Sehr geehrte Messebesucher, liebe Leser,
sich auf dem Liegestuhl im Garten oder auf dem Balkon zu entspannen, ist wohl die beliebteste Kurz-Erholungsart während
der warmen Jahreszeit. Wer möchte sich da schon Gedanken
darüber machen, woher das Holz für die Produktion der Liege
kommt oder welcher Baum gerade als Kohle beim Grillen verfeuert wird?
Diese Green Pages geben Hilfestellung für Marktteilnehmer
und Verbraucher, die Gartenholzprodukte aus verantwortungsvoller Waldwirtschaft suchen. Die Anzahl an FSC-zertifizierten
Ausstellern auf der spoga+gafa 2015 steigt jährlich – so sind
dieses Jahr 105 Unternehmen mit einer FSC-Zertifizierung auf
der Messe vertreten. Weltweit sind derzeit 183 Millionen Hektar
Wald in mehr als 80 Ländern und mehr als 29.000 Unternehmen
in der Produktkette zertifiziert (Stand: August 2015). Mehr als
600 Endkundenhändler nutzen derzeit die FSC-Warenzeichen
in Milliarden-Auflage, welches dem bewussten Verbraucher
ermöglicht, FSC-zertifizierte Produkte zu erkennen und gezielt
nachzufragen. Zudem bietet es Unternehmen die Möglichkeit
modernes Marketing zu gestalten, das auf Verbraucheransprüche eingeht. Denn immer mehr Menschen fordern, dass Unternehmen Verantwortung für ihr Handeln übernehmen und neben
wirtschaftlichem Profit auch soziale Gerechtigkeit und Umweltverträglichkeit ihrer Produktionsbedingungen in den Fokus
rücken. Um diese Werte klarer kommunizieren zu können, präsentiert sich der FSC Deutschland zum ersten Mal auf einer
Messe mit der neuen Marke – Wälder Für Immer Für Alle.

Dear visitor, dear reader,
To relax on a deckchair in the garden or on the balcony is most
likely one of the most popular and easy ways to quickly find
rest during the hot season. Who then wants to worry about the
sources of the wood used for making the deckchair or which tree
was actually used as charcoal to heat up the BBQ?
These Green Pages assist market participants and consumers, who are searching for garden timber products from responsible forestry. The number of FSC certified exhibitors at the
spoga+gafa is increasing annually – with 105 companies having
a FSC certificate at the fair this year. 183 million hectares of forests in 80 countries worldwide and more than 29,000 companies
in the chain of custody are FSC certified. More than 600 retailers
use the FSC trademarks in billions of editions and help conscious customers to recognize and find FSC certified products.
In addition, the trademarks provide companies with marketing
opportunities that address what consumers demand for. More
and more people hold companies responsible for their actions
and demand them to take social equity, environmental sustainability into consideration during the production processes, beside
economic profits, as well. To communicate these values more
explicitly FSC Germany presents its new global brand - Forests
For All For Ever for the first time at a trade fair.

Zertifiziertes Tropenholz –
wertvoll, nachhaltig, schön
Tropenholz wird gerne im Außenbereich für Gartenmöbel,
Terrassendielen, Fenster und vieles mehr verwendet. Gründe dafür gibt es viele: Holz aus dem Regenwald gilt als besonders witterungsbeständig. Im feuchten Klima der Tropen
müssen sich Bäume ständig gegen Pilze und Parasiten wehren und bilden deshalb viele Abwehrstoffe, wodurch das Holz
auch gegen Krankheiten besonders resistent wird. Um genug
Licht zu erlangen, wachsen tropische Bäume relativ schnell in
die Höhe und bilden dabei besonders gleichmäßige Stämme
ohne viele Seitenäste aus.
Auch ästhetisch hat Tropenholz seinen Reiz: Durch UV-Strahlung wird Tropenholz oft silberfarben und bekommt dadurch
zusätzlich einen speziellen Schutz. Darüber hinaus ist es im
Vergleich zu Plastik und Aluminium leichter recycelbar. Aus
all diesen Gründen ist Tropenholz für den Außenbereich, zum
Beispiel für Gartenmöbel und im Holzausbau mit qualitativ besonders hohen Ansprüchen, besonders gut geeignet.
Nicht nachhaltige Waldnutzung in den Tropen bringt jedoch
viele soziale und ökologische Probleme mit sich. Zahllose
Tiere verlieren ihren Lebensraum, Menschen ihre Lebensgrundlage und ganze Landstriche werden verwüstet. Als Partner der europäischen Koalition für nachhaltiges Tropenholz
setzen wir uns von FSC Deutschland für verantwortungsvolle
Nutzung von Waldwirtschaft in Tropenwäldern ein. (Weitere

Wenn Sie auf das FSC-Siegel achten, ist Holz – insbesondere Tropenholz – unter Berücksichtigung sämtlicher Zyklen bei
Herstellung, Nutzung und Wiederverwertung anderen Materialien oft deutlich überlegen. Beispielsweise ist Tropenholz
sehr dauerhaft und hält länger als viele andere Materialien,
Produkte lassen sich im Gegensatz zu Plastik, reparieren
und renovieren – oder haben Sie das schon mal mit einem
Plastikstuhl versucht?

