Der FSC Deutschland nimmt in Kooperation mit FSC Niederlande erstmals auf der Anuga FoodTec teil, um die Marktdynamik „Grüne Verpackung“ zu begleiten. Wir helfen Produzenten, FSC-gekennzeichnete Verpackung herzustellen und
informieren über Möglichkeiten und das Marktpotential des
FSC-Zeichens. Faseranteile mit FSC-Nachweis sind eine
Top-Option, wenn es um die Umstellung auf nachwachsende
Rohstoffe geht, denn schon die Verpackung signalisiert dem
Verbraucher den ganzheitlichen Ansatz: Wichtig ist nicht allein
der Inhalt, sondern auch das Drumherum!

consumables from responsible forestry. The FSC logo is an
opportunity to find FSC certified products and to actively ask
for them furthermore: It empowers you to develop modern
marketing strategies that satisfy the customer’s demand for
responsibility, social equity and environment protection.
For the first time FSC Germany, in cooperation with FSC
Netherlands, participates at the Anuga FoodTec to attend to
the market dynamics of “Green Packaging”. We help producers to manufacture FSC-certified packaging and we inform
about opportunities and the market potential of the FSC logo.
Fibre components with FSC claim are a top option when
changing to renewable resources, because already the packaging communicates a holistic approach: Not only the content
matters, but also the wrapping!

gelten dieselben 10 Prinzipien und 56 Kriterien. Diese sind
Grundlage eines jeden nationalen FSC-Standards.
33Interessenausgleich: Wirtschaftliche, soziale und
Umweltinteressen haben gleiches Gewicht.
33Glaubwürdigkeit: Der FSC wird als einziges
Zertifizierungssystem weltweit von allen großen
Umweltverbänden unterstützt (u.a. WWF, Greenpeace,
BUND, NABU).
33Jährliche Prüfung: Ein FSC-Zertifikat wird erst nach
erfolgreicher Vor-Ort-Prüfung eines Forstbetriebes vergeben
und jährlich vor Ort kontrolliert.
33Bürgerbeteiligung: Bei der Zertifizierung werden lokale
Interessensvertreter beteiligt. Vorgebrachte Kritik wird im
Forstbetrieb überprüft.

33Kontrollierte Quellen: In FSC-zertifizierten Mix-Produkten
findet sich kein Holz aus illegalem Einschlag oder von
gentechnisch veränderten Bäumen. Schäden an Wäldern
mit hohen Schutzwerten und Waldumwandlung werden
vermieden.
33Uniformity: FSC is consistent – worldwide. Audits follow the
same rules. Globally the same 10 principles and 56 criteria
are applied. They form the basis for every national FSCstandard.
33Balance of interests: Economical, social and environmental
interests are weighted equally.
33Credibility: The FSC is the only certification system
worldwide that is supported by all the relevant environmental
organizations such as WWF, Greenpeace etc.
33Annual Audit: The FSC-certificate is issued only after an
on-site-inspection in the forest management unit and is
re-audited annually.
33Participation: Local stakeholders are involved in the
certification process. Submitted claims are reassessed in the
forest operation.
33Transparency: Each annual audit report of every forest
management unit and corresponding corrective action
requests are published.
33Ecology: FSC-certified forest enterprises conserve rare and
endangered species, promote non-chemical methods of pest
management and do not use genetically modified trees.
33Controlled Sources: In FSC-certified MIX products wood
from illegal logging, conversion of natural forests and
genetically modified trees and damage to high conservation
values is effectively avoided. Wood from logging activities
that violate traditional and civil rights is also avoided.

