The godfathers of Hellectro are
back: Suicide Commando return with a new album that is
aptly titled “When Evil Speaks”
and that is not only an intense
trip into electronic hell but also
the group’s most versatile album to date. “To be honest, I
kind of got tired of the current
‘boom boom boom’ generation
where each song has to be over
140 bpm. While I see more
and more bands jumping on
to this trend, I just wanted to
do something completely different. I guess you can call me
stubborn but I just
don’t want to be one
of a LOT, I’d rather
be myself. After all, I’m not 18
anymore and I don’t need to prostitute myself to
be part of a subgenre”, says mastermind Johan
van Roy. Fans needn’t worry, though, the end
result still sounds 100% like Suicide Commando
and is, in a way, also a trip back to the band’s
roots. “It was the perfect time to go back to my
roots. I already took some steps in that direction
on the previous album with songs like ‘Severed
Head’ or ‘Until We Die.’ But this time, the trip
back was way more significant”, Johan explains.
Thematically, the album is yet again a trip into
the dark side of the human psyche, but also approaching the subject from a different angle.
“While the title track basically deals with what’s
going on in a psychopath’s mind when looking for
his next possible victim/prey, the album is more
about the hate and evil inherent in mankind. It
has almost become trendy and fancy to talk evil
about others, especially on the internet where
people can spread their hate and bash on others
incognito. I tried to transform all this hate into
music, so it inevitably became a very agressive
and controversial album.” “When Evil Speaks” is
available as a deluxe 2CD-Edition with the bonus remix album “When Hate Prevails” and as
a limited set in a hand made steel box with the
exclusive vintage live CD “Rewind.” Johan explains: “Most bands on the remix album are good
friends of mine who I respect a
lot and some still owed me a favor while others almost begged
me to do a remix. Thus, it was
pretty easy to come up with so
many remixes. I deliberately
didn’t want to have too many
big names on the remix album
as often the smaller bands put
much more effort into delivering a good remix, while the big
names more often just play it
safe.” And what comes after
the album? Johan smiles: “First
get this baby out into the stores
and then do some more extensive touring across the globe.
Not a (grey) hair on my body
that thinks about stopping just
yet!” ... which we are very happy about!

auch das bis dato vielseitigste
Album der Bandgeschichte
ist. „Um ehrlich zu sein: ich
hatte ziemlich die Schnauze
von der ‚uffta-uffta‘-Generation, mit mindestens 140
bpm, voll. Zwar springen immer mehr Gruppen auf den
Zug auf, aber ich
wollte nie eine von
vielen sein. Nennt
mich unverbesserlich, aber
ich bin nicht mehr 18 und muss mich nicht
anbiedern, um irgendwo dazuzugehören“, erklärt Suicide-Commando-Kopf Johan van Roy.
Fans müssen sich jedoch keine Sorgen machen: das Resultat klingt immer noch 100%
nach Suicide Commando und ist, in gewissem
Sinne, auch ein Trip zurück in die Vergangenheit: „Es war die perfekte Zeit, um zurück
zu den Wurzeln zu gehen. Ich hatte das auf
dem letzten Album ja schon angedeutet, aber
dieses Mal ist es noch viel konsequenter. Thematisch wird wieder ausführlich die dunkle
Seite der menschlichen Psyche ausgelotet,
aber diesmal auch aus anderen Perspektiven. „Wo der Titeltrack mehr oder minder beschreibt, was in einem Psychopathen vorgeht,
wenn dieser sich ein Opfer sucht, dreht sich
das Album mehr um den Hass und das Böse,
das der Menschheit innewohnt. Im Zeitalter
des Internets ist es ja fast schon trendy, andere niederzumachen, weil man sich anonym
wohnt. Es kommt die ganze Niedertracht der
Menschen zum Vorschein. Ich habe versucht,
das in Musik zu verpacken, weswegen es ein
sehr aggressives und kontroverses Album
geworden ist“, erklärt Johan. „When Evil
Speaks“ ist auch als deluxe Doppel-CD mit
dem Remix-Album „When Hate Prevails“, sowie als limitiertes Set in einer
handgefertigten Stahlbox mit
der exklusiven Vintage-Live-CD
„Rewind“ erhältlich. „Viele der
Remixer sind gute Freunde...
einige schuldeten mir Gefallen,
andere haben mich fast angefleht, dabei zu sein. Ich wollte
extra nicht so viele große Namen dabei haben, da sich die
kleineren Bands meistens viel
mehr Mühe geben und die interessanteren Ergebnisse liefern.“
Und was kommt als Nächstes?
Johan lacht: „Erstmal schieben
wir das neue Baby in die Läden
und dann geht es natürlich auf
extensive Tour um den Globus!
Nicht eins der grauen Haare auf
meinem Körper denkt schon
ans Aufhören!“ Dafür sind wir
auch sehr dankbar!

