The tournament committee extends a very warm and sincere welcome to all players, coaches, managers, parents, and spectators attending the 34nd Annual Crowchild Challenge Hockey Tournament. The Crowchild Challenge is one of the premier tournaments in Western Canada for Tier 1/AA teams in the Atom and Pee Wee levels. This year there are a total of 16 teams participating in two age categories. We are proud that you have chosen to join us and hope that you will find the weekend exciting, rewarding, competitive and most of all fun! While you are in Calgary, please take the time to enjoy many of the other activities and facilities the City and surrounding areas have to offer. A visit to the many sites, or malls, in Calgary will only enhance your visit. We wish you the very best in competition and welcome you to the City of Calgary. Hockey is a great sport requiring speed, dexterity and strength. Each year it is always amazing to see so many highly motivated young athletes involved in an event, which encourages team work, good sportsmanship and fair play. The aim of the Crowchild Challenge is to provide a high level of hockey competition that offers enjoyment for all involved. We hope that all aspects of the tournament are memorable and the friendships developed prove to be valuable long after the tournament has ended. A tournament of this magnitude would not be be possible without a dedicated group of sponsors, volunteers and others who work so hard to make it happen. In particular, the Tournament Committee would like to express its appreciation to: The parent volunteers from the Northwest Warriors teams, the advertisers and sponsors for their enthusiastic support. Good Luck to all participants, May sportsmanship and fair play prevail. Yulia Gorbach Tournament Chairperson 22347 2015_Crowchild_Challenge R2.indd 3 2015-10-06 2:48 PM RULES AND FORMAT This tournament has been sanctioned by the CHA and only CHA registered teams will be allowed in the tournament. Exceptions will be made for International teams which must be registered members of the USAH. Exceptions will also be made for European teams if they are registered with their IIHF member country and have been approved by Hockey Alberta and sanctioned by Hockey Canada. Only players registered with the teams and players affiliated in accordance with CHA regulations may participate. Player registration cards or registration forms must be available on request, even though copies are in possession with the tournament committee. All teams must have been registered with the CHA, USAH or IIHF member country prior to January 10, 2014. All games will utilize registered Minor Hockey Association of Calgary (MHAC) game officials. Playing rules will be those used during the regular season in Calgary, in accordance with the CHA and MHAC. A complete set of MHAC rules can be found at https://www.hockeycalgary.ca/assets/file/2014_15_HockeyCalgary.pdf This includes, but is not limited to the following: 1. Throat protectors and mouth guards are mandatory. 2. Body-checking is not allowed in either the Atom or Pee-Wee divisions. 3. The red-line is not in effect for offsides. 4. Each team must provide a penalty box attendant. Tournament is providing sore keeper and time keeper. However, if any team would like to provide own score keeper and/or time keeper, please advise arena coordinator before the game and your request will be accommodated. The following rules are specific to this tournament: 1. Round-robin games will be 1.5 hours long and will consist three 15, 15 and 20 minute stop time period. If game ends in a tie, NO overtime will be played. There will be a flood every two periods during round-robin play. 2. There will be a Pizza Shoot Out and MVP presentation ONLY after Round Robin games. If a game requires the full 1.5 hours to finish, completion of the game takes precedent over the pizza shootout. However if it appears that the game itself will exceed the 1.5 hour time limit, the arena coordinator has the discretion to drop the clock to two minutes, or run past 1.5 hours. If a pizza shootout can’t take place, the certificate winner will be decided by a coin toss, or at discretion of the arena coordinator/time keeper. 3. Any team unable to commence play 10 minutes after the scheduled starting time will forfeit the game. The opposing team will be awarded a 6-0 win. 4. In all games, a “Mercy Rule” will apply in the third period only. If a team has a 6 or more goal lead at any time in the third period, the clock will switch to running time. If the losing team decreases the goal differential to 5 goals, the clock will revert back to stop time. For the purpose of the plus-minus calculation in the tie-breaking procedures, a maximum of a 6 goal differential will be used. If the final score of any game has greater than a 6 goal differential, the winning team’s GOALS FOR and the losing team’s GOALS AGAINST will both be reduced to arrive at a differential of 6 goals. 