EU-Regelung gegen Plastiktüten –
FSC-zertifizierte Papiertüten
als nachhaltige Alternative
Über 5.000.000.000.000 Plastikteilchen schwimmen in unseren Meeren – das publizierte jüngst der Spiegel zur Müllbelastung der Ozeane. Plastikpartikel zersetzen sich nur langsam, belasten lange das Ökosystem und gelangen somit in die
Nahrungskette. Seit Anfang 2014 beraten sich die zuständigen
Ministerien der Europäischen Union (EU) zum Verbrauch von
Einwegtüten aus Plastik. Der jährliche Verbrauch dünnwandiger Plastiktüten soll von zur Zeit durchschnittlich rund 200
Tüten auf ca. 40 Tüten pro Kopf bis zum Jahr 2025 gesenkt
werden. Seit Februar 2015 ist es beschlossene Sache.
Um die Zahl der Tüten mit Wandstärke von 50 μm oder weniger zu senken, dürfen EU-Länder die Beutel besteuern oder
national sogar verbieten. Die Bundesregierung prüft derzeit
die Möglichkeiten einer Umsetzung in Deutschland. Zusätzlich sollen Anreize zur Einsparung von Plastikmaterialien und
zur Verwendung alternativer Materialien geschaffen werden.
Auch der Bereich Verpackungen u.v.a. der Lebensmittelverpackungen steht vor der Aufgabe: sparen und vermeiden –
Recyclingmaterial nutzen –alternative Materialien verwenden.
Für viele Anwendungen können faserbasierte Materialien eine
sinnvolle Alternative sein – wenn sichergestellt wird, dass dieser Verbrauch nicht zur Waldzerstörung oder anderen nicht
nachhaltigen Praktiken bei der Bewirtschaftung führt!

An diesem Punkt kommt der FSC ins Spiel!
Die Förderung von Papierprodukten aus FSC-zertifizierter
Waldwirtschaft ist eine Entscheidung für ein global erfolgreiches und glaubwürdiges Label. Aufgrund seiner strengen
Anforderungen, seiner Transparenz und Zuverlässigkeit steht
FSC für ökologische und soziale Verantwortung. FSC hat sich
als Label mit hohem Wiedererkennungswert im Bereich der
Holz und Papierprodukte ebenso durchgesetzt wie beim Verbraucher. Gleichzeitig bietet die FSC-Zertifizierung für Produzenten und Abnehmer auch Wettbewerbschancen in einer
Welt, die nachhaltiger wird.
Die Entscheidung dazu liegt bei jedem Einzelnen: Plastikmüll
vermeiden oder Papierfasern aus verantwortungsvoller Waldwirtschaft oder aus Recycling wählen.
Gute Gründe für die FSC-zertifizierte Papiertüte:
33Produktbasis für die Papiertüte ist der nachwachsende
Rohstoff Holz, welcher aus Wäldern stammt, die dank des
FSC-Zertifikats verantwortungsvoll bewirtschaftet werden.
33Gute Waldwirtschaft fördert die Biodiversität und stärkt
33soziale Aspekte.
33Verringerung des Ausstoßes klimarelevanter Gase durch
den Verzicht auf Erdöl als Rohstoff
33Mehrfachnutzung durch Recycling (bis zu 7 Mal)
33Verringerung der Müllproduktion
33Kurze Zersetzungsdauer von ca. 6 Monaten im Gegensatz
von bis zu 500 Jahren bei Kunststoffen

EU-initiative to ban plastic bags –
FSC-certified paper bags
offer a sustainable alternative
More than 5,000,000,000,000 particles of plastic are floating
in our oceans – this was recently published by the Spiegel
(German news magazine) to the oceans’ waste load. Plastic
hardly decomposes and therefore lingers in ecosystems for a
very long time and so ends up in the food chain. One can only
presume to say what the long-term-effects on human beings
and the environment will actually be. To overcome this problem,
we need solutions. Since the beginning of 2014 the responsible
ministers of the European Union (EU) consulted the consumption of disposable plastic bags. The annual consumption of thinwalled plastic bags should be decreased from an average of
currently app. 200 bags to 40 bags per capita until 2025. Since
February 2015 this is conclusively decided.
In order to reduce the number of bags – with a material thickness of 50 μm or less – EU countries are allowed to tax or to nationally ban them. The German government currently examines
possible implementations for Germany. Additionally incentives
to economise plastic materials and to use alternative materials shall be developed. Also the packaging branch, especially
in consumable packaging is facing this task: avoiding – using
recycling materials – using alternative materials. Fiber-based
components can be an ecologically alternative for many applications - if it is ensured that this consumption does not lead to
deforestation or other non-sustainable management practices!