equivalent to a punch
in the guts. The 13
songs that Andy wrote
for the soundtrack of
the video game “DMC
Devil May Cry” sport
the typical Combichrist
trademarks, augmented by walls of guitars.
Is this the next logical
step in the
evolution
of Combichrist or
was it just
for the sake of the game? Andy grins: “Both.
I always evolve from album to album, but I
also went way further than I would have done
on a normal Combichrist release, if there is
such a thing as that (laughs). I had complete freedom when I wrote the music, and
I did what I thought was the best fit for the
game.” How is the initial reaction from the
fans? “Haters are always louder than lovers”,
says Andy, “But so far, it seems that people
like it. I’m sure people understand that this
doesn’t necessarily represent the future of
Combichrist.” What was it like, composing
songs for a game for a change? “It’s been an
amazing new experience for me. Usually, I’ll
have to come up with the character, storyline
and mood myself, but this time, it was already there for me. To be able to be working
on such an iconic game was obviously also
an honor. And yeah, the game and Combichrist go together like nothing else”, Andy
explains enthusiastically. He was totally integrated into the development when writing the
songs: “I had a lot of video material to work
with. I basically worked sided by side with the
progress of the game. Every track I did was
tailored to the combat scenes.” Playing the
game, this shows... it really feels like Combichrist is such an integral part of it all that one
can hardly imagine “DMC Devil
May Cry” without it. The sonic
mayhem of “No Redemption”
also works very well on its
own, though. So what’s next?
Andy laughs:” Writing and recording a new album, hopefully getting to release that later
this year, planning new tours,
and re-thinking the live shows.
I want people to feel like they
got punched in their face after
leaving the next show. I want
it to be that powerful. Pure
horsepower!” “No Redemption” certainly delivers in full
on all aspects, so we can be
very much looking forward to
what the year will still hold in
stock.

grinst: „Beides. Wir entwickeln uns mit jedem
Album weiter, aber hier hatte ich die Gelegenheit, weiter zu gehen, als ich es auf einem normalen Combichrist-Release getan hätte, falls
es das gibt. Ich hatte die völlige musikalische
Freiheit und habe versucht, das umzusetzen,
was ich für das Spiel am besten empfand.“ Wie
ist die Reaktion der Fans. Andy zuckt mit den
Schultern: „Die Hasser reißen ihren Mund immer am meisten auf. Aber die meisten Reaktionen waren positiv. Ich hoffe, dass den Leuten
bewusst ist, dass die Scheibe nicht zwingend
den weiteren Sound der Band definieren muss.
Das nächste Album kann wieder ganz anders
klingen.“ Und wie war es, Musik für ein Spiel zu
schreiben. Andys Blick wird enthusiastisch: „Es
war ein tolles, neues Erlebnis. Normalerweise
muss ich mir alle Konzepte, etc., selbst ausdenken, aber diesmal hatte ich alles schon für mich
bereitgelegt. Es war natürlich auch eine große
Ehre, für solch ein ikonisches Spiel zu arbeiten.
DMC und Combichrist passen zusammen, wie
die Faust aufs Auge. Ich habe parallel zum
Entwicklungsfortschritt des Spiels gearbeitet.
Jeder Track wurde perfekt den Kampfszenen
angepasst.“ Was man auch sofort merkt: wenn
man „DMC Devil May Cry“ zockt, wirken Spiel
und Musik wie eine absolute
Einheit. Aber die Songs auf
„No Redemption“ funkionieren
auch verdammt gut ohne Bilder. Was kommt als Nächstes?
Andy lacht: „Wir arbeiten schon
am neuen Album, was wir hoffentlich später im Jahr veröffentlichen werden. Außerdem
planen wir neue Konzerte und
überarbeiten die live Shows.
Wir wollen, dass Combichrist
live noch mehr wie ein Tritt in
die Fresse herüberkommen.

spawn something really
original? Probably quite
some time ago. Enter
Forgotten Sunrise! The
Estonian freethinkers
have created their very
own sonic universe on
“Cretinism”,
an
utterly imaginative trip
into unexplored territories that plays like a
menacing, yet highly
addictive
bastard
child of David Lynch,
Kirlian Camera, Deine
Lakaien, Dead Can
Dance and The Prodigy, pierced by ultraaggressive slashes of
death-growl-infused Harsh-Electro-mayhem. “We
call our style Deathbeat. It’s mainly influenced by
electronic beat-oriented music and Death Metal
(but without the guitars). Most similar to Industrial, but also very different. Dance music for
head banging with a mixture of folk and dark-ambient”, singer and mastermind Anders explains
the sound of the band with a grin. Their newest
epic “Cretinism” has a special place in Anders’
heart: “For me it originates straight out of the
meaning of my life. At the same time it is kind of
like a school where I’ve always wanted to learn:
From composing to recording, from engineering
to mastering – the most complete piece of work
in Forgotten Sunrise’s existence. Listeners should
take it in as a whole, not just check and listen to
a few songs. ‘Cretinism’ is about life and death
and recommends you to go your own way in life.
Don’t ever trust people who say that they know
the truth.” The track “...dots” features prominent
support in form of guest growls from Marko “Holocausto” Laiho from the legendary Black Metal
band Beherit. “It was about 10 years ago when
I met Jari aka Sodomatic Slaughter (the drummer in Beherit) at a Hocico gig in Tallinn. Some
years later they visited Tallinn together and so we
met. I’ve loved Beherit since the early 90s. I’m
bloody happy to have this song
on ‘Cretinism’, it means a lot to
me.” And what about the scene
in Tallinn? “I’ve been cultivating the dark scene in Estonia
already 15 years. Beats From
The Vault events, Body Machine
Body festival, Röntgen radio
show etc. The main problem is
the population of Estonia. You
know, when there’s 1,3 million
people living in your country
altogether, you can’t expect
to see thousands of people at
your parties or festivals”, Anders laughs. It’s about time we
put Estonia on the map, then!

