Vietnam a charming land
Vietnam is emerging as a hot spot for international tourists and is
an undiscovered land for many foreigners. More than 30 years
after reunification and largely known for wars against foreign
invaders, Vietnam is transforming and becoming one of the safest travel destinations in Southeast Asia. This undiscovered land
reveals to outsiders its charms in various ways.
Firstly, it is a multi-ethnic and open society. Its openness in
contact with foreigners can be traced back to the 18th century,
with the existence of trading ports like Hoi An and Pho Hien.
Secondly, tourists will see that Vietnam does not have the grand
temples commonly found in many other countries. Nothing in the
country is grandiose; rather, simplicity and modesty reign. But it
is this simplicity and modesty that attracts foreign tourists. Foreigners realize that behind the simplicity is a fruitful and
strong spiritual life.
Vietnam entwickelt sich immer mehr zu einem heißen Tipp für

Erstens: Es hat eine multiethnische und offene Gesellschaft. Seine Offenheit gegenüber Fremden kann aufgrund der

18. Jahrhundert zurückverfolgt werden.
Zweitens: Touristen werden erleben, dass Vietnam nicht
die großen Tempel hat, die für gewöhnlich in vielen anderen
Ländern zu sehen sind. Nichts in diesem Land ist grandios,
sondern es regieren Einfachheit und Bescheidenheit. Aber es ist
gerade diese Einfachheit und Bescheidenheit, die ausländische Touristen anzieht. Ausländer werden erkennen, dass sich
hinter dieser Einfachheit ein fruchtbares und streng spirituelles
Leben verbirgt.
Drittens: Vietnam ist für seine wunderschönen Landschaften mit zahlreichen, von der UNESCO anerkannten Naturund Kulturdenkmäler bekannt. Nach Meinung der Financial
Times ist Vietnam „nicht nur eine Tourismusalternative”, sondern auf dem besten Weg, seine südostasiatischen Nachbarn
einzuholen. Da es am Südchinesischen Meer liegt, hat Vietnam
eine besondere geographische Lage. Wenn man von Norden
nach Süden reist, kann man Klimaveränderungen beobachten.
Im Norden gibt es vier ausgeprägte Jahreszeiten. Die Kälte aus
dem Norden Chinas sorgt für frostige Winter. In der Zentralregion und im Süden scheint häufig die Sonne und erinnert an
einen tropischen sonnigen Strand. In einigen Regionen wie Da
Lat und Sa Pa ist das Wetter aufgrund ihrer Höhenlage so kühl
wie in der gemäßigten Zone Europas. Im Süden, wo der mysteriöse Mekong in das Meer fließt, können Forscher zahlreiche Kanäle, Flüsse und Mangrovensümpfe sowie auch dichte
Dschungel entdeckten.
Thirdly, Vietnam is known for its beautiful landscapes, with
many natural and cultural heritage sites recognized by UNESCO. According to the Financial Times, Vietnam is “not just a
tourism alternative” but rapidly catching up with its Southeast
Asian neighbours. Lying along the South China Sea, Vietnam
has a distinct geographical position. Travelling from north to

Expecting the unexpected, foreign tourists have been flocking to
Vietnam in recent times. Over the past 15 years tourist arrivals
have grown an average of 20 per cent per year, shooting up from
250,000 in 1990 to 3.6 million in 2006. In the midst of the global
economic crisis, 2009 was a difficult year for Vietnam’s tourism.
The number of international tourists fell 10.9 per cent against
2008, to nearly 3.8 million. In response to emerging challenges,
the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has undertaken the “Vietnam Impression” campaign to promote the exploration of nearby tourist markets and stimulate domestic demand. In
particular, travel agencies have offered numerous packages with
30-50 per cent off, visa exemptions are available for citizens from
some countries and more focus has been given to the domestic market

As a result, the decline in the number of international tourists has
halted and domestic tourist services have grown remarkably. In
2009 the total number of domestic tourists was around 25 million, up 20 per cent against 2008. Total tourism revenue in 2009
still rose 6-9 per cent compared to 2008. According to Globalysis Ltd,
a leading world consultancy organisation, Vietnam has the highest
tourism growth rate in Asia.

A multi-ethnic society
Vietnam is home to 54 different ethnic groups. During the history
of national development, all of these ethnic groups were closely
engaged to one another and united in fighting against foreign invaders, defending the country’s territory, gaining the right to live
on the homeland and the right to national independence and selfdetermination. Each ethnic group has their own language and
cultural identity, thus making the Vietnamese culture a blend of
different cultures.

