Technical Magazine. This is the time where we have introduces new
educational systems, ultra-superior infrastructure and interactive
classrooms which have been integrated with tools and technology of
teaching by keeping the only purpose in mind to effect all around
development of students and make them good techno-engineers. It is our
indispensable mission to fulfill student’s requirements and prepare
efficient engineer managers capable to lead out nation towards the path of

Greetings faculties and friends!
It gives an immense pleasure to congratulate department newsletter
committee of our department for releasing Bi-annual department Newsletter.
During year 2014-15, various extracurricular activities were conducted
successfully by Civil Engineering department like Organization of workshops, paper
publication & presentation by staff members in National/International journals
having international recognition. In the academic year 2014-15 our departmenthas
commenced PG course in Construction and Management..
Participation of Civil Engineering studentsin various technical events
organized by various colleges in Shivaji University wasencouraging and team work
ofstudents andstaff members was an encouragingfactor,which we wantto continue
in comingyears also. Our students have got top prizes in these competitions. Also
various projects byfinal yearstudents are as per present requirementsof industries.

Department Activities
Department of Civil Engineering started PG programme in Construction &
Management M.E. (C&M)
Department of Civil Engineering is proud to announce that it
ME CM
has started PG programme in Construction & Management.
M.E. (C&M) has approval from AICTE and affiliation from
Shivaji University Kolhapur with sanctioned intake of 18 students.
The Government of Maharashtra followed Central Admission
Process (CAP) for admission to all PG courses in all the affiliated
institutions, considering the GATE marks as criteria for merit list.
To the honor of department all seats were filled in first round
itself. From the admitted students one student is Gate qualified
student.
On 18th August Induction program was conducted for newly
admitted students starting by welcoming them. Department head
Prof. A. V. Karvekar gave a brief introduction about the department
followed by rules and regulations of institute as well as Shivaji
university Kolhapur.

facilitated the induction program and managed interaction of
students with regular PG staff Asst. Prof. G. S. Murgude and Asst.
Prof. K. R. Patil.
Asst. Prof. G. S. Murgude and Asst. Prof. K. R. Patil gave a brief
introduction about the syllabus of ME C&M first year subjects
followed by interaction with students. Interaction was very smooth
and helped students to understand theimportance of PG course for
their bright future.
In the interaction session students were free to share their
views on PG course which helped all to get conversant with each
other and the teaching staff.
Finally with lot of expectations from students as well as
institute, welcome function was concluded by Asst. Prof. G. S.
Murgude.
CESA celebrates Teachers Day on 5th September 2014
When Dr. S. Radhakrishnan became the President of India,
some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to
celebrate his birthday, 5 September. He replied, "Instead of
celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5
September is observed as Teachers' Day."
His birthday has since been celebrated as Teachers' Day in
India.
Dr. S. Radhakrishnan's dream was "Teachers should be the
best minds in the country".
On this auspicious day CESA organized various functions to
honor the teachers in Civil Engineering Department.CESA member
Ms. Welcomed all teaching and non teaching staff and students of
B.E. Civil felicitated all the staff by presenting bouquets and flowers.
It was a happy moment for teachers when they received statue of
Lord Ganesh as gift.
Students organized some funny games for teachers such as
“Do you know him?” following with interaction. The interaction
session gave students opportunity to look into the perspective of
individual teacher. Also an opportunity was given to fellow students
to express their views on the importance of teachers in every body’s
life. Mr. AmbajiSawant, Ms. Monika Mote, Mr. Amar Khose and
many others expressed their views. Mr. MangeshTavate student of
B.E. Civil was humorous in his speech on teachers.
Head, Prof. A. V. Karvekar, in his speech emphasized on the
importance of teachers by telling a short story which touched
everybody’s heart.
P. G. Coordinator Prof. S. K. Patil expressed his views followed
by Prof J. M. Shinde and Prof. K. R. Patil explaining the importance of
Training and placement in the life of student.
The function was well organized by students and it was an
honor to the teachers.
Department of Civil Engineering Conducts Syllabus Setting Workshop
Syllabus Setting Workshop for TE
Civil on 06th September 2014
The workshop titled “NEW TRENDS IN CURRICULUM
DEVELOPMENT FOR T.E. CIVIL ENGINEERING PROGRAMME” was
conducted on 6/09/2014 at AMGOI, Vathar. Workshop was
organized by department of Civil Engineering and sponsored by
Shivaji University for setting the curriculum of Third Year (TE) Civil
Engineering. Total no. of participants were 62, and dignitaries who
addressed and attended were Dr. S. M. sawant, Dean
Engineering,Shivaji university, Dr. P.S. Patil, BOS-Civil Engineering,
SU, Dr. H.S. Jadhav, Dr. M. M. Muzumdar and Dr. P. D. Kumbhar
members of BOS, SU and Prof. V.S. Patil were among the guest.

