Die Geschichte der Gonzaga ist eng
mit dem Rinascimento, der italienischen Renaissance verbunden, die
Herzöge von Mantova werden sogar
von Shakespeare in „Der Sturm“ und
von Verdi in seinem Rigoletto zitiert.
Verdi selbst wurde in der Nähe von
Sabbioneta, der wunderbaren „Città
Ideale“, geboren, die um 1580 vom
Herzog Vespasiano Gonzaga erbaut
wurde, mit dem Gedanken einen von
Athen und Rom der Antike inspirierten Ort zu errichten. Seine Utopie hat
ihn zwar nicht überlebt, Sabbioneta
ist aber immer noch eine „schlafende
Schönheit“, die zum Weltkulturerbe
der UNESCO gehört. Sie ist die Umsetzung der urbanistischen Utopien
der Renaissance, ein Ausdruck des
Geschmacks dieser Zeit und bietet
uns einen außergewöhnlichen Zeitzeugen für Urbanistik, Kunst und Architektur in der Interpretation der
Gonzaga. Architektur und Verbreitung der Renaissancekultur verleihen

La storia dei Gonzaga è strettamente connessa al Rinascimento, e i
Duchi di Mantova sono citati da Shakespeare nella Tempesta e da Verdi
nel Rigoletto. Verdi nacque poco lontano da Sabbioneta, la magnifica
“Città Ideale” edificata verso il 1580 dal Duca Vespasiano Gonzaga,
che volle creare un luogo ispirato alle antiche Atene e Roma. La sua
utopia non gli sopravvisse, ma Sabbioneta resta una città “bella e addormentata”, inclusa nel Patrimonio Mondiale UNESCO.
Essa rappresenta la realizzazione delle utopie urbanistiche del periodo, espressione dell’esattezza del gusto rinascimentale. Ci offre testimonianze eccezionali del Rinascimento urbanistico, artistico e
architettonico nell’interpretazione dei Gonzaga.
Sabbioneta ha grande importanza per l’architettura e per la diffusione
della cultura rinascimentale. E’ impossibile descrivere in dettaglio tutti
i suoi tesori, ma credeteci, vale davvero la pena di venire qui, al centro
della pianura padana, varcare la cinta muraria e passeggiare sugli antichi selciati silenziosi, dal meraviglioso Teatro All’Antica al Palazzo
Ducale, all’imponente Galleria, alle tante chiese coi loro tesori d’arte…
Gli ideali e il gusto rinascimentale che si identificano coi Gonzaga si ritrovano anche nella gastronomia: il gusto dolce e agrodolce dei tortelli di zucca era proprio quello prevalente in quel periodo, e si
accompagna mirabilmente con un bicchiere di rosso e spumeggiante
Lambrusco.

The history of the Gonzaga Family
is strictly linked with Italian Rinascimento, and the Dukes of
Mantua have been remembered by
Shakespeare in The Tempest and
Giuseppe Verdi in Rigoletto.
Verdi was born a few kilometers
from Sabbioneta, the beautiful
“ideal city” of Rinascimento, rebuilt in the 1580s by the Duke Vespasiano Gonzaga, who planned to
create a place based on the ideas
of ancient Athens and Rome. After
his death, his dream didn’t survive,
but Sabbioneta is still a magnificent, small and quiet “sleepy beautiful town” included in UNESCO’s
World Heritage List.
Sabbioneta represents the implementation of the period’s theories
about planning the ideal city. It can
be described as a single-period city
and has a right angle grid layout. It
offers exceptional testimonies to
the urban, architectural and artistic realizations of the Renaissance,
linked through the visions and actions of the ruling Gonzaga family.
Sabbioneta is important for the
value of its architecture and for the
prominent role in the dissemination of Renaissance culture. It is
impossible to describe all these
treasures of art, so trust us, you
have to come here, in the centre of
the river Po valley, enter the city
walls, and walk along these silent
cobbled streets, from the marvelous Theatre to the Palace of the
Duke, and the Gallery, and the
churches, and their masterpieces...
The ideals of the Renaissance, fostered by the Gonzaga family, are
present in the town’s morphology
and architecture, and they also
survive in the traditional recipe of
“tortelli di zucca”: their sweet-andsour taste is the real taste of that
century, to be paired with a glass
of fizzy red Lambrusco.

