È difficile trovare un’altra città che offra così tante alternative
in così poco spazio e in aggiunta l’atmosfera solare tipica del
sud quale piacevole fuoriprogramma: l'architettura futurista si

e alle piazze. Non è un caso che l’UNESCO abbia dichiarato
Patrimonio culturale il centro storico meglio conservato della
“Mitteleuropa”.

Landhaushof | CORTILE DEL LANDHAUS
Ein Stück Norditalien mitten in der Grazer Herrengasse? Fast wie ein
Venezianischer Palazzo mutet das Landhaus an. Ab 1557 errichtete der
italienische Baumeister Domenico dell' Allio einen repräsentativen Bau für
die Landstände der Steiermark. Noch heute tagen hier die Abgeordneten
des Steiermärkischen Landesparlaments.
A piece of Northern Italy right in Herrengasse in the centre of Graz, the
Landhaus has all the characteristics of a Venetian palazzo. From 1557, Italian
master builder Domenico dell' Allio was commissioned with creating a
prestigious building for the official headquarters of the regional government,
and the members of the Styrian state parliament still meet here today.
Un richiamo dell’Italia settentrionale proprio nel centro di Graz, lungo la
strada Herrengasse? Il Landhaus sembra addirittura essere un palazzo veneziano. A partire dal 1557 l’architetto italiano Domenico dell’Allio fu incaricato
di erigere un palazzo rappresentativo per la Dieta regionale stiriana. Non è
cambiato nulla: oggi come allora ci si riuniscono i consiglieri della Giunta
regionale stiriana.

Sagenhafte 32.000 historische Waffen und Kriegsgeräte auf fünf Etagen.
Das Landeszeughaus in der Grazer Herrengasse gilt als die bedeutendste
historische Waffensammlung der Welt. Im Erdgeschoss – eine Ausstellung,
die den geschichtlichen Hintergrund liefert. Darüber ein beeindruckendes
Arsenal an Gewehren, Rüstungen, Hieb- und Stichwaffen hauptsächlich
aus dem 16. und 17. Jahrhundert.
No less than 32,000 historical weapons and military devices are displayed here
on 5 floors. The Landeszeughaus on Herrengasse is considered the world’s
most important collection of historical armaments. The ground floor hosts
an exhibition that provides visitors with the historical background for the
collection. The museum also boasts an impressive arsenal of guns, armour
and cut and thrust weapons, mostly from the 16th and 17 th centuries.
L’incredibile numero di 32.000 armi storiche e utensili di guerra esposti su
cinque piani. L’armeria Landeszeughaus, situata lungo la strada Herrengasse
nel centro di Graz, viene considerata la più importante collezione di armi storiche del mondo. L’esposizione al pianoterra illustra i contesti storici. Salendo
ai piani superiori si presenta un imponente arsenale di fucili, armature, armi
da taglio e da punta risalenti in gran parte ai secoli XVI e XVII.

An jene Zeit, als Graz Kaiserstadt war, erinnert heute noch die Domkirche.
Kaiser Friedrich III. baute sie gemeinsam mit seiner neuen Residenz in Graz.
Das Mausoleum ist das Grabmal Kaiser Ferdinands II. Das viel gerühmte
italienische Flair von Graz findet in diesem Bauwerk wohl seinen schönsten
architektonischen Ausdruck. Tipp: Der Dom birgt zahlreiche Kunstschätze
im Innenraum.
The cathedral, built by Emperor Friedrich II in conjunction with his new residence in Graz, is a relic of the time when Graz was an imperial city. The mausoleum is the final resting place of Emperor Ferdinand II. In architectural terms,
the mausoleum is probably the most stunning example of much-praised Italian
flair of the city of Graz. The cathedral also hosts a wealth of artistic treasures.
Ancora oggi il Duomo, commissionato dall’Imperatore Federico III d’Asburgo
insieme alla sua nuova residenza a Graz, ricorda l’epoca in cui Graz era la
città degli imperatori asburgici. Nel Mausoleo, un imponente monumento
funerario degli Asburgo, giace l’Imperatore Ferdinando II. Il riconosciuto e apprezzato stile italiano di Graz trova nel Mausoleo il suo culmine architettonico in termini di bellezza. Da non perdere: l’interno del Duomo, che custodisce
numerosi tesori artistici.

