicycles (e-bikes) and other electric models are projected to rise sharply
outside of China from what are currently
very modest levels of demand. 3- Motorcycle sales in a number of countries
will be spurred by government programs
aimed at reducing environmental pollution caused by automobiles. 4- Market
advances will accelerate in a number of
important markets such as Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, the U.S., and Vietnam.
However, further gains will be restrained by slowing growth in China, the
world’s leading market for motorcycles,
because of the large number of motorcycles already in use there. Market gains
will also be dampened due to substitution
by consumers of light vehicles for motorcycles in China and other industrializing
countries.
MOTORCYCLE INJURIES &
FATALITIES ON DECLINE
The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) has announced
that motorcycle fatalities have dropped
for the second year in a row, representing
the largest drop in fatalities for any road
user. According to the Fatality Analysis
Reporting System, motorcycle fatalities
for 2013 dropped from 4,986 to 4,668;
and the 6.4% decrease was the largest
percentage drop of all vehicle categories.
AZ Rider
Fatal motorcycle crashes involving
alcohol dropped by 117 deaths, or 8.3%,
also the largest decrease in the category.
NHTSA also reported a drop in the
number of injured motorcyclists from
93,000 to 88,000, a 5.4% drop, again the
largest decrease in the category.
Motor vehicle fatalities overall decreased by 3.1% from 2012-2013 and injuries declined 2.1%.
FEDERAL LEGISLATION
REINTRODUCED TO CURB
MOTORCYCLE-ONLY
CHECKPOINTS
Motorcycle-only checkpoints would
be discouraged under a bipartisan bill reintroduced January 8, 2015 by a group of
senators in the new 114th Congress. The
bill would prohibit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from
issuing grants to states to fund motorcycle-only checkpoints.
Sponsoring senators say such roadblocks are discriminatory, where riders are specifically targeted by police
to check that their vehicles meet state
standards for noise, handlebar height,
tire condition and other requirements, including helmet compliance.

CONGRESSIONAL BILL CALLS
FOR ETHANOL STUDY
Once again, on January 6, 2015, U.S.
Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) reintroduced a bill in the new Congress calling for further study of ethanol and its
effect on internal combustion engines.
H.R. 21 would repeal the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s waiver
decision related to E15 fuel and the authority of the agency to grant further decisions in the matter, until the EPA seeks
an independent scientific analysis of the
effects of gasoline containing up to 15%
ethanol.
Sensenbrenner said, “Our constituents
use boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles,
cars, lawnmowers and tractors. They deserve to definitively know what E15 will
do to the engines they rely upon.”
No motorcycles or ATVs are currently
on the approved EPA list for E15 use, and
the use of E15 can void manufacturers’
warranties.
WEIRD NEWS: YOUTUBE VIDEO
LEADS TO STUNT RIDER ARREST
A cop couldn’t corral dozens of reckless riders who took over a California
highway, performing dangerous stunts
and taunting the officer, but the marauders left an obvious trail on social media.
One stunter, armed with cameras
mounted on the front of his motorcycle
and helmet, filmed what turned out to be
incriminating evidence that later led to
his arrest.
The video, posted to YouTube and
garnering over 1.5 million views, shows
several brazen bikers popping high speed
wheelies and buzzing a California High-
11
way Patrolman, who is also on a motorcycle and attempting to pull over one
or more riders before giving up due to
safety concerns. As the officer backs
off, bikers are seen exuberantly pumping their fists in the air in a short-lived
victory celebration.
Three weeks later, following an internet trail including personal information
posted in social forums, police busted
the 32-year old stunt rider who recorded
-- and shared -- video of the wild ride
and arrested him at his house in Brentwood on felony accessory and obstruction charges, as well as a marijuana grow
operation in his home.