Sustainable tropical timber –
valuable, sustainable, beautiful
Tropical timber is often used for outdoor garden furniture,
decking boards, windows and much more for many reasons:
Tropical timber is extremely weather resistant. In the humid
climate of the tropics tropical trees must defend themselves
against fungi and parasites constantly therefore building
many defensive substances, which build a natural resistance
against diseases later on.
To gain enough light tropical trees grow relatively quick in
height building up even trunks devoid of many lateral branches. Also in terms of aesthetics tropical timber has its appeal:
Through UV radiation tropical timber often becomes silver
thereby building special protection. Moreover, as compared to
plastic and aluminum it is far easier to be recycled.
For all these reasons tropical timber is especially suitable for
outdoor use, e.g. for garden furniture and timber construction
with particularly high demands for quality.
However unsustainable forest management in the tropics
comes hand in hand with many social and environmental
problems. Countless animals are losing their habitat, human
livelihoods and entire regions are devastated.

Taking into account manufacturing-, using- and recycling-cycles the use of tropical timber is superior to other materials
when it comes to sustainability aspects and overall costs.
Tropical timber is very durable and will last longer than many
other materials, products can be repaired and renovated as
compared to plastic materials – or have you ever tried to
repair a plastic chair?

Zum ersten Mal stellt der FSC Deutschland auf einer internationalen Messe seine neue Marke Wälder Für Immer Für Alle
vor! Durch den neuen Slogan sollen Verbraucher schneller erkennen, für was das FSC-Siegel steht: für verantwortungsvolle
Waldwirtschaft mit Respekt vor Natur und Menschen. Dafür
setzt sich der FSC seit über 20 Jahren weltweit ein und schafft
ein neues Bewusstsein für die Herkunft des Rohstoffes Holz.
Durch die neue Marke kann das Interesse der Verbraucher
für die Werte des FSC gefestigt und gesteigert werden. Ein
höherer Wiedererkennungswert durch die Marke führt zu
einer gesteigerten Nachfrage an FSC-zertifizierten Produkten
und schafft dadurch Anreize, mehr Waldfläche für die Rohstoffgewinnung zertifizieren zu lassen. So kann eine verantwortungsvolle Waldbewirtschaftung auf Dauer gesichert werden.
Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurde die Kampagne mit dem
Slogan Wälder Für Immer Für Alle kreiert – eine Marke, die im
Gedächtnis bleibt und Bewusstsein schafft.
Ulrich Malessa, Leiter der Marktentwicklung bei FSC Deutschland, spricht begeistert von der neuen Kampagne: „Nach
einem langen internationalen Entwicklungsprozess haben wir
eine Marke entwickelt, die dem Verbraucher klar kommuniziert für was der FSC steht: für umweltverträgliche, sozialgerechte und wirtschaftlich solide Waldwirtschaft. Wir freuen

For the first time FSC Germany introduces its new brand
Forests For All Forever at an international trade fair! With the
new slogan consumers should quicker recognize what the
FSC trademark stands for: responsible forestry combined with
respect for nature and humans. FSC advocates this worldwide for more than 20 years and creates a new awareness for
the origin of the raw material wood.
The new brand can strengthen and increase customer demand for FSC’s values. An increased brand recognition results in higher demand for FSC certified products, therefore
providing incentives to certify more and more forest area for
the production of raw material.
That way responsible forest management can be secured in
the long term. To achieve this goal, the campaign Forests For
All Forever was created – a brand that creates awareness and
is easily memorable.
Ulrich Malessa, the director of market development at FSC
Germany, speaks enthusiastically of the new campaign: “After
a long international development process, we have developed
a brand, which clearly communicates to the customer for what
FSC stands for: Environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. We are pleased to introduce our new brand for the first