From dream to myth: Vom Traum zum
Napoleon in Marengo, Mythos: Napoleon in
forever
Marengo, für immer
“Our dreams can come true”, said
Le Corbusier, and the new European Museum of Marengo is now a
dream come true, thanks to
Alessandria Province. Pyramids
had been a really fascinating myth
in the 18th century, and Napoleon
dreamt of having his own, after
visiting Giza in 1798. In 1805 he
ordered his General Berthier to
build a Pyramid in Marengo, to
commemorate the battle they won
there on 14 June 1800. The project was never carried out, but
now, more than 200 years later,
Napoleon’s dream has come true,
to remember the date that
changed European history.
Last May, 23rd the Pyramid had
been opened in front of the
Marengo Museum, at Villa Delavo
in Spinetta Marengo (Alessandria).
The Museum is now completely
restored, with ancient original
frescos and mosaics, and a modern multimedia permanent exhibition. Get into the history, in

Kühnheit: sie können verwirklicht werden” sagte Le Corbusier, ein Ausspruch,
den sich die Provinz Alessandria mit
dem neuen „Museo Europeo“ zu eigen
gemacht hat. Im 18. Jahrhundert verbreitete sich in Europa die „Faszination
Pyramide“, Napoleon besuchte 1798 die
von Giza und träumte seitdem von “seiner” Pyramide. 1805 befahl er General
Berthier schriftlich in Erinnerung an die
am 14. Juni 1800 gewonnene Schlacht in
Marengo dort eine zu bauen. Aber erst
zwei Jahrhunderte später wurde sein
Traum Realität, durch ein Projekt, mit
dem an das Datum erinnert wird, an
dem die europäische Geschichte eine
Wendung nahm. Am 23. Mai wurde in
Spinetta Marengo, einem Vorort von
Alessandria, eine Pyramide eingeweiht,
die dem Museum in Villa Delavo als Eingang dient. Alessandria verfügt jetzt
über einen neuen Anziehungspunkt. Die
Schönheit der restaurierten Fresken und
Mosaiken der Ausstellungssäle bildet
einen faszinierenden Rahmen für das interaktive Multimedia-Museum, das den
Besucher in seinen Bann zieht.

“Ecco ciò che dà robustezza ai nostri sogni: essi possono essere realizzati”
diceva Le Corbusier, una frase che la Provincia di Alessandria ha opportunamente fatto sua per accogliere coloro che visitano il nuovissimo
Museo Europeo di Marengo.
Nel settecento si diffuse in Europa il fascino della piramide. Nel 1798
Napoleone visitò quella Giza e da allora coltivò il sogno della “sua” piramide. Tanti furono i progetti, ma l’unica realizzata è a Marengo. Il 6
maggio 1805, in una lettera, l’Imperatore comandava al generale Berthier che sul campo della battaglia vinta il 14 giugno 1800 fosse posta
la prima pietra. Quel progetto non fu mai realizzato. Il sogno di Napoleone è diventato realtà due secoli dopo, con un progetto che dà forza
all’utopia e ottimismo alla ragione, quella della Provincia di Alessandria che ha sempre creduto nel valore del luogo che ha cambiato la storia d’Europa.
Il 23 maggio a Spinetta Marengo, industrioso sobborgo alle porte di
Alessandria, è stata inaugurata la piramide che fa da ingresso al Museo
di Villa Delavo. E’ qui la nuova attrattiva storico-culturale di interesse
internazionale. L’opera di restauro, effettuata a tempo di record, ha restituito alla città di Alessandria un suo tesoro splendido con contenuti
nuovi. La bellezza delle sale espositive, con affreschi e mosaici perfettamente recuperati, fa da cornice ad un museo interattivo, multimediale che coinvolge davvero il visitatore.