Since 1990 many sites and tourist destinations in Vietnam have
been named World Natural and Cultural Heritage Sites by UNESCO. With its ancient citadel and surrounding palaces and pagodas, Hue has been declared a UNESCO historical site. The other
UNESCO sites are Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha Ke Bang National
Park, the My Son Holy Land, and the old trading port of Hoi An.

2006 marked a significant year for tourism in Vietnam. With
the successful hosting of the 14th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in November 2006, Vietnam became an even more popular
venue for international conferences and MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conventions and Exhibitions) activities. During the APEC
leaders’ week, more than 1,500 business people, including 750
foreign representatives (125 from the world’s top 500 corporations), attended the APEC CEO Summit. On the sidelines were
78 meetings between international businesspeople and Vietnamese partners and with Vietnam’s leaders and heads of agencies to
seek business opportunities in the country. According to the CEO
of a large tourist company operating in Vietnam, many foreigners would like to visit the country, first and foremost because of
its fresh and undiscovered nature. This is a major incentive for
trans-national corporations and international organizations to

Weltnatur- und Kulturerbe
Seit 1990 wurden viele Orte und Touristenziele in Vietnam
von der UNESCO als Weltnatur- und Kulturerbe anerkannt.
Mit seiner antiken Zitadelle und den umstehenden Palästen
und Pagoden wurde Hue von der UNESCO zur historischen
Stätte erklärt. Weitere von der UNESCO anerkannte Stätten
sind Ha Long Bay, der Nationalpark von Phong Nha Ke Bang,

MICE Aktivitäten, Badeorte und anderes
2006 war ein sehr wichtiges Jahr für den Tourismus in Vietnam. Nachdem Vietnam im November 2006 Gastgeber des 14.

Seit 2002 ist Vietnam mit seinen Badeorten bei den ausländischen Touristen eine beliebte Alternative in Asien geworden.
Da es über 3.200 km Küstenlinie verfügt, bieten zahlreiche
Orte in Zentralvietnam dieselben Bedingungen wie berühmte
Badeorte wie z.B. Phuket in Thailand und Bali in Indonesien.
Mui Ne in Phan Thiet, das nur 200 km von Ho-Chi-MinhStadt entfernt liegt, wird „Vietnams kühle Küstenzuflucht”
genannt. Mui Ne ist sicherlich der geheimniste Zufluchtsort
der Region geblieben. Windsurfer kundschafteten als erste die
bilderbuchartigen Buchten aus, aber Kitesurfer setzten Mui Ne
auf die Landkarte. Obwohl es bis jetzt eines der bestgehüteten
Geheimnisse Asiens geblieben ist, wird Mui Ne mit zahlreichen neuen Hotels und Ferienorten, von denen sich viele im
Besitz ortsansässiger Unternehmer befinden, Catering für die
wachsende inländische Mittelklasse und ausländische Touristen, nun doch immer beliebter.

Luftfahrtbereichs, die Rationalisierung der Steuersätze, die Sicherstellung einer touristenfreundlichen Visa- und Einwanderungspolitik und die Implementierung von Verfahrensänderungen bei der Bereitstellung von Land für den Bau von Hotels.

Since 2002 Vietnam has become a popular alternative for beach
resorts among foreign tourists in Asia. Endowed with 3,200 km
of coastline, many localities in central Vietnam have conditions
on par with famous beach resorts such as Phuket in Thailand and
Bali in Indonesia. Mui Ne in Phan Thiet, just 200km from Ho Chi
Minh City, has been called “Vietnam’s Cool Coastal Get- away”.
Mui Ne may well have remained the region’s most secret
hideaway. Wind-surfers first scouted the postcard-perfect coves,
but kite surfers put Mui Ne on the map. While remaining one
of Asia’s best-kept secrets, Mui Ne beach is becoming more and
more popular, with scores of new hotels and resorts, many locallyowned, catering for the rising domestic middleclass and foreign
tourists.

Development policy
The objective of the government’s tourism policy is to position the
sector as a major driver of economic growth and to harness its direct and multiplying effects on employment and poverty reduction
in an environmentally-sustainable manner. Policy initiatives to
develop the tourism industry as a whole include expanding the
aviation sector, rationalizing tax rates, ensuring tourist-friendly visa and immigration policies and implementing procedural
changes in making land available for the construction of hotels.

