Giant Rolling Raspberries, tragic beauty queens and a happy end
Press Release from February 12, 2011
Giant Rolling Raspberries, tragic beauty queens and a happy
end on an air mattress… short film project ANSICHTSSACHE 3
begins with partner country Serbia
ANSICHTSSACHE – the international co-production project with up-and-coming scriptwriters from
Leipzig is taking place in 2011 for the third time. The successful cooperation between film schools
in the Ukraine and Poland is being continued in cooperation with the Dunav Film School in Belgrade. The German partner is – as before – the renowned Deutsche Literaturinstitut Leipzig.
On Thursday, February 3, 2011 a jury of media experts chose six scripts for use with the Serbian
film students. The winners are Choleda Jasdany, Mónika Koncz, Babét Mader, Therese Schreiber,
Manuel Stallbaumer und Julia Walter.
These young writers have developed exciting film material through the scriptwriting seminar led by
Cathy de Haan since October 2010 – in cooperation with EU candidate Serbia. Whether tragic or
comedic, each script has its own signature and invites the Serbian directors to enter into a creative
dialogue. The winners will take part in a workshop at the Dunav Film School in Belgrade where the
authors from Leipzig and their Serbian counterparts will continue to develop the scripts together.
The films will be shot in Serbia in the summer of 2011. The short films will have their premiere in
a special program at the FilmFestival Cottbus in early November 2011.
The project is thankful for the support of their long-time partner the Robert Bosch Foundation, as
well as the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, the Serbian Ministry of Culture and the GoetheInstitute Belgrade. And the network continues to grow – two new partners were added for 2011:
with the FilmFestival Cottbus – Festival of Eastern European Films and the Film Association of Saxony, ANSICHTSASACHE has gained partners experienced in strategic networking of regional, as
well as international, talent.
“ANSICHTSSACHE has proven itself as a successful project for the cooperation between up-andcoming filmmakers from Germany and Eastern Europe. This partnership marks the strategic enhancement of the profile and program of the FilmFestival Cottbus as well as our East-West co production market Connecting Cottbus.“ (Roland Rust, FilmFestival Cottbus director)
“ANSICHTSSACHE is actively working with the up-and-coming artists on the film landscape in Saxony. The Film Association, as a representative of the interests of filmmakers, wishes to support
the important promotion of talent that is taking place here. We are looking forward to the intensive cooperation with the filmmakers and authors from both Serbia and Leipzig.” (Uwe Penckert,
Film Association of Saxony)
ANSICHTSSACHE was founded in Leipzig in 2008 by OSTPOL e.V. The international short film project not only contributes to international understanding by creating an interdisciplinary dialogue
between young scriptwriters from Leipzig and international film schools, it also promotes efficient
and lasting international co-productions. It is a multi-step program, which distinguishes itself
through its twofold challenge of interdisciplinary cooperation and international exchange.