steht es um die Szene in Tallinn?
„Ich versuche seit 15 Jahren,
mit Beats From The Vault, dem
Body Machine Body Festival und
anderen Sachen, die Dunkle
Szene zu kultivieren, aber wir
haben eben nur insgesamt 1,3
Millionen Einwohner im ganzen
Land. Daher kann man auch
keine tausende Leute auf den
Festivals und Konzerten erwarten“, lacht Anders. Es wird Zeit,
Estland einen prominenten Platz
auf der musikalischen Landkarte

Italian cult group Kirlian
Camera is returning with
their long-awaited new album and, as always, Elena
Alice Fossi & Angelo Bergamini introduce a lot of
new elements and ideas into
their fascinating trademark
sound. “The album is called
‘Black Summer Choirs’ and
the concept behind it was
born throughout last spring
and summer time. It’s been
a very gloomy period and so
darkness
dominates
this
new
adventure: like a cloudy
summer day in an abandoned and wasted land”,
Elena explains. Angelo adds:
“This brand new chapter sounds darker. It’s an
album full of anguish... more claustrophobic and
mournful, in a way. Some songs are rhythmoriented, but their global structures are never
mainstream and this time, Elena’s vocals are
way more sick, morbid and fiendish. This time,
it is really difficult to put a label on it all: I’m
at risk of confusing the audience by trying to
explain more.” Is there a red
line that connects the album’s
songs? Elena smiles: “Some
may find it satanic, but it is
not. Let’s say that it is a depiction of obscure and spiritual
moments. One day, last summer, we were on an abandoned
little strip of land. The heat was
oppressive, the sun was about
to set on the horizon and we
were a little drunk. There was
a small church next to a dry
stream. We parked the car
and entered the chapel. It was
nearly pitch dark while a cackling little speaker was playing
litanies. It was a surreal feeling
that inspired us to the title that
very day and made it all come
together.” . “Black Summer

limited to 1000 copies with a

Das war eine düstere Zeit
für uns, weswegen die

erklärt Elena und Angelo fügt hinzu: „Das
neue Kapitel klingt dunkler, voller Verzweiflung, klaustrophobisch und trauernd. Einige
Songs sind rhythmisch, aber fernab des Mainstreams und Elenas Stimme ist kränker, morbider, beängstigender. Es ist schwierig, es zu
beschreiben und mehr würde die Leute nur
verwirren. Hört einfach selbst.“
Gibt es einen roten Faden? Elena lächelt: „Einige werden es
für satanisch halten, aber das
ist es nicht. Es behandelt obskure und spirituelle Momente.
An einem extrem heißen Sommertag fuhren wir durch ein
verlassenes Stück Land. Die
Sonne ging gerade unter und
wir waren etwas angetrunken,
als wir an einer kleinen Kirche
bei einem ausgetrockneten
Bach anhielten. Wir gingen hinein und drinnen war es stockfinster, fast schwarz. Drinnen
liefen verzerrte Litaneien über
einen alten Lautsprecher. Wir
dachten sofort an ‚Black Summer Choirs“ - schwarze Sommerchoräle und wussten: das

Who would have thought?
While the new Blutengel
epic “Monument” managed to surpass all expectations wirh a superb
selection of some of the
group’s finest songs and
a gigantic sound, but
neither we nor the band
would have dreamed that
this would catapult them
straight to #4 of the German Album Charts. Chris
laughs: “That kind of blew
us away. Of
course I am all
the more happy
as I do see the
album as a sort
of monument
for my life’s work. It is my most refined and
elaborate production to date and contains
songs that we have been working on for
more than 2 years until they had the quality we wanted to achieve for the album. The
massive sound is, of course, also a result
of us working with an external producer
who made the fat arrangements even bigger. Yet, still the album is also comparable
to a classic like ‘Seelenschmerz’ because it
contains all the essentials that made this
album great: hard Electro tunes, catchy
songs and ballads... just bigger and better, this time around.” The album is also
available as a deluxe double CD edition that
sports a full mini album with more unreleased songs. Chris explains: “CD 2 of the
deluxe edition contains 8 new songs that I
produced with my colleague Mario Rühlicke.
These tracks are no fillers, but, to me, just
as worthy as the main album tracks. They
just didn’t fit into the big scheme of things
with ‘Monument.’” The tour accompanying
the album was also adequately monumental with a gigantic stage show and a live
line up that was expanded by live strings,
piano and percussion and it continued the
string of successes for the group with bigger venues and sold-out shows.
The completely sold-out show
in Berlin was filmed with multiple cameras for a release later
this year, much to the delight
of many fans world wide, we
would think. But first, the band
will release the third single off
“Monument”, the elegic anthem
“Kinder dieser Stadt”, which is
already a fan favorite. The band
is currently putting the finishing touches on a lavish video
clip to accompany the single
release. So... there are still lots
of goodies down the pipeline for
Blutengel-fans. 2013 is a rather
monumental year, indeed!