help of all faculties of civil engineering department
Survey Project – I
Shivaji University, Kolhapur in its curriculum, specify to conduct a mini project for subject Surveying.
Prof. S. A. Jangam took up the project for SE Div – A and SE Div – B o 11th Sept 2014. The project was
carried out in groups of 20 students on the ground near the institute.
This exercise gave immense confidence to the students for surveying on natural ground for road project.
CESA organized Blood Donation Camp on 15th September 2014
Every year, 15 September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in
India in memory of Sir MokshagundamVisvesvaraya. As part of the
celebrations of the Engineers Day, a blood donation camp was
organised by CESA with the help of Sanjeevan Blood Bank, Kolhapur
here on Monday.
Inaugurating the camp, Dr. D. N. Mudgal, Executive director of
the Shri Balasaheb mane Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Ambap, lauded
the spirit of the Students and staff to serve society by organising
blood donation camps.
Dignitaries present were, Dr. K. Ravi, Director of the AMGOI,
Dr. S. S. Patil, Principal, AMCOP, Vadgaon, and other staff members
of Civil Engineering department.
During the blood donation camp 302 units of blood was
collected. Department staff also donated blood on the occasion to
support the cause.
CESA organized FRESHERS PARTY for SE Civil 2014-15
Every year students of Civil Engineering; Welcome students
new admitted to the department in SE by conducting a welcome
function through CESA.
This year on 16th September the function was held. Students
of TE and BE called for some funny games for their new
friends.Some competitions were organised to judge Mr. and Ms.
Fresher. Mr. Vishal Yadhav and Ms. VarshaTalungade were
pronounced Mr. & Ms. Fresher of Civil Engineering Department, the
response for the competition was overwhelming and tough
competition preceded their win.

Advanced Engineering Geology Study visit to mines in Goa
On 26th and 27th September students of class BE were taken for visit
to study mines in Goa. Prof. D. B. Ghag facilitated the visit.
The study tour began from Vathar and reached to Goa via
ambolighat. The Return journey was started from Goa to Vathar via
Phondaghat.
The Objectives of study tourwere
1] To observe, understand and learn the various applications of
civil engineering in mining industries.
2] To study the various geological aspects in construction.
3] To learn more about existing geological structures, rock types
in actual field.
Locations visited were
1) Near Ramling temple, Ajara,
2) At beginning of Ambolighat
3) At Amboli waterfall
4) On roadside at Pedane on NH-17 highway
5) At Baga beach in Goa
6) At Chirak silica mine Phonda
Study Visit to STP at Ichalkaranji
On 29thSeptember students of class TE were taken for visit to study Sewage Treatment Plant in
Ichalkaranji. Prof. Ms. S. M. Name facilitated the visit.
Civil Engineering Department Contributes to Swatcchh Bharat Abhiyan
Department of Civil Engineering along with its students participated in Swatcchh Bharat Abhiyan an
initiative taken by Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India on the occasion of Birth ceremony of
Father of India Mr. M. K. Gandhi.
On 2nd October Faculty along with students cleaned the periphery of the institute. The program was held
under NSS at institute level. Prof. K. R. Patil of Civil Engineering department facilitated the “Swatcchh
Bharat Abhiyan” in the institute.
Civil Engineering Department provides Consultancy Services to Industry
Department of Civil Engineering provides consultancy services to the industry.
It provides services for material testing such as concrete, Steel, Bricks etc. Prof. K. R. Patil conducts the
testing with help of Lab Assistants.
Prof. S. K. Patil Provides services of Water testing for different purposes.
Prof. A. V. Karvekar, undertakes third party auditing with help from Prof. P. P. Prabhu and Prof. G. S.
Murgude.
Till date the revenue of more than Rs. One Lakh has been generated from consultancy services.
Department is trying to be self-sustaining through the consultancy services in near future.
Civil Engineering Department signs MoU with Companies
Department of Civil Engineering has signed MoU’s with
