damit ist die Königstour eine der schönsten Skirunden der Alpen. Einstiege gibt es in allen
Orten der Region, bis zum Abend kommen Sie wieder bequem zurück zum Start. Ein wahrhaft königliches Pistenvergnügen also, bei dem Sie die Weite der Landschaft, die Vielfalt
der Abfahrten sowie zahlreiche Hütten und Schmankerl entdecken werden.
A total difference in altitude of 6,700 metres, 5 peaks and the monumental
view of the Hochkönig Mountain (2.941 m) make the King’s Route
one of the most beautiful round skiing tours in the Alps. You
can access the route from any of the villages in the region,
enjoy a great day’s ski safari and be back before sunset.
Truly royal skiing pleasure which impresses with seemingly
endless winter landscapes and a multitude of different runs
as varied as the dishes served in the mountain restaurants
dotted along the pistes.

des Skis (All Mountain Rocker) – etwas
stärker im vorderen Bereich, moderater
im hinteren Bereich. Das macht das
Steuern und Driften besonders leicht.
Und geht’s hinaus in den Pulverschnee,
sorgt diese Konstruktion für optimalen
Auftrieb. Zudem verfügen die neuen
Atomic Vantage über ein Rückgrat mit
geringem Gewicht (Backbone Technology), die sie überaus stabil und laufruhig
macht. Vier Vantage Modelle mit Breiten
zwischen 87 und 103 mm stehen zur
Wahl – Ihr Ski-Verleiher berät Sie gern.

Speisekarte der Wastlalm genügt, um sicher zu
sein: Besser kann man’s für ein echtes HüttenErlebnis gar nicht treffen. Drinnen das urgemütliche Kaminstüberl, vor der Tür der beheizte
Wintergarten und die herrliche Sonnenterrasse
– Herz, was willst du mehr! „Ob Pistenskifahrer
oder Tourengeher, bei uns fühlen sich alle wie
zu Hause.“ sagt der Sepp. Und er verweist
noch auf zwei weitere Spezialitäten: Das
Bergfrühstück (auf Vorbestellung) und den
Tourengeher-Stammtisch, der jeden Mittwoch abends die Bergfexn zusammenbringt.
Erreichbar ist die Wastlalm mit dem Karlift
(Ausstieg rechts) oder vom LangeckGipfel über die Abergalm auf
der Piste Nr. 16.

Inside the cosy, rustic farmhouse parlour with
an open fire, just outside the door the heated
conservatory and the magnificent sun terrace
– you couldn’t ask for more. “Everyone feels at
home here, both regular skiers and mountaineers.” Says Sepp as he mentions two more
specialities: “The mountain breakfast (bookings
required) and the mountaineering skiers’ round
table where like-minded outdoor enthusiasts
come together every Wednesday evening. You
can reach the Wastlalm by taking the Kar Lift
(exit on the right hand side) or from the Langeck Peak via the Abergalm on piste no. 16

could be better to satisfy your hunger
than a succulent Austrian roast, homemade cheese noodles or chunky chopped

Spitzensportlerinnen aus
der Region Hochkönig.
Slalom-Weltmeisterin, Slalom-WeltcupSiegerin, 34fache* Siegerin in WeltcupRennen – die für den SC Dienten startende
Marlies Schild ist heute eine der herausragendsten Läuferinnen im Alpinen Skiweltcup (www.marlies-schild.com). Wie viele
Kinder hier in der Region, so stand auch
Marlies bereits mit 2 Jahren erstmals auf
Skiern. Schon in früher Jugend war aber
klar: Der unbändige Spaß im Schnee wird
mit ganzer Kraft zum Beruf gemacht. Mit
den optimalen Trainingsmöglichkeiten
in der Region Hochkönig gelang ihr der
konsequente Aufstieg, von dem sie selbst
Rückschläge nicht abhalten konnten. Nach
Europacup und Matura hat sie dann ab
2003 so richtig zum Gipfelsturm angesetzt.
Die aus Mühlbach stammende Melanie
Meilinger will da um nichts nachstehen.
Aber auch bei der Freestylerin gab es beim
Gipfelsturm einen kleinen Umweg – über
Australien. Da es mit Weltcup-Starts bei
den ‚normalen’ Skifahrern nicht klappen
wollte, war sie als Trainerin nach Down
under gegangen. Dort sprach sich ihr
Können auf den Buckelpisten schnell
herum, so dass sie bald zu ProfiRennen eingeladen wurde.
Nach einer Aufwärmrunde im
Europacup startet sie in dieser Saison im heiß ersehnten
Weltcup und blickt sogar hoffnungsvoll Richtung Olympia.

Meilinger, both top athletes from the
Hochkönig Region.
Slalom World Champion , Slalom World
Cup winner, *34-time World Cup race winner Marlies Schild races for the Dienten
Ski Club and is one of the Alpine Ski World
Cup’s most outstanding athletes (www.
marlies-schild.com). Like many children
here in the region, Marlies first stood on
skis at the tender age of 2 and it soon
became clear that having fun in the snow
knew no boundaries. Reason enough
for her to make her hobby her job. The
optimum training conditions in the Hochkönig Region made her steady climb to
success possible, despite several setbacks.
In 2003 after conquering the Europacup
circuit and finishing her A-levels she started her chase for the summit.
Melanie Meilinger, a local girl from
Mühlbach, has ambitions that are as
equally impressive. However, she too took
a slight detour on the way to the top, via
Australia! Having struggled to establish
herself as a “normal” World Cup racer, she
decided to try her luck as a trainer Down
Under! Word of her skill in the mogul
fields soon got around and it wasn’t
long before she was invited to compete
in professional free-style competitions.
After a “warm up round” in the Europacup
she makes her long-awaited debut in the
World Cup this year and even has Olympic
aspirations.