welche die Ganze Vielseitigkeit von Blutengel widerspiegeln und
seiner
gigantischen
Produktion
zwar,
die ohnehin schon
hoch gesteckten Erwartungen an einen
Nachfolger zu
„Tränenherz“
in jeder Form
zu übertreffen, aber dass
diese Bemühungen mit einem wohlverdienten Platz 4 in den
deutschen Media Control Albumcharts belohnt werden würden, davon hätten sowohl die Band als auch
wir kaum zu träumen gewagt. Chris lacht: „Das war
schon der Hammer und ich kann es immer noch kaum
glauben. Es ist natürlich umso toller, da ich mir mit
‚Monument‘ schon eine Art Denkmal setzen wollte.
Es ist meine bis dato aufwändigste Produktion und
es sind Songs enthalten, an denen wir teilweise seit
2 Jahren getüftelt haben, bis sie die Qualität hatten,
die wir für das Album haben wollten. Für den Sound
ist natürlich auch unser Produzent mitverantwortlich,
der die eh‘ schon fett angelegten Arrangements noch
fetter gemacht hat. Trotzdem bietet das Album alles,
was Klassiker, wie ‚Seelenschmerz‘, ausgemacht hat:
Harte Electrosongs, poppige Stücke, Balladen...“ Das
Album gibt es auch als deluxe Doppel-CD mit einem
weiteren,vollwertigen Minialbum der Band, wie Chris
erzählt: „CD2 der deluxe Edition enthält 8 weitere
Stücke, die ich zusammen mit meinem Kollegen Mario Rühlicke aufgenommen habe. Die Songs sind keine ‚Füller‘, sondern für mich genauso wertig, wie das
Hauptalbum. Sie passten eben nur nicht so perfekt
in den Spannungsbogen von ‚Monument‘.“ Die Tour
zum Album fiel mit einer bombastischen Bühnenshow und einer durch Streicher, Piano und Schlagwerk erweiterte live-Besetzung ebenfalls angemessen monumental aus und führte die Erfolgsserie von

title for the group’s
highly versatile sonic
mayhem and one that
is directly liked to its
predecessor, as fm explains: “‘Great Minds
Against
T h e m selves
Conspire’
is the title
of a wonderful aria
at the end of Henry Purcell’s masterpiece ‘Dido
and Aeneas’ (1680). Basically, it speaks about
PRIDE. Pride is one of the primary manifestations of human weakness and it is one of the
worst enemies of mankind, It’s the unaware and
dangerous feeling that almost always leads to
self-destruction. There’s always a cure but your
pride will refuse it. The title of our new album
is the second sentence that completes the aria
of Purcell’s opera.” Why did it take so long to
record the new album? “In 2007, we went to
Australia to record ‘Great Minds’ together with
Alex (Spalck), we were very fast (as usual),
so, before leaving, we had time to develop and
record some new songs we already had for a
follow-up. When we came back home, Alex suddenly decided to quit Pankow again so I had to
put everything on hold. Last year, he changed
his mind, so I reopened the folders and together
with Bram Declercq and Cosimo Barberi, we
worked on finishing those tracks plus other new
songs based on new Alex’s lyrics and finally, we
completed this new chapter”, fm recounts. The
new album also contains a bonus disc with reworks, an afterthought, as fm reveals: “I called
the disc two just ‘+’ and it has nothing to do
with... it is a vehicle to make the album more
attractive to casual buyers. At first, I wasn’t too
fond of the idea but then Bram
convinced me, so we started
to ask other musicians for remixes of old and new tracks
and it was starting to become
fun. We also re-recorded some
of the classics ourselves (with
Bram’s vocals) to give it a more
personal note.” And live? fm
says: “It will be me, Bram Declercq on vocals, Paolo Favati
on the mixing desk, Ale Gimmi
Gimignani on drums and Cosimo Barberi on keyboards and
vocals.” With the new album,
the band has closed a chapter,
as fm explains:”I feel for many
personal reasons that the last
three albums are part of one
cycle. Now this chapter is
closed and we can start something new... again.”