5. Semi-final games will consist of three 15, 15 and 20 minute stop time period. In the event of the tie during the semi-final game, the teams will proceed to Shoot Out. See “Shoot Out Procedure”. 6. Championship games will consist of three 20-minute stop time periods. In the Championship games, a break will be taken between the 2nd and 3rd periods while the ice is flooded. In the event of overtime, the teams will be allowed a three (3) minute break during which they are NOT to leave the playing surface. See “Overtime Procedure”. 7. Within the Hockey Calgary Regulations Handbook effective September 2013, section 29 specifically addresses minimum suspensions in the event a player or team official is assessed a suspendable offense. In the event of a suspendable offence being assessed, the Tournament Committee will defer to Hockey Calgary officials for the suspension to be served by the player or team official. PEEWEE FORMAT PeeWee players must be 12 years of age or younger as at December 31, 2014. The Pee Wee tournament will consist of 8 teams total, 4 in pool A and 4 in pool B. Each team in the pool will play a round-robin format within that pool, playing a total of 3 games in the round robin. Two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and zero (0) points for a loss. Play-off will have following format: Game 1: 1st in pool A vs 2nd in pool B Game 2: 1st in pool B vs 2nd in pool A Game 3: 3rd in pool A vs 4th in pool B Game 4: 3rd in pool B vs 4th in pool A. Winning teams of Games 1 and 2 will play in Challenge Cup Final; losing teams of Games 1 and 2 will play in Laughton Cup Final. Winning teams of games 3 and 4 will, and losing team of games 3 and 4 will play each other in Consolation finals. 22347 2015_Crowchild_Challenge R2.indd 4 2015-10-06 2:48 PM RULES AND FORMAT ATOM FORMAT Atom players must be 10 years of age or younger as at December 31, 2014. The Atom tournament will consist of 8 teams total, 4 in pool A and 4 in pool B. Winning teams of games 3 and 4 will, and losing team of games 3 and 4 will play each other in Consolation finals. TIME-OUTS Each team is allowed ONE - 30 seconds time-out per game. TIE-BREAKER ROUND - ROBIN PLAY In the event of a tie in the standings between two or more teams after the completion of the round robin, the team placing shall be determined as follows: In the case of a tie in the standings between 2 teams in a pool at the conclusion of the round robin, the pool standings will be determined as follows: 1. the winner of the game between the two tied teams if they played one another, or; 2. if that game ended in a tie, the team with the better record of goals for and against (goals for divided by goals against - highest fraction wins) (Note that a maximum six-goal differential in any one game will apply) or; 3. if again there is a tie, the team that scores the first goal in a game between the two tied teams or; 4. if the two teams did not play each other, the best record of goals for and against per (2) above. In the event of a tie in the standings between three (or more) teams, pool standings will be determined by: 5. the best records of goals for and against as per (2) above or; 6. if a tie still exists, then the team with the fewest penalty minutes assessed in the round robin or; 7. if all else fails, the tie will be broken by a coin toss. SHOOT OUT PROCEDURE The shootout procedure shall be as follows: 1. The ice will not be re-surfaced prior to the shootout. 2. The Teams will not change ends for the shootout. a) The Home Team has the option to shoot either first or second. b) The teams shall alternate shots. 3. Three (3) players from each team shall participate in the shootout and they shall proceed in such order as the Coach selects. All players are eligible to participate in the shootout unless they are serving a ten minute misconduct or have been assessed a game misconduct, gross misconduct or match penalty. 4. Once the shootout begins, the goalkeeper cannot be replaced unless he/she is injured. No warm up shall be permitted for a substitute goalkeeper. 5. Each team will be given three shots, unless the outcome is determined earlier in the shootout. After each team has taken three shots, if the score remains tied, the shootout will proceed to a “sudden victory” format. a) Sudden victory is achieved by each team sending one additional shooter, should one team score and the other not a winner will be declared. If both shooter’s score or both shooter’s miss then each team will send another shooter to participate until one team has scored and one has not. b) No player may shoot twice until everyone who is eligible has shot. 6. Regardless of the number of goals scored during the shootout portion of overtime, the final score recorded for the game will give the winning team one more goal than its opponent, based on the score at the end of overtime. 