HOGtoberFest XXVI
12
HOGtoberFest is an annual event hosted by Tucson Harley-Davidson and their
HOG [Harley Owners Group] Chapter.
The dealership is located at 7355 N I-10
EB Frontage Rd. [NW corner of I-10 &
Ina Rd.]
HOGtoberFest XXVI, held October
25, 2014, was a fundraiser for both Tucson HOG and the American Diabetes Association.
Our thanks go to HOGtoberFest’s
Chairperson Laura Lytle, for her input
toward this report.
For those who chose to make the trek,
the Poker Run started & ended at Tucson
H-D. There were between 250-300 people registered for the poker run, which is
a record number for HOGtoberFest. The
ride was a nice scenic route through the
Tucson Mountains: Gates Pass, McCain
Loop, and Picture Rocks. Tucson HOG
members manned the poker stops along
the way. Unfortunately, the names of the
ride winners weren’t available by the
time of this writing; but the prizes were
Grand $500, Second $200, & Consolation $100 ~ so you know they each went
home pretty happy ☺
The after-party at THD was packed
with people. It was a very busy day. Activities included an H-D fashion show
and then a bikini contest w/ a $300 prize.
There were quite a few gals in the competition. It would have been tough to be
a judge. A dj was set up inside the dealership, which was arranged by Tucson
Harley-Davidson; who also arranged the
bikini contest and fashion show. Vendors included sponsor Law Tigers. There
was a considerable collection of raffles
items. Games included the Slow Race,
Road Kill Clean Up, Drag Race (hugely
popular, as men had to dress in women’s
clothing, and vice versa, on a timed relay), and the ever-popular Weenie Bite.
For the day’s grand finale, Tucson Harley
Davidson and Miller gave away a Harley
Street 500 motorcycle, which was won
by Beck Fonteno.
This event is Tucson HOG’s annual
and only fundraiser for their organization. ADA received the funds from the
beer and food sales. After expenses and
giving out prize money, close to $3,400
was raised. This was again a record for
HOGtoberFest.
Laura shared this message, “First and
foremost, I want to thank Tucson Harley
AZ Rider
Davidson, who made the day possible in
so many ways. They are extremely supportive of our club year round, and make
it possible for us to have events like
HOGtoberFest. As the chairperson for
HOGtoberFest for the past two years, I
have learned a lot, and the event became
my pride and joy. It’s such an amazing
feeling, to look around on the day of the
event, and see all the people enjoying
themselves. All of the work and stress
pays off, in that moment, when you see
how everything comes together. Two
years in a row, I have been blown away
by the participation and volunteers who
stepped forward.” She went on to extend,
“A huge thank you to all our volunteers
for the poker run, raffle tables, registration, bike show, parking, bike games, etc.
They all made the day what it was, and I
thank them so much!”
Congratulations on a VERY successful day! Thank you for sharing your news
with us.

10.11.14… The 6th Annual AZ
Awareness Ride was hosted by BACA
on October 11, 2014. For those
who are unfamiliar with BACA, it
stands for Bikers Against Child
Abuse. This day’s ride departed
from Chandler H-D, with breakfast being served by Foothills
HOG. There were between 250 300 participants. Thank you to
Nytro, for helping with this report.
After leaving Chandler HD,
the route had stops at What the
Hell Bar & Grill in East Mesa,
the Heart & Soul Café in Cave
Creek, the Hide-A-Way in Cave
Creek, and the Steel Horse Saloon in Phoenix. The end stop &
party was at the AAI (Arizona
Automotive Institute) in Glendale; co-hosted by Max’s Sports
Bar & Restaurant.
There was a car show [including a display of Shriner’s mini-
cars], family-friendly
games,
vendors, & a silent auction. The
Shriners also provided free identity packets for children that
included finger printing and photographs. Music was provided by
KSLX till 2pm & then a DJ donated
their time. Unfortunately, as of
this writing, I do not have their
name to share.
There were over 100 raffle
items, and a 50/50 draw. Raffle
tickets were also available for
a 2015 Soft Tail Slim; with the
drawing held on December 24th.
The winner of the bike was Sparky
from Tucson. Congratulations &
Merry Christmas to you!
The day raised about $9,000
with all proceeds going to support abused kids! Outstanding!
Nytro sent along a note, to
thank all the businesses involved. “Especially AAI & Max’s
because without what they did,
we wouldn’t have been successful. They did all the filing for
the city of Glendale, paid for
road closure for bike parking,
license fees, KSLX, & allowed
us to use their lot for free,
as well as put on the car show.
They made this run a success for
the 3rd year now. Also a crew of
young people from the Levi store
came in to volunteer their time
to help at the booths with the

kids games.
All the vendors,
without them it wouldn’t have
been as successful also. All my
B.A.C.A. Brothers & Sisters from
the Maricopa County & Pima Chapters.”
Nytro went on to say, “I could
only hope that each year it gets
bigger and bigger.
There are
a lot of events out there that
are huge and very successful &
worthy causes. I just pray people will see that our children
who are abused, raped, & murdered are just as important to
support. Someday, we’ll get big
enough to sustain a camp to send
our wounded lil brothers & sisters to be a kid for at least a
weekend, once a year, that’s my
biggest dream.
“I have been a member with
B.A.C.A. now going on 7 years.
We are saddened though by the
lack of interest of people to
do right by these kids.
Many
runs are successful for children
with cancer, boob runs, even animals…. ALL great causes, but
for some reason people turn a
blind eye to abuse of children….
It really is sad…. So we hope
each year people will see that
what B.A.C.A. does, is just as
incredibly needed and the cause
is beyond a need for people to