La parola Franciacorta, che deriva probabilmente da un’antica zona extradoganale, definisce non solo la bella area collinare compresa tra
il lago d’Iseo e Brescia, ma anche un vino spumante docg e il suo stesso metodo produttivo.
La Franciacorta comprende 23 comuni, ed è
stata definita “il santuario dello spumante italiano”. Come accade per lo Champagne, il nome
stesso indica un vino spumante prodotto col
metodo classico della fermentazione in bottiglia. I vini di base sono da vitigni Chardonnay,
Pinot Nero e Pinot Bianco, messi in bottiglia con
lieviti selezionati. Dopo un minimo di 18 mesi
di fermentazione, ma per il Satèn e il Rosè si arriva fino a oltre 24 mesi) si fa la sboccatura e
l’imbottigliamento definitivo. Per il Franciacorta
Vintage, il disciplinare impone una permanenza
sui lieviti di almeno 30 mesi, e 60 mesi per il
Franciacorta Riserva. Il nome Satèn è stato registrato per definire il “blanc de blancs”, prodotto
da sole uve bianche: è anche caratterizzato da
una pressione in bottiglia inferiore, meno di 5
atmosfere, che gli conferisce più morbidezza al
palato.
Il Franciacorta ha perlage fine e delicato, colore
paglierino chiaro o più intenso con riflessi verdolini. Al naso offre aromi di lieviti e crosta di
pane, con eleganti note di agrumi e frutta secca
(mandorla, nocciola, fichi). Il gusto è sapido, fresco e armonico, con grande finezza. Un grande
vino da inizio a fine pasto, ma le differenti tipologie offrono la possibilità di abbinamenti più
specifici con ogni cibo. Ciascun tipo di Franciacorta ha una sua distinta personalità. Alla vostra salute!

Franciacorta is not only a name, coming from an ancient “Curtis Franca”, a medieval “duty free” zone.
The word stands for a well-defined area in Italy, the
beautiful hills between Lake Iseo and Brescia, as well
as for a DOCG wine and its method of production.
Now Franciacorta includes 23 towns, and has been
called “Italy’s Sanctuary of Sparkling Wine”. When
opening a Franciacorta bottle, you know that the
wine, like Champagne, is sparkling and produced
with the classic method of fermentation in the bottle. The base wine is made with Chardonnay, Pinot
Noir and Pinot Bianco grapes and inoculated seven
month later with yeasts and then bottled. A minimum of eighteen months of slow bottle refermentation with yeasts contact will have to pass before it is
disgorged, while for non-vintage Satèn and Rosé
times are even longer: up to twenty-four months. For
vintage Franciacortas, the production protocol demands a minimum period of thirty months of ageing on the yeasts in bottle. Much more patience is
needed to taste a Franciacorta Riserva: winemaking
and maturation continue for at least sixty-seven
months after the vintage, sixty of which are spent in
bottle on the lees. Franciacorta Satèn is a registered
name for blanc de blanc, with lower pressure in the
bottle, less than five atmospheres, which gives it its
special softness in the mouth.
Franciacorta has very fine, lingering perlage; pale or
intense straw yellow with greenish highlights; nuanced but distinct yeasty notes of crusty bread, accompanied by subtle clove-led spice-lifted hints of
fresh and dried fruits, including almonds, hazelnuts
and dried figs; pleasing savouriness and freshness
on the palate.
Enjoy it as a superb wine to drink throughout the meal.
The various flavour types can be matched with an extremely wide range of foods and products. Each wine
type has its own distinct personality. Enjoy it, and remember that the Italian for “prosit” is “Salute!”

