Messe-Frühstück
Für Taylor Guitars ist es die erste Musikmesse in neuer Konstellation: Der kalifornische Hersteller stellte im letzten Jahr
die Vertriebsstruktur auf eigene Beine.
Dafür wurde ein neues Logistikzentrum
gebaut. Es steht in Amsterdam und fasst
alles unter einem Dach zusammen: Büros,
Service-Center, Reparaturwerkstatt und
Verkaufsflächen. Das soll, so Taylor, die
Versorgung des europäischen Marktes
voranbringen, denn so könnten die Stützpunkthändler nach optimaler Qualifikation sorgfältig ausgewählt und mit ausreichend Instrumenten versorgt werden.
Diese Händler werden intensiv geschult,
so dass sie mit den speziellen Eigenheiten
der Taylor-Gitarren vertraut sind. Der
Schlüssel zum Erfolg soll jedoch die
Taylor-Philosophie sein: ein familiäres
Verhältnis zu Musikern und Händlern, das
auch die jeweilige Mentalität berücksichtigt.

Auch in diesem Jahr veranstaltete der
Branchenverband SOMM e.V. in Kooperation mit PPVMEDIEN und der Musikmesse Frankfurt wieder das Messe-Frühstück
mit GfK-Vortrag. Im gut besuchten Congress Center der Messe Frankfurt referierte Wolfgang Twardawa, Experte von
der Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung
(GfK) in Nürnberg zum Thema: „Deutschland im Konsumrausch?“ Das zu Beginn
des Vortrages noch gesetzte Fragezeichen
war dabei mehr rhetorischer Art. Anhand
empirisch erhobener Daten konnte Twardawa aufzeigen, dass die wirtschaftliche
Entwicklung mehr als positiv ist. Alle
wichtigen Indikatoren belegen: Die wirtschaftliche Erwartungshaltung der Bevölkerung ist rundum positiv und sorgt damit
für intensives Kosumverhalten.
Insgesamt, so Twardawa, sei die wirtschaftliche Erholung in Deutschland und
deren Auswirkungen auf den Einzelhandel, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die
Musikbranche, so gut wie seit 10 Jahren

leads to intense consumption.
He went on to say that overall the economic recovery in Germany and its repercussions in particular for the music industry are better now than they have been for
at least 10 years.

is giving visitors to its booth personal and
practical experience of Meyer Sound’s
comprehensive audio system packages.
The products being demonstrated include
the D-Mitri Digital Audio Platform, a series
of speakers and system integration tools
and the Constellation Acoustic System.
Visitors to the booth will be able to enjoy
live performances by saxophonist Sarah
Underwood and by flautist Adrian Brett,
direct from The Lion King in London’s West
End. They will be demonstrating the unique
ability of the Constellation system to simulate the acoustic properties of any venue,
from an intimate rehearsal room to a huge

begibt sich Martin GuitarS in die
interessante Umgebung der tiefen
Instrumente. Mit einer Mensur von fast
70 Zentimetern Länge kann sie problemlos eine Quart tiefer gestimmt, mit
entsprechenden Saiten aber auch in
Standardstimmung benutzt werden.
Der über 43 Zentimeter breite Korpus macht sie zu einer der größten
Gitarren, die Martin je gebaut
hat, und sie wird einen entsprechend tiefen und satten
Ton liefern. Boden und Zargen bestehen bei diesem
Instrument aus Palisander, die Decke wurde aus
Sitka-Fichte gefertigt.
Big baritone
Martin Guitars is going
down into the deeper registers with its
Grand J-28LsE Baritone. With a scale
length of 27.5" it has no problem with
being tuned down a fourth or used in standard tuning with appropriate strings. The
17" wide body makes it one of the largest
guitars that Martin have ever built, and it
will therefore provide rich deep tones. It
has rosewood back and sides and a sitka
spruce top.

under the Eko By LorEnz label. It has
two channels and a Jensen speaker. A

of acoustic amps will also produce bass
amps. What is slightly different is that a
committed acoustic specialist such as
FishMan should produce an effects pedal

A logical addition
■ Good sound from an acoustic instrument
depends not only on the pickup but also
on the amplifier. The Finnish pickup manufacturer B-Band therefore took the logical step of producing their own acoustic
amplifier. The Uros 100 W amp was developed in cooperation with the loudspeaker
specialist Sami Penttila. It has two channels for instruments and microphones and
three-band EQ with semi-parametric mids.
The amp also features feedback suppression, a 10" speaker and a 2,5" tweeter.