Our children are our future Americans,

11.15.14 … The Original Wild
Women of the West Motorcycle
Ride took place on November 15,
2014. Superstition Harley-Davidson, located at 2910 W. Apache
Trail in Apache Junction was the
gathering point.
“The Wild Women Of The West is a
non-profit organization of horsewomen dedicated to preserving the
history of the women who lived
in the 1800’s (Wild West Period) to the 1915 Rodeo Cowgirls.”
This is a charitable women’s riding group, dedicated to keeping
these women of history alive for
future generations.
21 riders from Superstition
HD, along with several Wild Women who also ride motorcycles,
rolled toward the Roadrunner in
New River. A steak fry dinner was
included in the ride fee. Entertainment included listening to
the house band and watching bull
riding. Additional Wild Women of
the West & other event supporters met up with the pack at the
RoadRunner; for a total of about
88 participants.
The ride took about an hour.
The route was altered slightly

due to a freeway closure; taking
the 60 to the 10 and then up 17
to the New River turn off.
The ride winner was determined
by drawing a name from the ride
tickets. The winner was Tom Gade
and he got his ride and dinner
free. The 50/50 raffle was won by
Derek Czudak, for $117 dollars.
There was a drawing for a rifle as well, a Springfield Armory
30-06 donated by Brian Galley of
Apache Junction. Congratulations
to each of these winners. Thank
you to Brian for your donation.
This day’s beneficiary
was
‘Horses Help’. The event collected a donation of $1000. At
their website www.horseshelp.org
I learned that “Horses Help is

serves the special needs population by providing activities
to empower them to break through
physical, cognitive and emotional barriers using a unique collaboration of horses and people
within Arizona’s ‘Valley of the

Thanks go out to Copper Sun
Construction for their additional sponsorship. My thanks to Ellie Springfield, aka Wild Woman
Frenchy McCormick, for her help
with this report. As an organizer she shared that, “We will be
making this into an annual ride
and hopefully gain momentum each
year.”

The 20th annual ‘Frosty Balls &
Chilly Boobs’ New Years Day Ride,
hosted by MMA-AZ’s Verde Valley
District was called on account
of snow. Yes the event posting
said “rain, shine, or snow” but
we’re talking MAJOR snow. The FB
posting title says it all “‘MMA
Frosty Balls Run 19, Mother Nature 1’… Unfortunately, we are
canceling run tomorrow as we already have at least 4 inches of
snow and it’s still coming down.
Mother Nature you win…” There was
no way to safely make the ride
work.
But that didn’t slow down those
who wanted to celebrate the New
Year together AND fulfill a promise to the Verde Valley Community
Hospice Foundation ~ the event’s
beneficiary. Kactus Kate’s in Old
Town Cottonwood still hosted the
ride’s end party, starting at

1pm. The band ‘Inexile’ played
and about 40 people attended.
From MMA-VVD’s FB page, “Thank
you for celebrating with us at
the end party. We were happy to
present Sari Fleischer, Executive Director Verde Valley Community Hospice with a check for
$207, not bad for a canceled run.
Special thanks to all our supporters. Great way to start the
New Year.” Indeed. WELL done!
Deb Althouse, MMA VVD Secretary shared, “We never could
have imagined that much snow in
our little town at 3400 feet.
The city doesn’t even own snowplows and we got over a foot.”

Speaking of snow ~ WE had snow
~ about a half-hour / maybe more
on New Year’s Eve in East Mesa.
There was a good ½-inch to clear
off the cars. Not much compared
to our friends in the high country… but noteworthy to us who
haven’t seen the stuff in years
~ lol.

Our trips to Motorcycles on
Main are sometimes ‘official’ and
other times, just plain ‘for
fun’. ☺ Activities are back on
Main Street, having been relocated to a side street during a
road construction phase. We’ve
heard some good music; plus seen
a lot of bikes, Independent riders, and Organizations represented over the past few months.
Our last outing, Jan 2nd was
blinkin’ COLD ~ 48° and dropping
as we left the house. But we’re
glad we went as we saw some people we hadn’t in a while. Round
me up some hot chocolate and I’m
a happy camper ☺ Turnout was
okay despite the cold.
The bands coming up in March
are ‘Krimson Chord’ in the Main
Beer Garden & ‘Me & My Brother’
at Mangos. The weather will be better for
night riding, now that ‘winter’
in the flatlands has passed. So we
hope to see lot of you out there.
MoM is held the first Fridays of
each month, except July & August. It’s always a good time.

