Christmas Market!
Dear residents of Klagenfurt,
dear guests of the
provincial capital,
At the end of November the most attractive
Christmas market in the Alps-Adriatic region
will be opening its doors once again, right in
the heart of our city. Visitors from all over Europe
come to the Neuer Platz and the Domplatz to
enjoy the traditional customs, art, culture and
typical culinary treats and get in the mood for
the loveliest celebration of the year. If you are
still looking for traditional Christmas gifts, you
will find countless market stalls with Christmas cribs, handicrafts,
hand-made Christmas jewellery or colourful wooden toys.
Our Christmas Market has always focused on traditional customs.
In the wintry atmosphere in Klagenfurt, the sounds of amateur
singing groups, choirs, music schools and international artists
create a wonderful atmosphere for the run-up to Christmas. A
nostalgic merry-go-round, a children’s train and a petting zoo help
to sweeten the wait for Christmas for the little ones.

When the days get shorter and the mountain
tops glisten snowy white in the distance, the
time has come to put up the artistically carved
crib figures and the large Christmas tree on
the Neuer Platz. The Christmas Market outside
Klagenfurt City Hall and the Craft Market on
the Domplatz are two of the most attractive Christmas markets in
the Alpine-Adriatic region and attract thousands of visitors to our
city every year. Handmade Christmas tree decorations, traditional
craft products and home-made Christmas punch all await visitors to
these atmospheric seasonal markets. For children, there is a petting
zoo and artificial ice rink to make the wait for Father Christmas go
a little faster.
I wish you a happy and peaceful Advent and look forward to your
visit to the Christmas Market on the Neuer Platz and the Craft
Market on the Domplatz!