der zweite Satz, der den Arientitel vervollständigt.“ Warum hat es fünf Jahre gedauert? „2007
sind wir nach Australien gefahren, um ‚Great
Minds‘ mit Alex Spalck aufzunehmen. Wie immer
waren wir sehr schnell und haben dann gleich
noch an weiteren Stücken für einen Nachfolger
gearbeitet. Als wir nach Hause kamen, hatte sich
Alex entschlossen, Pankow zu verlassen und die
neuen Stücke lagen auf Eis. Letztes Jahr hat er
sich wieder umentschieden, also habe ich mich
mit Bram Declercq und Cosimo Barberi an die
Stücke gesetzt und diese, sowie weitere Lieder,
die auf Alex‘ Texten basierten, fertig gestellt“,
erinnert sich fm. Das neue Album kommt mit
einer Bonus-Scheibe, die Neubearbeitungen
und Remixe enthält. fm erklärt: „Ich habe diese
einfach ‚+‘ genannt und sie hat nichts mit dem
Album zu tun. Man empfahl uns, eine zweite Disc
zu machen, da diese einen größeren Kaufanreiz
für Neulinge bringen würde. Ich war zunächst
dagegen, aber Bram hat mich überzeugt und
als wir die ersten Remixe von
anderen Künstlern auf dem
Tisch hatten, bekam ich Spaß
an der Sache. Wir haben dann
auch selber einige Klassiker
mit Brams Stimme neu eingespielt, um der ganzen Sache
eine persönliche Note zu geben.“ Live wird die Band aus
fm, Bram Declercq am Gesang,
Paolo Favati am Mixer, Ale Gimmi Gimiagni an den Drums und
Cosimo Berberi an Keyboards
und Gesang bestehen. Mit dem
neuen Album schließt sich ein
Kreis, wie fm erklärt: „Für mich
bilden die drei letzten Alben
aus persönlichen Gründen eine
Einheit. Nun ist dieses Kapitel
abgeschlossen und wir können
auf zu neuen Ufern streben...
mal wieder.“

first new album in

up after 22 years
and
approached
us to release it,
to us, it was like
coming full circle,
as The Klinik had
been one of our
main inspirations
for starting
the
label, almost two
decades
ago and the track “Out Of Line”, from the
legendary “Face To Face”-album served
as the name giver. And now, listening to
“Eat Your Heart Out”, it feels like The Klinik
have never been off the map... their sound
is still as innovative, fresh and intriguing
as it was more than two decades ago. “We
are very proud of the final result and I can
assure you that even we would not have
expected some years ago that a new album would be a possibillity. We already
played a few of the tracks live and I always
knew that we still had a very good album
left inside of us but now it finally is a reality. The instruments, voice, spirit and way
of recording are the same as 22 years ago
but the mastering done by Eric van Wonterghem was very important. He made the
new tracks sound very open and powerful.
He brought them to an higher level”, states
an enthusiastic Dirk Ivens. The initial spark
for recording the new album came from
playing live again, as Dirk explains: “It all
started when we were asked for a reunion
show at the BimFest in Belgium in 2003.
It was a huge success and since then we
play on a regular basis. We also started
to create new music again but we realized that expectations would
be very high, therefore we
kept it quiet until the new
album was completely finished.” The band has a new
permanent addition to their
line up in form of BORG aka
Peter Mastbooms (The Juggernauts) who is joining Dirk
live on stage: “Marc has not
been feeling very well in the
last years. Therefore, he decided not to join us on stage
in the near future. Peter has
been the 2nd man on stage
next to me for a while now.”

Kasten hätte und es
gerne über uns releasen würde, fühlte
es sich an, als würde
sich ein Kreis schließen, waren doch
The Klinik ein maßgeblicher Anstoß für
die Labelgründung
vor
fast
zwei
Dekaden und
der Track „Out Of Line“ vom legendären „Face
To Face“-Album der Namensgeber. Und jetzt,
auf „Eat Your Heart Out“ läuft einem sofort
ein wohliger Schauer über den Rücken, denn
es klingt, als wäre die Band nie weg gewesen
und der Sound ist immer noch so frisch, einzigartig und innovativ, wie vor mehr als zwei
Dekaden. „Wir sind sehr stolz auf das Ergebnis, besonders, weil wir vor ein paar Jahren
selbst noch nicht damit gerechnet hätten, das
wir ein neues Album aufnehmen würden. Wir
haben dann aber ein paar von den Stücken
live gespielt und irgendwann war klar, dass
wir noch ein gutes Album in uns haben. Die
Instrumente, Stimme, der Geist und die Art,
wie wir aufnehmen waren genau wie vor 22
Jahren, aber das Mastering durch Eric van
Wonterghem nahm eine besondere Rolle eine.
Er hat den Sound geöffnet und noch viel mehr
Kraft aus ihnen herausgekitzelt“, erzählt ein
enthusiastischer Dirk Ivens. Die Initialzündung für das neue Album kam durch die live
Konzerte: „Der Grundstein wurde durch unsere Reunionshow beim BimFest 2003 in Belgien
gelegt. Diese war ein großer Erfolg, sodass
wir seitdem wieder regelmäßig auftreten. Wir
fingen dann auch wieder an, neue Musik zu
schreiben, es war uns aber bewusst, dass die
Erwartungen hoch sein würden, weswegen wir uns Zeit
gelassen und die Füße still
gehalten haben, bis wirklich
alles zu unserer Zufriedenheit
im Kasten war.“ BORG aka
Peter Mastbooms (The Juggernauts) ist nun festes Mitglied für Liveauftritte: „Marc
ist seit den letzten Jahren
nicht so fit und wollte daher
nicht live spielen und lieber
nur im Studio arbeiten. Peter
übernahm seitdem die Rolle
des zweiten Mannes auf der
Bühne.“ Wir hoffen, dass ihr
unsere Begeisterung über die
Rückkehr einer der einflussreichsten
Electro-Legenden
teilt!