The promotion of paper products from FSC certified forestry is a decision for a globally successful and credible label.
Due to its strict requirements, its transparency and reliability
FSC stands for environmental and social responsibility and
has become a label with high recognition for paper and wood
products, as well as a high recognition for consumers. At the
same time FSC certification also offers competitive advantages for producers and consumers in a world that becomes
more sustainable.
It is up to you to avoid plastic waste and make use of paper
fibers from responsible forestry or the recycling cycle.

der Weg der FSC-Verpackung
Überprüfung des Forstbetriebes
Unabhängige Zertifizierer überprüfen jährlich im Forstbetrieb,
ob die FSC-Standards eingehalten und umgesetzt werden.
Das FSC-Zertifikat erhalten nur verantwortungsvoll bewirtschaftete Wälder, die nach den Umwelt-, Wirtschafts- und Sozialstandards des FSC geprüft wurden.
Kontrolle der Verarbeiter und Händler
Unabhängige Zertifizierer überprüfen im Verarbeitungsbetrieb
oder beim Händler, ob die FSC-Standards eingehalten und
umgesetzt werden. Ist dies der Fall, erhält das Unternehmen
das FSC-Zertifikat. Nur Holz oder Holzprodukte aus überprüften Unternehmen dürfen mit dem FSC-Siegel gekennzeichnet
werden.

Überwachung der Kennzeichnung
Die zugelassenen Zertifizierer des FSC überwachen die
ordnungsgemäße Verwendung des FSC-Logos mit Angabe
der Lizenznummer auf Produkten. Zusätzlich wird sichergestellt, dass die jeweilige FSC-Kennzeichnung, die aus dem
Rohstoffeinsatz hervorgeht, auf dem Produkt verwendet wird.
Überwachung der Werbung mit dem FSC-Zeichen
In Werbematerialien wie Katalogen dürfen Verarbeiter und
Händler mit einer eigenen Nummer für FSC-zertifizierte Produkte werben.
FSC 100%: Das Holz dieses Produktes stammt
ausschließlich aus FSC-zertifiziertem Wald. Das
Holz muss von nicht-zertifiziertem stets getrennt
gelagert, gehandelt und verarbeitet werden.
Eine Vermischung darf nicht stattfinden.
FSC Mix: Bei der Produktion wurde Holz aus
FSC-zertifizierten Wäldern, kontrollierten Quellen und Recyclingmaterial verwendet. FSCzertifiziertes Material oder Post-ConsumerRecycling wird entweder zu mindestens 70%
eingesetzt oder es wird eine mindestens äquivalente Menge im Prozess verwendet, um die
gekennzeichneten Waren herzustellen.
FSC Recycled: Für dieses Produkt wurde
ausschließlich Gebrauchtholz oder Altpapier
verwendet. Das Material muss seinen Einsatzzweck erfüllt haben – beispielsweise ein
Magazin, welches über den Haushaltsabfall
wieder eingesammelt wurde.

Audit of the forest operation
Independent certifiers verify annually that the forest operation adheres to and implements the FSC certification requirements. Only responsibly managed forests, which are FSCcertified according to the environmental, economic and social
standards, will receive the FSC certificate.

Independent certifiers verify if the standards are observed and
implemented by the manufacturer or retailer. If this applies,

Monitoring of advertising with the FSC label
In advertising material such as catalogues, manufacturers and
retailers are only allowed to advertise using their own number.
FSC 100%: This product contains 100% material from FSC-certified forests. The wood
has to be strictly separated from non-certified
material in storage, processing and trade. No
mixing is allowed.
FSC Mix: To manufacture this product timber
from well-managed FSC certified forests, controlled wood avoiding unacceptable practices
