Mariners are advised that the single channel, associated with the redevelopment of Manly
Harbour, is now open to vessel traffic. Navigation beacons have been removed and repositioned
within the harbour to reflect the new single channel arrangement as follows:
Special mark Fl Y 3s, at the entrance to the harbour, previously in position latitude 27° 27.1452' S,

Port lateral beacon Fl R 3s, in the old eastern channel, in position latitude 27° 27.2479' S,

Temporary starboard lateral beacon Fl G 3s (refer to NtM 146 (T) of 2009), at the southern end of

Starboard lateral beacon Fl G 3s (refer to NtM 197 (T) of 2009), previously temporarily

the marina facilities within Manly Boat Harbour should utilise the new single channel. The
Trafalgar Street boating facilities may still be accessed by direct use of the main channel to

BRISBANE PILOTAGE AREA
LOCALITY:
MANLY BOAT HARBOUR, MORETON BAY
ACTIVITY:
MARINA DEVELOPMENT AND DREDGING
Refer to Notice: 140 (T) of 2009
Mariners are advised that dredging operations to re-develop the Manly Boat Harbour are
continuing. Works will be predominately in the north-eastern section of the harbour between the
new internal single channel, the RQYS marina and the eastern sea wall.
Dredging will be performed by the clam dredger "KEN HARVEY" which will be attended by the
tugs "SEALION" and "TURTLE" and two 36 metre spoil barges. Operations will be conducted
from Monday to Friday during daylight hours only. The dredge and associated vessels will
display the designated lights and signals and will keep a listening watch on VHF channel 13.
Two off-shore swing moorings, for the use of the floating plant, will remain established to the
north of the Entrance Channel in positions latitude 27° 26.737' S, longitude 153° 12.054' E, and
latitude 27° 26.697' S, longitude 153° 12.137' E. Each mooring will be marked by a yellow
cylindrical buoy exhibiting a flashing yellow light.
The dredger "KEN HARVEY" will be moored using a system of 6 anchors, 4 positioned abeam
and 2 ahead and astern, with mooring wires running between the anchors and the dredger. Buoys
exhibiting a flashing yellow light will mark the position of the anchors in the channel.
Vessels transiting the channel during the working hours will be required to contact the dredger
on VHF channel 13, or by other effective means, to request the side mooring wires in the channel
be lowered to the seabed whilst they pass the dredger, however dependant on weather and wind
conditions these may not be fully slackened, especially when the dredger is not operational.
Marina construction activities also continue both to the east and west of the new single channel,
adjacent to the RQYS marina and William Gunn Jetty. A temporary port lateral mark Fl R 3s and
a temporary starboard lateral mark Fl G 3s have been established to delineate the two
development areas from the new single channel boundary. The position of the marks will be
varied along the development area boundary to meet operational requirements.
Mariners should navigate with caution when operating in the area. Mariners are further advised
to pass the works at slow speed with no wash.
