The second album of the French Power Metal Band Darktribe starts with a nearly electronic intro. It slides into a mix
of symphonic and modern Power Metal for releasing afterwards the opener with hard and fast riffs.
Anthony Agnello's voice sounds always nice and melodical but unfortunately not literally spectacular. The same can
be said about the general songstructure, nothing sounds quite innovative or is special enough to be highlighted. Of
course, the modern sound with its creaking riffs is well done and also the guitar solos fit quite good as well as the
keyboard parts which create a suitable atmosphere. The point is that one has heard that kind of sound too often
from other bands of this genre. Also the few lightly progressive arrangements can't change this.
Furthermore, the sparkling idea, that provides the necessary lightness and sticks the songs in one's memory
permantly, is missing. For sure, one can't expect each new album full of Metal-hits or hymns, but the one or other
song should be a highlight at least. This doesn't apply in this case to the greatest extent.
The only ray of light is the mid-tempo song "A Last Will" that scores with a nice refrain and a good mix of fussy trash
and fuming riffs. Furthermore, the too short ballad "Holy Water Day" and "Anthem For A Planet" in a Halloween
manner is also a glimmer of hope.
Conclusion:
Invited to fire off are all those who need a modern mix of Stratovarius, Kamelot and a little bit of Symphony X
sounding exactly the same but with rare individuality. One who is searching for an independent sound, a recall value
or a catchy factor should carefully risk an ear before buying. Personally for me the band could convince with their
quite masterly musical performance on the technical level. Apart from that it is a barely memorable album.
