To make things simple, the icons carry stylized versions of Sun (hospitality/ climate), Sea (environment / marine life) and Sand (islands / people / flora and fauna); sand depicted as a piece of coral which are the building blocks of the Maldivian islands. The overlapping of these elements connect each other to resemble the strength of Maldivian tourism industry. The typeface used is specially designed for the logo and is not a font. The character of the typeface has it’s laid back island feel to it. The text being detached to the icons allows the freedom to write ‘VISIT MALDIVES’ in different languages for different markets. The careful selection of colors carry a spectrum of hues seen in the Maldives to reflect its tropical nature; climate, ocean, marine life, people, eco system and way of life. It is also thoughtfully designed in a way that it looks good both on white and black backgrounds. The arrangement of colors used has purpose and design psychology. Both the elements and the colors are arranged in a way to lead the eye of the viewer in a circular motion within the logo with high legibility / visibility of words and icons in one glance. However, it is important to determine what version of the logo will give best results in reproduction according to the size it is being reproduced. 30 mm 20 mm 10 mm 20 mm 10 mm 5 mm V I S I T MALD I V ES Y EA R 2 0 1 6 LO G O USAG E G UID E Proper use of the Logo For consistency the logo should always be used in its original proportions. Distortions and separation of elements of the logo should always be avoided in print and other physical media. If necessary the elements of the logo can be separated for creative video animations provided that the logo in its original format and proportions be viewed in the end. V I S I T MALD I V ES Y EA R 2 0 1 6 LO G O USAG E G UID E Margins and Bounding Box Always leave enough breathing space around the logo. The margins around the logo is determined by the height of the letters ‘YEAR 2016’ as shown in the example below. For reproductions on photographic and other colorful backgrounds, it is more effective to use the logo with its stone shaped white bounding box. This applies to die-cut stickers as well. Leave at least this amount of breathing space around the logo. The margins around the logo is determined by the height of the letters ‘YEAR 2016’. The margins around the landscape logo is determined by the height between the bottom of ‘VISIT’ and the bottom of the logo. Leave at least this amount of breathing space around the logo.