Performance. Sie entsprechen den
bekannten und lange eingeführten
Modellen D-18 und D-28 der StandardSerie, sind aber mit den modern zugeschnittenen Hälsen der Performing
Artist-Serie ausgestattet. Diese sind
schlanker geformt und mit einem
etwas weiteren Saitenabstand
versehen, was der linken

A new neck with an old
tradition
■ Martin Guitars is launching the
D-18P and D-28P High Performance models. They correspond to the familiar traditional D-18 and D-28 from the Standard
Series but are equipped with the modern
tapered necks from the Performing Artist
Series. The necks offer the player a slimmer feel. The first couple of frets are also
designed for a more comfortable feel due
to a special spacing. The D-18P has a mahogany body and a spruce top, while the
D-28P has a rosewood body and spruce

■ Leaving your tuner at home can spoil
your whole day. Shadow has now developed a tuner for electric guitars that is installed permanently in the instrument,
something that acoustic guitar players
have enjoyed for some time. The sH Etuner is housed discreetly in the frame of
a standard humbucker and is activated at
the touch of a button. There is no need for
any woodworking skills; you just need to
replace the frame. At the moment only
guitars with humbuckers can benefit, but
the company is working on other versions.

■ “Not so loud”, NSL for short, is the
audacious name of a drum series from
Remo that are better suited to quiet playing. They produce a pure deep bass tone
with a reduced loudness level. The NSL
Tubano is available in six sizes – 10", 12"
and 14" with heights of 14", 25" and 25". All
NSL Tubanos are supplied with NSL mallets and Volume Control Caps. The REMO
NSL Djembe is played like a traditional
djembe, or with NSL mallets. The djembe
is available in 10" x 20.75", 12" x 22" and
14" x 23.25" models.

■ 1959 stellte PaiSte erstmals die Formula 602 vor. Ihr feiner, reiner und stets
kontrollierter musikalischer Klang überzeugte Künstler wie Joe Morello, Jon
Hiseman, Charlie Watts und viele andere
Top-Drummer. Aufgrund zunehmender
Lautstärke und der kühlen Ästhetik in
elektrisch verstärkter und elektronischer
Musik schwand die Nachfrage, so dass
die Formula 602 in den 1990ern eingestellt wurde. Heute markieren die Wärme
der traditionellen CuSn20-Legierung und
gleichbleibende Klangqualität auf höchstem Niveau jedoch wieder musikalische
Werte, weshalb die Wiedereinführung der
beliebtesten Formula-602-Modelle nur folgerichtig ist. Lieferbar sind Thin Crashes,
Hi-Hat und Ride. Die Formula 602 werden
aus 80% Kupfer und 20% Zinn von Hand in
der Schweiz hergestellt.

from Remo is based on the “Coated Controlled Sound” series. This “CSX” is made
from a 12 mil coated foil and 5 mil black dot
on the reverse side, giving the drumhead
20% greater durability and sound control.
The “mil” is used in the USA to indicate one
thousandth of an inch (0.0254 mm). “12 mil”
is therefore roughly equivalent to 0.3 mm.

■ ESP Guitars has unveiled a whole range
of limited edition guitars for its eSP and
Ltd labels. New signature models from
Metallica’s James hetfield and Kirk hammett will be available from April. The new
Slayer 2011 model is another limited edition guitar. Its graphics tie in with the 25th

■ Im Rahmen einer feierlichen Zeremonie auf der Musikmesse/Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt am Main, wurden die
Leser-Awards der Fachmagazine KEYS, guitar, Soundcheck, DrumHeads!! und Tastenwelt aus dem Verlagshaus PPVMEDIEN verliehen. In jedem Jahr bestimmen
dabei Tausende von Lesern der Fachzeitschriften, welche ihre Lieblingsprodukte des abgelaufenen Jahres in
den verschiedensten Geräte-Kategorien waren. Die sicht-
bar zufriedenen Vertreter der ausgezeichneten Hersteller
waren selbstverständlich vor Ort und bekamen die Preise
von den jeweiligen Chefredakteuren der Fachmagazine
überreicht.
PPVMEDIEN Readers’ Awards
■ The destination of the annual PPVMEDIEN Readers'
Awards is determined by the votes of readers of the magazines KEYS, guitar, Soundcheck, DrumHeads!! and Tasten-
welt. Every year, the international Musikmesse/Prolight +
Sound in Frankfurt am Main provides the setting for the
presentation of these awards, the atmosphere being upbeat but informal. The presentation of the awards was
a great success. Representatives of the manufacturers
whose products had been recognized in this way by the
readers – who voted once again in their thousands – were
on hand to collect the awards, which were presented this
year, as in previous years, by the editors of the magazines
in question.