Nach der erfolgreichen Marktingkampagne „Vietnam - Reiseziel des neuen Millenniums” hat das Ministerium für Kultur,
Sport und Tourismus in 2012 eine weitere Werbekampagne unter
dem Motto „Vietnam - Der Zeitlosem Charme” gestartet, um
für den vietnamesischen Tourismus in der Region und in Asien
ein unverwechselbares Image aufzubauen.

Tourism launched another promotion campaign called “Vietnam
- Timeless Charm” in 2012, with the aim of building a distinct image
for Vietnamese tourism in the region and in Asia.
Im Laufe der Jahre hat das Ministerium für Kultur, Sport und
Tourismus im In- und Ausland zahlreiche Werbeaktivitäten
für den Tourismus organisiert und begleitet. 2006 nahm Vietnam an 50 internationalen Tourismus-Festivals und 30 Informationsveranstaltungen teil. 2009 war das Werbeprogramm
„Eindrucksvolles Vietnam” ein großer Erfolg und führte dazu,
dass 25 Millionen inländische Touristen abstiegen, was im Vergleich zu 2008 einen Anstieg um 9 Prozent darstellt. Gemeinsame Werbeaktivitäten für Tourismus, Handel, Investitionen
und Kultur wurden von den Auslandsvertretungen Vietnams in

Over the years, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has
organized and attended many tourism promotion activities at
home and abroad. In 2006 Vietnam participated in 50 international tourism festivals and 30 roadshows. In 2009 the promotional program “Impressive Vietnam” was a great success, achieving 25 million domestic tourist arrivals, an increase of 9 per cent
compared with 2008. Co-promotion activities in tourism, trade,
investment and culture have been held by Vietnam’s overseas missions in important tourism markets such as Paris, Berlin, Tokyo,
California and elsewhere.
Vietnam also actively participates in various initiatives in tourism cooperation to take advantage of the regional economic inte-

Verbesserung der Tourismusinfrastruktur
In Vietnam entstehen immer mehr Hotels und Ferienorte mit
internationalem Standard, um den Ansprüchen des Luxustourismus gerecht zu werden. Ein Beispiel hierfür ist der Badeort Furama Danang in Da Nang Stadt. Furama Danang war
der erste Badeort in der Zentralregion und verfügt über 198
Fünf-Sterne-Zimmer und Suiten mit Meeresblick auf der einen
und einer Süßwasserlagune und einem gepflegten tropischen
Garten auf der anderen Seite. Furama Danang war auch der
erste Fünf-Sterne-Badeort in Vietnam, der den renommierten
amerikanischen „Seven Star and Stripes Award” für den besten
Service erhielt.
In seinem Fünfjahresplan von 2005 bis 2010 strebt das Ministerium für Kultur, Sport und Tourismus an, 6 Millionen ausländische Besucher anzuziehen und seine Einnahmen bis 2010
auf 5 Milliarden $ zu verdoppeln. Des Weiteren hat die Regierung für ihren Fünfjahresplan auch ein Budget von 7,6 Millionen $ angekündigt. 2009 erreichten die eingetragenen FDI
in der Tourismus- und Unterhaltungsbranche 8,8 Milliarden $,
was 41 Prozent der in Vietnam insgesamt eingegangenen FDI
entspricht. Es sind bereits zahlreiche neue Tourismusprojekte
in Planung.

Improving tourism infrastructure
International standard hotels and resorts are blossoming in Vietnam to meet the demands of the high-end tourism market. One
example is the Furama Danang Resort in Da Nang city. Furama
Danang was the first seaside resort in the central region and has
198 five-star rooms and suites overlooking the sea on one side and
a freshwater lagoon and manicured tropical garden on the other.
Furama Danang was also the first five-star resort in Vietnam to
receive the prestigious American “Seven Star and Stripes Award”
for best service.
In its five-year plan 2005 - 2010, the Ministry of Culture, Sports
and Tourism targets to attract 6 million foreign visitors and double its revenue to $5 billion by 2010. The government also announced a budget of $7.6 million for the five-year plan. In 2009,
registered FDI in the tourism and entertainment sectors reached
$8.8 billion, equal to 41 per cent of total inbound FDI in Vietnam. Many new tourism projects are also in the pipeline.