Flasche hergestellt wird. Die
Basisweine bestehen aus Chardonnay-, Pinot Nero- und Pinot
Bianco-Trauben und kommen
mit ausgewählten Hefen in die
Flasche. Nach mindestens 18
Monaten Gärung, bei Satèn und
Rosè sind es sogar mehr als 24,
werden sie degorgiert (entheft)
und verkorkt. Für den Franciacorta „Vintage“ sehen die Bestimmungen eine Verweildauer
von mindestens 30 Monaten
auf den Hefen vor, bei der
Franciacorta Riserva sogar 60.
Der Name Satèn wurde registriert, um einen „Blanc de
Blancs“ allein aus weißen Trauben festzulegen, er zeichnet
sich mit weniger als 5 atm
auch durch einen geringen Flaschendruck aus, was ihm besondere Weichheit im Gaumen
verleiht.
Der Franciacorta hat eine feine
Perlage, ist hell oder auch
etwas intensiver strohgelb, mit
grünlichen Reflexen. Der Nase
bietet er Hefe- und Brotkrustenaroma, mit eleganten Zitrusund Trockenobst-Noten (Mandel, Haselnuss, Feige). Im Geschmack ist er würzig, frisch
und harmonisch, sehr fein. Ein
großartiger Wein für Beginn
und Abschluss eines Mahls,
seine verschiedenen Sorten
machen aber auch die Begleitung jeder Art von Speisen
möglich, denn jede Franciacorta-Sorte hat ihre eigene Persönlichkeit. Deshalb: „Alla
vostra salute!“

Carmignano’s Dried Fig:
absolute natural sweetness
A few kilometers from Prato, a very busy city, sometimes similar to
Dante’s hell because of traffic, you enter the Paradise of Carmignano,
a small town surrounded by silent, quiet and beautiful hills. This is the
real, classic Tuscan countryside, with some architectural pearls such
as the Villa Medicea dei Cento Camini (100 chimneys) in Artimino.
Here the Carmignano docg, a very good red wine, is produced, and they
grow fig-trees since ancient times. Figs are needed to produce the Fico
Secco di Carmignano, a small, double-heart shaped delicacy.
The variety of figs is the green-skinned “dottato”, whose pulp goes
from intense red to light pink when ripe. The figs are hand-picked when
they are very ripe, are then partly opened and dried “standing” on cane
mats. Now they are “sulphur smoked” to get white colour. After that,
they are dried in sunshine for five days and then stored for 60 days,
natural sugars will create a sweet caramel-like skin over their surface.
At the end, 2 figs are coupled with fennel seeds between them: delicious!

fico verde fuori e bianco sotto la
buccia, con una polpa che può
variare dal rosso intenso (nelle
fasi iniziali della maturazione),
al rosa chiaro verso la fine del
periodo di raccolta. I fichi devono essere perfettamente maturi e raccolti a mano e staccati
con il loro picciolo intatto.
Per l’essicazione i fichi vengono
parzialmente aperti e posti “in
piedi” su delle stuoie di canna.
Accanto si accende dello zolfo
per sviluppare anidride solforosa. Questa “areazione” serve
per ottenere fichi secchi con la
buccia bianca. Quindi si mettono
al sole per 4-5 giorni. Dopo l’essiccazione vengono stoccati in
un luogo asciutto per circa 1-2
mesi affinché si formi una pellicola di zucchero quasi caramellato sulla sua superficie. Sono
poi accoppiati mettendo tra i
due fichi (tocco finale!) dei semi
di finocchio. Che Bontà!

caldo, rumore, demoni motorizzati che attraversano lo spazio
davanti a voi e, per poco, anche
voi. Questo è Prato! Grande cittadina industriale toscana. A
pochi chilometri da quest’inferno si trova però il Paradiso,
sotto forma di un panorama collinare silente e verdeggiante e di
una piccola cittadina dove è
bello vivere: Carmignano. Immersa nella più classica campagna toscana, ha alcune chicche
storico-architettoniche come la
Villa Medicea dei Cento camini
di Artimino che da sole valgono
il viaggio.
Qui, si produce un ottimo vino
(il Carmignano DOCG) e si coltiva il fico. Anzi, il fico è coltivato da sempre per produrre
quella piccola cosa dolcissima a
forma di doppio cuore (o di otto
per i meno romantici) che è il
Fico Secco di Carmignano.

