CASTELLANA CASTELLANA La Castellana è un viaggio nell’arte, tra ville venete e città murate. Nella stagione invernale, molti paesi richiamano le buone forchette grazie alle rassegne dedicate al Radicchio. STORIA E CULTURA Il cuore di questa zona batte a Castelfranco Veneto, città dalle mura rossastre che diede i natali al Giorgione. Il Duomo racchiude innumerevoli tesori (spiccano i nomi del Veronese e di Palma il Giovane), oltre all’unica pala d’altare dipinta dall’artista. A Fanzolo di Vedelago, rigore ed armonia architettonica rendono la palladiana Villa Emo, costruita tra il 1558 e il 1560, inconfondibile. A Riese Pio X nacque Giuseppe Sarto, che da “buon parroco di campagna” arrivò fino al soglio pontificio e alla santificazione, in seguito alla quale il suo paese natale ne prese il nome. La casa di questo Papa di ceto contadino è stata riadattata in Museo e visitabile da curiosi e fedeli. SPORT E NATURA Il fiume di risorgiva più lungo d’Europa, il Sile, sgorga da una polla a Casacorba di Vedelago, generando nella pianura trevigiana una serie di ambienti interessanti per la varietà di flora e fauna. La Castellana ben si presta ad essere esplorata in bicicletta. L’itinerario Bici in Vacanza prevede una tappa che dall’alto corso del Sile arriva alle mura di Castelfranco. Per chi volesse concentrarsi sull’ambiente fluviale, in un paesaggio costellato di antichi mulini, vecchi fabbricati rurali, fauna acquatica, l’ideale è intraprendere il Girasile, anello cicloturistico di 40 km. ENOGASTRONOMIA Il fiore all’occhiello della cucina di queste zone ha un colore rosso screziato, e la forma che ricorda una grande rosa. Il Radicchio Variegato di Castelfranco IGP ha un sapore delicato, può essere dolce o lievemente amarognolo, senza perdere la sua gradevolezza. The area of Castellana is an excursion into art, featuring Venetian villas and walled towns. In the winter, many villages attract food connoisseurs to their festivals promoting Radicchio (red chicory). HISTORY AND CULTURE The pulsating heart of this area is Castelfranco Veneto, the town with red-bricked walls where the painter Giorgione was born. The Cathedral is home to a whole host of treasures (among which the names Veronese and Palma the younger stand out), including the only altarpiece painted by Giorgone. At Fanzolo di Vedelago, architectural rigour and harmony make the Palladian Villa Emo, built between 1558 and 1560, very conspicuous. Riese Pio X is where Giuseppe Sarto was born, who from a “good parish priest” rose to be elected Pope, and later achieved sainthood, following which the town of his birth adopted his name. The peasant farmer style home of Pope Pius 10th has been turned into a Museum and is open to visitors and worshippers. 24 CASTELLANA SPORT AND NATURE The longest resurgence river un Europe, the Sile, flows out of a spring at Casacorba di Vedelago, giving rise in the Treviso lowlands to a series of areas with a wide variety of interesting flora and fauna. The Castellana area is very suitable for exploration by bike. The Bici in Vacanza [Bikes on holiday] itinerary includes a section which, from the upper course of the Sile, extends as far as the walls of Castelfranco. For those preferring to concentrate on the river environment, in a landscape studded with ancient water mills, old farm buildings and aquatic fauna, the best option is take the Girasile, a 40 km cycle loop. FOOD AND WINE The crowning glory of the cuisine in this area is of a mottled red colour, and comes in the shape of a large rose. The Radicchio Variegato of Castelfranco IGP has a delicate taste, it may be sweet or slightly bitter, but without losing any of its appeal. GESCHICHTE UND KULTUR Das “Herz” dieses Gebietes schlägt in Castelfranco Veneto mit seiner mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer und Geburtsstadt von Giorgione. Im Dom von Castelfranco Veneto befinden sich zahlreiche Kunstschätze (besonders nennenswert sind Namen wie Veronese und Palma il Giovane) und das von Giorgione gemalte Altarbild. In Fanzolo di Vedelago steht die zwischen 1558 und 1560 von Palladio erbaute Villa Emo, deren harmonische Architektur unvergleichbar ist. In Riese Pio X wurde Guiseppe Sarto geboren, der seine Laufbahn als “guter Landpfarrer” begann, später dann den päpstlichen Stuhl bestieg und viele Jahre nach seinem Tod heiliggesprochen wurde, infolgedessen seine Geburtstadt seinen Namen annahm. Das Geburtshaus dieses aus bäuerlichen Verhältnissen stammenden Papstes wurde zu einem Museum umgestaltet, das zahlreiche Besucher und Gläubiger anzieht. SPORT UND NATURA Der längste Quellfluss Europas, der Sile, entspringt aus einer Quelle in Casacorba di Vedelago und hat so in der Trevisaner Ebene eine Reihe von interessanten Landschaftsgebieten geschaffen, die sich durch ihre vielfältige Flora und Fauna auszeichnen. Die “Castellana” eignet sich vorzüglich für Radtouren. Die Reiseroute “Bici in Vacanza” sieht eine Etappe vor, die vom hohen Silelauf bis zur Stadtmauer von Castelfranco reicht.
