TREES, SHRUBS & VINES
Acer palmatum 'Beni maiko' (Japanese Maple)
C. dichotoma Wine Spritzer™ 'Shiji Murasaki'
Acer palmatum 'Beni maiko' (Japanese Maple)
Aristolochia tomentosa (Dutchman's
Pipe)
The 'Red-haired Dancing Girl' maple is a
broadly spreading small shrub-like tree that
grows to about 6'. In spring palmate leaves
open brilliant scarlet. Gradually the leaves
darken, finally turning a bluish or reddish green
depending on conditions. New growth through
the season adds flashes of scarlet, turning red
in fall. Zones 6-8. H: 4-5 ft. W: 4-5 ft.
18-24", 1 gal. $35
Pipe vine. This is the preferred food source
for the Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly. Makes
a great native vine for providing shade on a
porch with a victorian affect: needs a trellis
for support. This small downier version of A.
macrophylla occurs from North Carolina and
Missouri south to the Florida Panhandle and
Texas. Zones 5-9. H: 20-30 ft. W: 5-10 ft.
3-6", 1 gal. $15
Acer palmatum 'Hogyoku'
Aronia melanocarpa 'Autumn Magic'
(Black Chokeberry)
Hard to beat for outstanding autumn color, turning brilliant orange. Large seven-lobed leaves
are green in summer. It's a vigorous grower
and not fussy as to soil; best in well drained
but moist location with some afternoon shade.
Mature height is approximately 15'. Zones 6-8.

Acer palmatum 'Kotobuki' (Japanese
Maple)
Japanese for "long life", this recent introduction
has bright pink new foliage and variegated
stems. Holds up reasonably well in full sun.
Quite new so we don't know too much about
it! Possibly AKA 'Murasaki Shikibu' named for
the female author of "The Tale of Genji", written
in Japanese between about 1000 and 1012.

Acer palmatum 'Mama Fu'
Del Laux. NEW! Rare upright twiggy tree,
slow growing, small leaves green, white and
generous amounts of pink and white mostly in
the leaf centers. Maple expert Matt Nichols describes it as looking "almost like a reverse 'Beni
shechenge' with the pink and green." Picture is
of 'Beni shechenge' so use your imagination!
Zones -. H: 6-8 ft. W: 3-4 ft.
3-4', 3 gal. add extra shipping $65
Acer palmatum 'Omure yama'
A choice small tree: upright, but lent a
willow-like grace by its strongly drooping
branch tips. The deeply-cut palmate leaves
begin orange-bordered green, turn solid bright
summer green, and end spectacular crimsons
and golds. Good heat tolerance. At maturity,
this maple can reach 15' in height and more
across. Zones 6-8. H: 10-15 ft. W: 12-18 ft.
15-18", 3 gal. $45
Acer palmatum 'Searles Variegated'
Upright, vase shaped tree with deeply divided
variegated leaves. Green leaves are edged
in wide swatches of light pink and white. In
autumn the leaves turn a lovely shade of
orange. Slow Growing. Zones 5-8. H: 12-15 ft.
W: 10-12 ft.
3-4', 3 gal. add extra shipping $65
This selection grows more compact than the
norm, and is known for it's excellent red and
purple autumn foliage. In the spring it is covered in fragrant white flowers. The flowers are
followed by clusters of large, edible dark-blue
to black berries that stay on the plant through
winter. Self pollinating, so you only need one
for fruit. Zones 4-8. H: 5-7 ft. W: 5-7 ft.
15-18", 1 gal. $25
Buxus 'Gibraltar' (Boxwood)
From cuttings collected at the Gibraltar Estate
in Wilmington DE, a formal garden designed by
the famous landscape architect Marian Cruger
Coffin. A medium-sized grower that would
benefit from a pruning in spring or summer (but
never winter). Boxwoods do best with some
shade, especially in the afternoon. Zones 6-8.
H: 3-4 ft. W: 3-4 ft.
10-15", 1 gal. $25
Buxus microphylla 'File Leaf' (Boxwood)
NEW! The branch profile looks like a file, thus
the name. Upright-growing plants have small,
narrow evergreen leaves. Enjoys shade in
warmer climates; best grown where the root
zone can be mulched and left undisturbed. Like
most boxwoods, this one tolerates shearing
and so can be used in hedges. Limited quantity
available. Zones 4-9. H: 4-5 ft. W: 4-5 ft.
10-15", 1 gal. $25
Buxus sempervirens 'Aurea Pendula'
Boxwood
Not really a weeping plant as the name would
imply. The rich green leaves of this boxwood
are variegated with golden yellow, making a
beautiful specimen plant with gracefully arching
branchlets. Like most boxwood it is fairly slow
growing. Grows in sun to moderate shade in
well-drained acidic soil. Zones 7-10. H: 6-8 ft.
W: 4-6 ft.
10-15", 1 gal. $25
Callicarpa dichotoma Wine Spritzer™
'Shiji Murasaki' (Beautyberry)
Colorful leaves splashed with white and
speckled with green set off by pink petioles add
pizzazz and panache to full sun or part shade.
Striking! Produces some lavender-pink flowers
but rarely produces much fruit. Likes welldrained soil. Use as a landscape specimen or
for mass plantings or screens. Zones 6-8. H:
6-8 ft. W: 6-8 ft.
