At least since the “writing culture debate”, in medical anthropology there has been of
increasing interest in narrative theory and practice. The modes of narrative experience,
thought and expression in different local settings are now an important field of
investigation for many scholars of the discipline. Moreover the narrative turn has also
influenced other disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, and the health sciences.
The MAS-Symposium will explore current ideas about narrative perspectives from
different disciplines (Anthropology, Medicine, Linguistics, Medical history, Sociology
and the Arts), in order to discuss their potential for interdisciplinary research and
practice.
