“Stillness, steel and stars”–Advent in Linz
As the days get shorter, Linz takes on an even more radiant appearance. The scent of
Christmas markets and the cake shops with their gingerbread and “Linzer Torte”, the lights of
the city’s silhouette, with its mix of the modern and the historical and the temptations of
shopping at Linzer City shorten the wait ahead of Christmas.

The baroque main square in Linz is the backdrop for the “Christkindlmarkt” with its appealing
mix of local crafts, warm punch and delicious gingerbread.

A stroll around the stalls, sampling the products, buying beautiful Christmas gifts, being
tempted by the delicious smell of the sausages barbecuing over charcoal – a visit to one of the
many Linz Christmas markets heightens pleasure of the run-in to Christmas!

families for a celebration of Saint Nicholas’ Day in the Main Hall (Grosser Saal).

Even in winter, boats set off from Linz on trips along the Danube Valley. The early dusk
provides for a wholly special spectacle: the artistic backdrop of the lights of the Linz bridges