7. If a team declines to participate in the shootout procedure the game will be declared as a shootout loss for that team. a) If a team declines to take a shot it will be declared as “no goal”. CHAMPIONSHIPS – OVERTIME PROCEDURE (ATOM & PEE WEE) The championship games are single elimination knockout. If a championship game is tied after three periods have been played (regulation time), the tie will be broken by “sudden death” overtime (the clock will be set for 20 minutes). Each team will play with three skaters and a goaltender. Existing penalty time will carry over from regulation time. If a penalty is assessed during overtime, the penalized team will play a man short for the duration of the penalty. If both teams are assessed penalties (coincidental), the offending players will serve their time but both teams will continue to play with three skaters and a goaltender. Substitutions can be made at any time during any of the overtime periods. Teams can play their players at their own discretion. The goaltenders can be substituted for a skater at any time. 22347 2015_Crowchild_Challenge R2.indd 5 2015-10-06 2:48 PM A warm welcome to all Crowchild Challenge athletes and families! 403 510 5496 Towers Watson is proud to support the Crowchild Challenge Towers Watson. If the game has run past the allotted time and the Tournament Committee deems there is insufficient time for a contest, a coin toss will determine the winner. The contest will proceed as follows: • 5 pucks will be placed in the centre circle for each team. • Shooters will line up against the boards in front of their respective benches and shoot in ascending order of their jersey numbers (ie. lowest to highest.) • The first shooter for each team starts with the puck from the centre circle and skates in on the opposing team’s goalie. • If a shooter does not score, that shooter must pass the puck to the next shooter, who must be outside the blueline when they receive the pass. The shooter who receives the pass may then skate in and attempt to score. Goalies may NOT delay the shoot out in any way. If a goalie delays the shoot out (ie. shoots the puck away from the player, covers the puck for a prolonged period of time, etc.), the goalies’ team will lose one goal. • The winner of the Crowchild Challenge Timbits Shoot Out is the team to score five (5) goals first. There is a time limit on this contest of two (2) minutes. If, after 2 minutes, no team has scored five goals, the team with the most goals wins. If the score is tied after 2 minutes, a coin toss will determine the winner. • The next shooter in line when the shoot out ends will be the first shooter in the next shoot out in which the said team is participating. • Teams will shake hands after the Timbits Shoot Out. 22347 2015_Crowchild_Challenge R2.indd 7 2015-10-06 2:48 PM ST.ALBERT SAINTS PEE WEE # 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 14 16 17 18 19 20 29 31 Last Name Leslie Bergheim Pool Ashcroft Wharton Sorensen Ostapchuk Ketsa West Arnold Dziarmaga Thomson Billey Pajunen Look Kadatz Kendrick First Name Dylan Eric Elijah Cale Noah Arik Zack Hudson Kaleb Evan Adam Ben Kai Braden Rafferty Ethan Teagan Position Forward Defense Defense Defense Defense Forward Forward Forward Defense Forward Defense Forward Forward Forward Forward Goalie Goalie Team Staff Dylan Sorenson Greg Leslie Quinn West Lore Ketsa Nate Thomson Darcy Arnold Clayton Billey Position Head Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach TEAM MANAGER First Name Warren Christopher Kjell Bowdyn Max Simon Joshua Riley Ethan Carson Damon Alex Dane Jaden Thomas Owen Position Defence Defence Defence Defence Defence Defence Forward Forward Forward Forward Forward Forward Forward Forward Forward Goaltender Team Staff Craig McGinley Josh Rahme Jimmy Cowan Jake Ross Tyler Kinnon Lisa Fleck Position Head Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Team Manager Gregory Goaltender GLENLAKE HAWKS PEE WEE # Last Name 2 Marcotte 3 Kobelka 4 Moller 7 Neely 8 Von Muehldorfer 9 Diaz 10 Danis 11 Hearn 12 Zielke 13 Baylis 14 Jugnauth 15 Walicki 16 Probe 17 Ostrowski 19 Kaufield 30 Anderson 31 Wrathall 22347 2015_Crowchild_Challenge R2.indd 8 2015-10-06 2:48 PM LETHBRIDGE HURRICANES PEE WEE # Last Name 1 Pickels 3 Larocque 4 Finnie 5 Roden 6 Lazar 7 Bohmer 8 Boser 9 Anton 10 Christie 11 Sterling-Ponech 12 Mabin 14 Thomas 15 Merriman 16 Fomradas 17 Parenteau 18 Finnie 31 Peters First Name Ethan Cole Emmitt Jack Koden Nathan Joseph Adam Logan Grady Joel Easton Evan Nolan Tiegen Marshall Tyson Position Team Staff Ashley Lazar Gabe Mabin James Anton Devery Edmonds Griffin Pacholzuk-Fisher Corbin Karl Tobi McRae Position Coach Coach Asst.