“Beyond
Wonderland”,
Meinhard, a real character, takes us right into
Carroll’s fantastic construction by creating a
sonic journey through
multiple genres that is
as adventurous as it is
crazily
unpredictable.
“Bringing together things
that are seemingly incompatible has always
been one of my
primary
goals.
I have heard a lot of different associations in regard to my music - interestingly enough, they are never the same.
I am not even aware of the parallels. It’s
probably like the Martians in H.G. Wells’
‘War Of The Worlds’: everyone will interpret his own expectations into those unknown and new beings - I just hope that,
in my case, it will not be nightmares or
traumas, but much more pleasant associations”, the friendly visionary explains.
And don’t you worry... this mad sonic expedition is extremely addictive, once you
have embraced it completely. Why Alice
in Wonderland? “This subject has been
haunting me since my childhood, especially the conflict between imagination
and reality and I hope to bring the two
a bit closer together in my works. Also, I
am sometimes showing symptoms of the
‘Alice In Wonderland”-syndrome where
my perception of physical reality alters
from situation to situation - especially in
regard to rooms. But even my perception of people sometimes dramatically
alters from moment to moment and it is
often hard to discern what is an objective reality and what just a product of my
imagination. For the album, I
wanted to go one step beyond by stepping into Alice’s
shoes... but I also wanted to
take on the roles of all the
characters in Wonderland”,
Meinhard recounts. And how
much of the real person behind the character is in Meinhard? He laughs: “Everything,
of course!” For a first impression, we suggest checking out
the clips for “Falling!” and
“Nimmerwo” on our Youtubechannel. But, of course, to
really grasp the Meinhardphenomenon, you will have to
delve deeply into the album in
its entirety. Utterly fascinating
and completely bonkers!

Debütalbum
„Beyond
Wonderland“ entführt uns
der musikalische Paradiesvogel Meinhard direkt
in das Carrollsche Fantasiekonstrukt und hat damit eine ebenso abenteuerliche, wie abgefahrene
Klangreise durch
sämtliche
Genres
geschaffen,
bei der man nie
weiß, was an der
nächsten Ecke lauern mag. „Die Vereinigung von
scheinbar Unvereinbarem ist ein erklärtes Ziel in
meinem Schaffen. Daher habe ich schon viele, sehr
gegensätzliche, Vergleiche gehört, doch fast nie wiederholen sich die Assoziationen. Ich selbst bin mir
der Parallelen gar nicht bewusst. Vermutlich geht
es mir wie den Marsianern in H.G. Wells ‚War of the
Worlds‘: Jeder nimmt in dem unbekannten und neuartigen Wesen das wahr, was seiner individuellen Erwartungshaltung am ehesten entspricht – nur hoffe
ich zutiefst, dass es in meinem Falle nicht die Alpträume und Traumata sind, sondern ungleich schicklichere Ideen zum Vergleich herangezogen werden“,
erklärt der sympathische Visionär. Und keine Angst,
die wilde musikalische Reise macht regelrecht süchtig, wenn man sich erst einmal darauf eingelassen
hat. Warum gerade Alice im Wunderland? „Ich beschäftige mich seit meiner Kindheit mit dem Thema,
gerade auch mit dem Konflikt zwischen Fantasie und
Realität, und es ist meine Hoffnung, beides ein wenig
näher zusammen zu rücken. Auch habe ich bisweilen eine Symptomatik, die in der Medizin ‚Alice im
Wunderland‘-Syndrom genannt wird. So erscheinen
mir teils die physischen Erscheinungsformen der Welt
in verschiedenen Situationen unterschiedlich - gerade, was Räume betrifft. Aber auch Personen wandeln
sich in meiner Wahrnehmung sehr stark, und es ist
oft kein Leichtes, zu unterscheiden, was meiner Vorstellung, und was einer objektiven Veränderung entspricht.
Für das Album wollte ich einen
Schritt weitergehen und mich
in die Rolle von Alice versetzen, aber auch selbst zu den
Charakteren des Wunderlandes
werden“, erzählt Meinhard. Und
wieviel von ihm selbst steckt in
der Kunstfigur „Meinhard.“ Er
lacht: „Alles!“ Wer sich einen
ersten Eindruck verschaffen
möchte, kann sich die Clips zu
„Falling!“ und „Nimmerwo“ auf
unserem Youtube Kanal ansehen. Aber um das Phänomen
Meinhard wirklich zu erfassen,
muss man sich schon Zeit für