einen aktiven Beitrag zum Artenschutz.
33Kontrollierte Quellen: In FSC-zertifizierten Mix-Produkten
findet sich kein Holz aus illegalem Einschlag oder von
gentechnisch veränderten Bäumen. Schäden an Wäldern
mit hohen Schutzwerten und Waldumwandlung werden
vermieden.
33Uniformity: FSC is consistent - worldwide. Audits follow the
same rules. Globally the same 10 principles and 56 criteria
are applied. They form the basis for every national FSCstandard.
33Balance of interests: Economical, social and environmental
interests are weighted equally.
33Credibility: The FSC is the only certification system
worldwide that is supported by all the relevant environmental
organizations such as WWF, Greenpeace etc.
33Annual Audit: The FSC-certificate is issued only after an
on-site-inspection in the forest management unit and is
re-audited annually.
33Participation: Local stakeholders are involved in the
certification process. Submitted claims are reassessed in the
forest operation.
33Transparency: Each annual audit report of every forest
management unit and corresponding corrective action
requests are published.
33Ecology: FSC-certified forest enterprises conserve rare and
endangered species, promote non-chemical methods of pest
management and do not use genetically modified trees.
33Controlled Sources: In FSC-certified MIX products wood
from illegal logging, conversion of natural forests and
genetically modified trees and damage to high conservation
values is effectively avoided. Wood from logging activities
that violate traditional and civil rights is also avoided.

Vom Wald zum Gartenstuhl
Überprüfung des Forstbetriebes
Unabhängige Zertifizierer überprüfen jährlich im Forstbetrieb,
ob die FSC-Standards eingehalten und umgesetzt werden.
Das FSC-Zertifikat erhalten nur verantwortungsvoll bewirtschaftete Wälder, die nach den Umwelt-, Wirtschafts- und Sozialstandards des FSC geprüft wurden.
Kontrolle der Verarbeiter und Händler
Unabhängige Zertifizierer überprüfen im Verarbeitungsbetrieb
oder beim Händler, ob die FSC-Standards eingehalten und
umgesetzt werden. Ist dies der Fall, erhält das Unternehmen
das FSC-Zertifikat. Nur Holz oder Holzprodukte aus überprüften Unternehmen dürfen mit dem FSC-Siegel gekennzeichnet

Überwachung der Kennzeichnung
Die zugelassenen Zertifizierer des FSC überwachen die
ordnungsgemäße Verwendung des FSC-Logos mit Angabe
der Lizenznummer auf Produkten. Zusätzlich wird sichergestellt, dass die jeweilige FSC-Kennzeichnung, die aus dem
Rohstoff­einsatz hervorgeht, auf dem Produkt verwendet wird.
Überwachung der Werbung mit dem FSC-Zeichen
In Werbematerialien wie Katalogen dürfen Verarbeiter und
Händler mit einer eigenen Nummer für FSC-zertifizierte Produkte werben.
FSC 100%: Das Holz dieses Produktes stammt
ausschließlich aus FSC-zertifiziertem Wald.
Dieses Holz muss von nicht-zertifiziertem Holz
stets getrennt gelagert, gehandelt und verarbeitet werden. Eine Vermischung darf nicht stattfinden.
FSC Mix: Bei der Produktion wurde Holz aus
FSC-zertifizierten Wäldern, kontrollierten Quellen und Recyclingmaterial verwendet. FSCzertifiziertes Material oder Post-ConsumerRecycling wird entweder zu mindestens 70%
eingesetzt oder es wird eine mindestens äquivalente Menge im Prozess verwendet, um die
gekennzeichneten Waren herzustellen.
FSC Recycling: Für dieses Produkt wurde
ausschließlich Gebrauchtholz oder Altpapier
verwendet. Das Material muss seinen Einsatzzweck erfüllt haben - beispielsweise ein Magazin, welches über den Haushaltsabfall wieder
eingesammelt wurde.

Audit of the forest operation
Independent certifiers yearly verify that the forest operation
adheres to and implements the FSC certification requirements. Only responsibly managed forests, which are FSCcertified according to the environmental, economic and social
standards, will receive the FSC certificate.
Audit of manufacturers and retailers
Independent certifiers verify if the standards are observed and
implemented by the manufacturer or retailer. If this applies,
the company achieves the FSC-certificate. Only certified companies have the right to label FSC products.

Monitoring of the labeling
The accredited certifiers of FSC monitor and approve the correct use of the FSC-labels with the license code on products.
Only such products are labeled that meet the requirements
in relation to the input of raw materials coming from wellmanaged forests, controlled sources or recycling.
Monitoring of advertising with the FSC label
In advertising material such as catalogues, manufacturers and
retailers are only allowed to advertise using their own number.
FSC 100%: This product contains 100% material from FSC-certified forests. The wood
has to be strictly separated from non-certified
material in storage, processing and trade. No
mixing is allowed.
FSC Mix: To manufacture this product timber
from well-managed FSC certified forests, controlled wood avoiding unacceptable practices
as well as reclaimed material has been used. In
the production the input of FSC certified or reclaimed material or a combination of both was
at least 70% or an aquivalent input amount was
purchased to produce this labelled product.