AMA Vintage Grand Tour 2015 Includes Phoenix, AZ
rewards road-rider
spectators at AMA vintage
races
Jan. 29, 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Media contact: James Holter
Phone: (614) 856-1900, ext. 1280
E-mail: [email protected]
PICKERINGTON,
Ohio
-- The American Motorcyclist
Association is announcing the 2015 AMA Vintage
Grand Tour, which will reward participating road
riders for attending AMA-sanctioned vintage competition events.
“No two motorcyclists are alike, except for the
fact that we respect each others’ rides,” said AMA
Road Riding Manager Chris Harrison. “The AMA
Vintage Grand Tour is our way to encourage road
riders to rack up more miles, as well as step back
in time by checking out one of motorcycling’s coolest disciplines -- vintage racing.”
Competition events on the AMA Vintage Grand
Tour calendar include motocross, hare scrambles,
dirt track and road racing in 12 states. Additional
events may be added.
“AMA-sanctioned vintage racing is expanding
into new geographical areas, such as Arizona Cycle Park, outside of Phoenix, Ariz., and the famous
Monster Mountain facility, in Tallassee, Ala.,” said
AMA Assistant Motocross Manager Alex Hunter.
“AMA promoters are increasingly embracing vintage racing, where racers young and old compete
on bikes from decades past to relive old memories and make new ones. The competition may be
more laid back, but it’s no less exciting, particularly
when the atmosphere echoes the 1990s, ‘80s, ‘70s
and beyond.”
Hunter, who coordinates sanctioned vintage
racing for the AMA, added that the $10 fee for a
new-for-2015 optional Friday practice at the AMA
Vintage Grand Championship will be waived for
racers who compete in at least one AMA Vintage
Grand Tour event prior to the July 10-12 event.
Road riders who wish to participate in the
AMA Vintage Grand Tour need to register at www.
americanmotorcyclist.com/AMAVintageGrandTour.
Once registered, riders will receive an email confirmation from the AMA Road Riding Department.
Registered riders will earn points by submitting
photos of themselves and their motorcycles on location at each event on the AMA Vintage Grand
Tour calendar. Photos not submitted within seven
days of the AMA Vintage Grand Tour event will be
accepted only at the discretion of the AMA Road
Riding Department.
At the end of the year, registered road riders
will win prizes in a number of categories. Prize details and complete rules are available at the AMA
Vintage Grand Tour web page.
Registration for the AMA Vintage Grand Tour is
AZ Rider
free. However, participating riders are expected to
pay any applicable gate fee or spectator fee charged
by the promoter of each event they attend.

Polaris Acquires Electric Motorcycle Business from Brammo
Acquisition Includes
Certain Assets, Technology,
and Trademarks
January 15, 2015 03:00PM PST
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE:
PII) today announced it has acquired
the electric motorcycle business of
Brammo Inc. In addition, Polaris is acting as a leading investor in a recapitalization of Brammo that enables the
company to focus exclusively on the
design, development and integration
of electric vehicle powertrains.
Going forward, the two companies
will leverage Polaris’ leading position
in the global powersports industry to
market a variety of electric vehicles
utilizing Brammo’s award winning lithium-ion electric drivetrain technology,
while freeing Brammo to continue developing its innovative electric vehicle
powertrains. Brammo supplies these
products, including the Brammo Power™ battery pack and Brammo Power™ vehicle management systems,
globally to a wide range of OEMs. As
part of this transaction, Polaris will utilize the assets acquired to begin manufacturing electric motorcycles in the
second half of 2015 at its Spirit Lake,
IA facility.
“We have enjoyed our involvement
with Brammo Motorcycles over the
past three years, and our excitement
about their industry-leading lithium-ion
electric drivetrain technology has increased commensurate with their improvements in cost and performance.
Polaris and Brammo share a goal of
adding the most advanced and highest
capability electric solutions to Polaris’
portfolio of leading powersports products,” said Scott Wine, Polaris Chairman and CEO. The agreement allows
both companies to be more agile during
the development cycle with clear accountability toward selling products
that exemplify Polaris’ standard for delivering world class vehicles.
Polaris has been a strategic investor and partner with Brammo since
2011. During that time, the companies
have collaborated on a number of projects in motorcycles, off-road and onroad vehicles. “Today’s announcement
strengthens not only Polaris’ commitment to bringing our consumers lithium-ion electric solutions, but also this
partnership’s ability to continue innovating and developing leading electric
drivetrain technology,” said Wine. “We
anticipate a return on these investments and believe the new alignment
brings us that much closer to delivering
world-class electric solutions across
our products.”
Brammo has designed and developed numerous electric vehicles, including the award-winning Enertia and
Empulse motorcycles. Testifying to its