chairs. “The track was
inspired by our Thuringian sausage roaster Häusi, who is also the
captain’s partner in crime on stage. The
filming of the accompanying clip was the
perfect opportunity to kick off the BBQ
season... even though there was still
snow outside”, the friendly muscle man
recounts. In the clip for the title song, the
captain and his crew serve up a fun homage/parody on German BBQ and party
culture. What inspired it? “We just wanted
to do it. The captain is the prison ward
who sees to it that Häusi and Asbach fulfill their mandatory training schedule. In
a weak moment, he lets the musclebound
guys escape who then dance around the
barbecue grill with the beautiful Nicky.
When the latter drops her fur coat for a
full view of the revealing glitter bikini she
is wearing, all hell breaks loose...”, the
captain explains with a wink and a smile.
The b-side is a collaboration with Christoph Kather from legendary Grindcore
band Japanische Kampfhörspiele. “Those
metal lads wanted Rummelsnuff to do one
of their tracks for a tribute album. ‘Minderleister’ is the result. On the upcoming
album, we will reverse roles:
the guys will be playing music to lyrics by Rummelsnuff
in ‘Yokozuna.’” What else can
the captain reveal regarding
the new album? “The captain
will take you on a journey, just
like in the lyrics of the opening song, a melodic and heartwarming duet with Christian
Asbach. Apart from his regular
partners in crime, Gohlke and
Häusi, there will also be collaborations with Die Orsons, King
Khan, Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Bela B. and other fellow
musicians.” This sounds more
than promising. Until then,

Minderleister für den Geeignetsten. Auf dem kommenden Rummelsnuff-Album im Spätsommer gibt’s dann
zusätzlich nochmal den umgekehrten Weg: Die Jungs musizieren zu einem Text vom Rummelsnuff ‚Yokozuna‘.“ Stichwort:

a storm! The new
album “Companion
In Crime” quite fittingly stands among
the hardest releases
that the band has
ever
recorded:
straightforward,
relentless, in your
face. “Due to line up
and personal changes within the band,
it was pretty much
inevitable that we
would leave the
beaten
paths.
Frankly stated,
we couldn’t care
less what others
think which is
why we let our thoughts flow freely,
never giving a damn whether certain
volatile subjects might cause a ruckus.
We know where we stand and what we
say and if you don’t like it, buzz off”,
singer Jens Kästel states. The rather
aggressive artwork fits hand in glove
that is a long way away from the army-themed covers of the past. Jens
laughs: “The thought that ‘life’s tough’
kept on manifesting inside my brain
and hence we arrived at this result in
collaboration with Alexander Fröbel,
who did an excellent job.” Lyrics-wise,
the album also hits on a wide array of
themes, quite literally shows the world
the finger, lets out pent-up aggression
and does not hesistate to delve deep
into the wounds of society. Funker
Vogt do not wish to preach and tell
people what to do, though. “We leave
that to the smartasses. A lot of the
lyrics are very personal and based on
real life events and experiences”, says
Jens. The Album will also be released
as a deluxe version including a bonus
CD with exclusive songs and
mixes and as an ultra-limited
fan box. “The songs have been
recorded over a time span of
two and a half years. We
chose the 13 tracks on the album because they fit together
best to form a coherent whole.
The songs on the bonus disc of
the limited edition could have
made the album, quality-wise,
but just didn’t fit in properly”,
Gerrit explains. The band will
be playing this year’s Amphi
Festival plus selected German
shows in support of the album this year. With a massive
onslaught like this, you can’t
help but become a “Companion In Crime!”

derben Elektroniker
jemals
eingespielt
haben.
„Aufgrund
der Veränderungen
der letzten Jahre,
bezüglich
Umfeld
und innerhalb der
Band, ergab es sich
von selbst, dass
ausgetretene
Wege verlassen
wurden. Mittlerweile interessiert
es uns noch weniger, was andere
sagen, sodass wir
unseren Gedanken einfach freien Lauf gelassen haben,
ohne Rücksicht auf definitiv auftretende Diskusionen
über das eine oder andere Thema. Wir wissen, was wir
sagen, stehen dazu und scheren uns einen feuchten Kericht darum ob es allen gefällt“, gibt Sänger Jens Kästel
zu Protokoll. Dazu passt dann auch das recht brutalprovokative Coverartwork, das nur noch sehr wenig mit
den Armee-zentrierten Designs der Vergangenheit zu
tun hat. Jens lacht: „In meinen Gedanken schwebten
einfach immer wieder die Worte ‚das wahre Leben‘ und
so kam es in Zusammenarbeit mit Alexander Fröbel,
der meiner Meinung nach einen super Job gemacht hat,
zu diesen Entwürfen.“ Auch textlich schlägt das Album
einen weiten Bogen und lässt mit ausgestrecktem Mittelfinger den Emotionen freien Lauf, entlädt angestaute
Aggressionen und bohrt ungeniert in den Wunden der
Gesellschaft. Funker Vogt wollen aber nicht den großen
Klugscheisser spielen und Menschen vorschreiben, was
sie zu denken haben, ganz im Gegenteil. „Das überlassen wir lieber den Besserwissern. Viele der Zeilen sind
sehr persönlich und somit eher als Zustandsbeschreibung zu sehen, basierend auf wahren Ereignissen bzw.
Erlebnissen“, meint Jens. Das Album erscheint auch in
einer Deluxe-Variante inklusive Bonus-CD mit exklusiven Stücken und Mixen, sowie als edle, ultra-limitierte
Fan Box. „Die Songs sind alle
innerhalb der letzten zweieinhalb Jahre entstanden. Für die
13 Songs auf dem regulären
Album haben wir uns entschieden, weil sie vom Aufbau her
am besten zueinander passen.
Die drei Bonus-Nummern auf
der Limited Edition hätten es
qualitativ auch auf das Album
geschafft, passten aber nicht
so recht ins Gefüge“, erklärt