Der 473 m hohe grüne Berg mit dem Uhrturm ist das historische Wahrzeichen
von Graz. Auch wenn das Uhrwerk im 28 Meter hohen Turm seit 1712
pünktlich die Stunden schlägt, unter dem romantischen Wahrzeichen
von Graz mit dem herrlichen Blick auf die Stadt kann man schon einmal
die Zeit vergessen.
The 473m-high Schlossberg with its lush greenery and the clock tower have
become the most famous landmark of the city. And although the clock in the
28m-high tower hasn’t missed a beat since 1712, it is actually quite easy to forget
all about the time in this romantic setting, which offers splendid views of the city.
Si tratta dello Schlossberg, una collina verde alta 473 metri, che, insieme alla
Torre dell’Orologio, costituisce l’amato simbolo storico della città di Graz. Anche se il meccanismo dell’orologio nella torre, con i suoi 28 metri di altezza,

optische Täuschung anmutet. Die „Versöhnungsstiege“ besteht aus zwei
gegenläufigen Treppen, die auf jedem Stockwerk kurz verschmelzen, sich
trennen und wieder zusammenkommen.
The Burg in Graz, official headquarter of the regional government, is a real gem.
Centuries of reconstruction have yielded interesting elements of the Gothic,
Renaissance and Biedermeier eras. Particularly striking is the double spiral
staircase, seeming almost like an optical illusion. This “staircase of reconciliation” consists of two opposing spiral stairs, which merge briefly on each floor,
part and then rejoin.
Il Burg a Graz, l’odierna sede del Governatore della Stiria, è un vero gioiello.
Nel corso dei secoli è stato modificato notevolmente e presenta oggi elementi
di gotico, rinascimento e Biedermeier. Un capolavoro è la Scala a doppia elica
che, a prima vista, pare un’illusione ottica. La “scala della riconciliazione”,
due scale separate che ad ogni piano si uniscono, per poi dividersi e riunirsi
ancora.

wurde. Hinter der Oper befindet sich der Kaiser-Josef-Markt, der größte
Bauernmarkt von Graz.

Opera House, built in 1899 according to plans by architectural duo Fellner and
Helmer, who worked in countries all over Europe. The Kaiser-Josef market is
the city’s largest farmer’s market and is located just behind the opera house.

Das Universalmuseum Joanneum gilt als das größte seiner Art in der Mitte

The Joanneum Universal Museum is considered the biggest of its kind in Central
Europe. About 4,5 million items in the collections form the basis of a richly
faceted ‘universal’ exhibition and events schedule. A programme of exhibitions
and events at twelve locations throughout Styria transmit a unique panorama
of science, art and culture.
Il UMJ rappresenta il piu grande museo di questo genere della Mittel Europa
con 4,5 milioni circa di oggetti che creano le basi per un concetto espositivo
altamente vario e qualitativo. Mostre e manifestazioni temporanee dislocate
nei 12 musei sparsi in ogni angolo della Stiria trasmettono uno spettro veramente unico di scienza, arte e cultura.

Das umfassende Kulturzentrum verbindet die historischen Museums- und

umrahmen einen neuen attraktiven Ort der Begegnung. Von der ansprechend angelegten Piazza gelangen Besucher über Rolltreppen in den Bauch
des Ausstellungszentrums.
This large-scale cultural centre links the historic museum and library between
the streets of Rauber-, Neutor- and Kalchberggasse with a modern architectural
complex. Old buildings given a fresh lease of life enclose a wonderful new citycentre public square - a wide piazza from which escalators descend into the
events and exhibition centre.
È un vero gigante della cultura che unisce gli storici edifici museali e della
biblioteca nelle vie Rauber-, Neutor- e Kalchberggasse per creare un unico e
moderno complesso museale. Edifici storici con tocchi moderni fungono da
cornice ricca di ispirazione per il nuovo ed attraente luogo di incontro. Dal
cortile circolare scale mobili portano i visitatori nelle viscere del centro
espositivo e di manifestazioni nel quartiere culturale.

