It was a wonderful experience to be chair of the committee for the 2012 Festival of the Autumn Moon Committee, so I was delighted to be asked to chair this year’s committee. Especially considering the merger with USC which opened new and exciting possibilities. The Festival has always been an A-list event, a special evening spent with people who care about and support art and the museum’s mission of bridging cultures. But this year is even bigger and better. The Festival committee, composed of experienced loyalists with enough new comers to add fresh vision, had the professional guidance of the USC Office of Cultural Relations and University Events, the always hardworking museum staff and Christina Yu Yu our director, special thanks to David Kamansky, Director Emeritus for his curatorial advice. We can promise you a spectacular evening in a beautiful setting, filled with congenial company, fine dining, the fun of the silent auction, the exciting live auction, the paddle auction opportunity to support specific museum programs and updates on museum news and plans. On behalf of the committee, I want to welcome you all. Thank you for coming and supporting USC Pacific Asia Museum. - Priscilla Gibbs, Gala Chair A Special Thanks The David Kamansky Collection The depth and breadth of the silent auction this evening was made possible by the largess, passion and commitment of former USC Pacific Asia Museum Director, David Kamansky. Over the past six months, David curated the 250 plus items along with USC Pacific Asia Museum staff and others, in this evening’s silent auction. Working alongside the museums’ staff, volunteers, committee members and USC Office of Cultural Relations and University Events, David made a significant personal contribution and dedicated countless hours to the success of auctions. In addition to curating the silent auction, we are thankful that David has stewarded the transition to USC around the heritage of the Festival of the Autumn Moon gala. David served as Director of USC Pacific Asia Museum from 1977 to 2003 and is currently the Director Emeritus of the museum. During his tenure at USC Pacific Asia Museum, David was instrumental in acquiring much of the museum’s over 15,000 works of arts and artifacts from Asia and the Pacific Islands, with full awareness of the diverse communities represented in Southern California. Thank you to everyone who made the auction this evening possible. The proceeds for the auction go to support the museum and its programs throughout the year. Last, we thank David personally for his long commitment to USC Pacific Asia Museum and for his passion for the mission of USC Pacific Asia Museum. Many of tonight’s most exciting auction items are gifts from David’s personal and family collection. We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind opportunity.