“PHENOMENA” (scheduled for
August 2013), the
Berlin-based
quartet releases the new
Maxi-CD “Trial And
Error” right on time

e
believe that the song perfectly complements fan favorites like ‘Immortal’ or
‘Rise And Fall’ in terms of catchiness and
club compatibility and it was also a song
that the audience instantly connected to
at our last gigs”, singer Dennis explains
the Choice. Why think small when you
can go big?” seems to have been the
band’s motto, as the strictly limited release (1000 copies in a hand numbered
Digipak) sports a total of 11 tracks, thus
easily reaching album length. “Well, after such a long wait, we didn’t want to
dish up just 3 songs, hence we asked
several bands for remixes. The main
criterium was not the name factor but
creativity and an innovative approach
and we did actually find some of the
collaborators on Facebook. We also decided to include the extended versions
of ‘Delight’ and ‘Déjà Vu’, as they both
fit hand in glove and also add to the
concept of an EP. We were especially
happy to get People’s Theatre who are
very popular remixers at the time and
the Depeche-Mode-Remix-god Dominatrix into our boat for this release”,
Dennis recounts enthusiastically. We then tried to prod him
about the upcoming album,
which earned us a conspirative
smile: “I don’t want to disclose
too much, but I can already tell
you that ‘PHENOMENA’ will be
released in different versions:
single and double disc editions,
as well as a collector’s set. The
bonus CD will not contain remixes but something special:
an experiment, following the
motto of our band name.” So,

„Trial And Error“ ins
Rennen. „Wir denken,
der Song knüpft nahtlos an Hits, wie ‚Immortal‘
oder ‚Rise
And Fall‘
an. Nicht
wegen der Ähnlichkeit des Namens oder des Sounds, sondern eher wegen seiner Eingängigkeit und garantierter
Clubtauglichkeit. Wir haben bereits einige der neuen
Songs auf Konzerten getestet und ‚Trial And Error‘ funktioniert einfach von selbst und passt zu SE wie die Faust
aufs Auge“,erklärt Sänger Dennis, warum die Wahl auf
diesen Song als Vorabsingle fiel. „Warum denn kleckern,
wenn man auch klotzen kann?“, müssen sich Solitary
Experiments dabei gedacht haben, denn mit stattlichen
11 Titeln erreicht das auf 1000 Stück im handnummerierten Digipak limitierte Kleinod locker Albumlänge. Dennis lacht: „Nun ja, wir meinen es immer gut mit unseren
Hörern und dachten eine Single mit nur 3 Songs wäre für
die lange Wartezeit vielleicht etwas unverschämt... Somit
haben wir den Titeltrack gleich von mehreren Bands remixen lassen. Das Augenmerk bei der Auswahl lag hierbei
mehr auf Kreativität und Innovation. Einige der Kontakte
zu den Künstlern sind tatsächlich über Facebook entstanden... überzeugte die Qualität, kam es zu einer Zusammenarbeit. Als Bonus haben wir uns dazu noch für die
Maxi Versionen von ‚Delight‘ und ‚Déjà Vu‘ entschieden,
da beide perfekt ins Konzept passen und somit die Extended Playtime (EP) unterstreichen. Zudem waren wir
mehr als erfreut, neben einer Version von People Theatre,
die bereits als Remixer in aller Munde sind, sogar einen
Mix von Dominatrix zu bekommen, dem Depeche Mode
Remix-Gott schlechthin“, meint Dennis. Wir versuchen
danach ganz frech, ihm noch ein
paar Details über das kommende Album zu entlocken, woraufhin Dennis verschwörerisch lächelt: „Zuviel möchten wir noch
nicht verraten, bevor es spruchreif ist, aber ‚PHENOMENA‘ wird
in verschiedenen Versionen erscheinen, sprich 1CD, 2CD und
Collector‘s Edition! Die Bonus
CD enthält diesmal garantiert
keine Remixe, sondern etwas
ganz Anderes: ein Experiment,
ganz getreu dem Bandnamen.“