Im Vergleich zum chaotischen Prato, das wie Dantes Inferno wirkt,
ist das nur wenige Kilometer entfernte Carmignano ein Paradies inmitten einer ruhigen und grünen, typisch toskanischen Hügellandschaft. Allein für die architektonische Kostbarkeiten wie die „Villa
Medicea dei Cento camini“ von Artimino, würde sich schon eine
Reise lohnen.
Hier werden sowohl guter Wein (Carmignano DOCG) als auch Feigen angebaut, aus denen seit jeher eine kleine süße Köstlichkeit in
Form eines doppelten Herzens hergestellt wird, die sich „Fico Secco
di Carmignano“ nennt.
Die Farbe des Fruchtfleisches der grünschaligen „Dottato“ reicht
von anfangs intensiv rot bis zu hellrosa am Ende der Reife. Die Feigen werden per Hand mit ihrem Stängel geerntet, etwas geöffnet
und zum Trocken auf Schilfmatten aufgereiht, neben denen Schwefel entzündet wird; durch das entstehende Schwefeltrioxid bekommen die getrockneten Feigen ihre weiße Schale. Danach liegen die
Früche 4 - 5 Tage lang in der Sonne und werden dann an einem
trockenen Ort ca. 60 Tage gelagert, bis sich an ihrer Oberfläche eine
natürliche Zuckerhaut bildet. Zuletzt werden je zwei Trockenfeigen
zusammengedrückt, wobei ein paar Fenchelsamen zwischen sie gelegt werden. Einfach köstlich!

Die Festung beherbergt heute das Alpen-Museum, hier finden kulturelle Veranstaltungen
statt und bis zum 30. August kann man die auf
mehr als 2000 qm ausgerichtete Ausstellung
„Verso l’alto. L’ascesa come esperienza del
sacro” (Nach oben, der Aufstieg als religiöse Erfahrung) besuchen.
Thema der Ausstellung ist der symbolische, geistige und anthropologische Wert des Gebirges,
auch bei Kulturen, die in Raum und Zeit weit
auseinander liegen; tatsächlich kann man das
Gebirge als Symbol für die Verbindung von Himmel und Erde, dem Sichtbaren und dem Unsichtbaren, zwischen Mensch und Gottheit
wiederfinden.
In den Räumen der Schießscharten können
Werke von Meistern wie Donatello und Marc
Chagall bewundert werden, während im Wachraum ein Video mit den Etappen eines Aufstiegs
auf große Höhe unter Leitung des Alpinisten
Abele Blanc zu sehen ist.

An der engsten Stelle des Aosta-Tals, dort, wo
die Felswände der Schlucht nur wenig Abstand
haben, erhebt sich die Festung von Bard, ein
mächtiges Bollwerk aus der savoyischen Epoche, das den Felsvorsprung, auf dem es errichtet wurde, vollständig einnimmt.
Der zwischen der Dora Baltea und dem Felsvorsprung eingeschnittene Durchgang geht auf römische Zeit zurück und gehört zur „Via
Consolare delle Gallie“, der Konsularstraße Galliens. Bedeutend wurde der Ort durch seine für
die Transitkontrolle strategische Lage, die erste
Nennung einer Festung geht auf 1034 zurück,
es ist aber anzunehmen, dass es sie in irgendeiner Form bereits in vorrömischer Zeit gab.
Die heutige, vom Militäringenieur Francesco Antonio Oliviero entworfene Festung, wurde zwischen
1830 und 1838 auf den Ruinen einer Burg errichtet, die 1800 von den 40.000 Männern der napoleonischen Truppen zerstört wurde, die sie nach
15 Tagen zäher Belagerung erobern konnten.

Nel punto più stretto della
Valle d’Aosta, dove le pareti di
roccia della gola sono a poca

di Bard un’imponente opera di
sbarramento di epoca sabauda
che occupa interamente lo sperone roccioso sul quale è stato
edificato.
Il passaggio tra la Dora Baltea
e lo strapiombo tagliato nella
roccia risale all’epoca romana
ed è parte della Via Consolare
delle Gallie. La posizione strategica per il controllo dei transiti rese il sito di importanza
vitale e risale al 1034 la prima

The passage between the

Alle ore 17 messa solenne all’oratorio di San
Rocco e processione religiosa con la statua della
Madonna delle Grazie portata sulle spalle. Antica tradizione risalente alla seconda metà del
‘700. Prima di riportare in San Rocco la statua, i
portatori la fanno “ballare” seguiti nella danza
dai portatori dei Cristi.