Murinsel | ISLAND IN THE MUR | ISOLA NEL FIUME MUR
Was als temporäres Projekt der Kulturhauptstadt Graz 2003 gedacht war,
hat sich zu einer Attraktion entwickelt – die Insel in der Mur. Der New Yorker
Künstler Vito Acconci plante eine Stahlkonstruktion in Form einer halboffenen Muschel. Der offene Teil – eine Arena für Aufführungen, aber auch
ein Ruheplatz für Sonnenhungrige.
Originally intended as a temporary project as part of the initiatives surrounding
Graz’s status as European Capital of Culture 2003, the island in the Mur has
turned into a long-standing attraction in its own right. New York artist Vito
Acconci designed a steel grid structure in the shape of a half-opened shell. The
open part is used as an arena for performances, but also as a place where
weary tourists and locals can soak up the sun.
Quello che all’inizio doveva essere solo un progetto temporaneo realizzato a
Graz nell’ambito delle iniziative quale Capitale europea della cultura 2003, si
rivelò ben presto una vera e propria attrattiva: l’isola nel fiume Mur. L’artista
newyorkese Vito Acconci progettò una costruzione in acciaio a forma di
conchiglia socchiusa. La parte aperta è un’arena per spettacoli e allo stesso
tempo un luogo di relax per gli amanti del sole.
Glockenspiel | carillon
Dreimal am Tag versammeln sich Grazer und Touristen zu einem netten
Schauspiel auf dem Glockenspielplatz. Vom Grazer Glockenspiel erklingen
drei Melodien. Dazu tanzt im Giebel des Hauses ein hölzernes Pärchen
in zünftiger Tracht. Am Ende kräht noch ein goldener Hahn sein dreifaches
Kikeriki. Wer's um 11.00 Uhr versäumt, kommt um 15.00 oder 18.00 Uhr
wieder.
Here locals and tourists are able to witness a delightful spectacle three times a
day, when the carillon chimes three melodies and two wooden figurines in
traditional costume appear in the gable window to dance to the music. A golden
cockerel crowing three times marks the end of the performance. If you miss the
show at 11am, come back at 3 or 6pm.
Tre volte al giorno grazesi e turisti si riuniscono a Glockenspielplatz per assistere al simpatico spettacolo del carillon di Graz. Al suono di tre melodie,
dal frontone del palazzo appare una coppia di danzatori in legno che indossano i costumi tradizionali e girano sulle note delle melodie. Al termine, un gallo
dorato canterà per tre volte il suo chicchirichì. E se per caso vi siete persi lo
spettacolo delle 11.00, ci sono ancora quelli delle 15.00 e delle 18.00.
Schloss Eggenberg | Eggenberg Palace | CASTELLO EGGENBERG
Eine Reise ins Weltall. Die Zeit in einem Bauwerk inszeniert. So könnte man
das ab 1625 errichtete Schloss Eggenberg beschreiben. Der Bauherr: Hans
Ulrich von Eggenberg, seines Zeichens politischer Berater Kaiser Ferdinands II.
Der Architekt: Giovanni Pietro de Pomis, der auch das Mausoleum Ferdinands
in Graz plante. Seit 1. August 2010 UNESCO Weltkulturerbe
A journey into space. A building portraying the course of time. This is how one
could describe Schloss Eggenberg palace, built from 1625 and commissioned by
Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg, political advisor to Emperor Ferdinand II.
The architect was Giovanni Pietro de Pomis, who also designed the mausoleum
of Emperor Ferdinand in Graz. On 1st August, 2010, it became a UNESCO
World Cultural Heritage site.
Un viaggio nello spazio. Il tempo che viene rappresentato in una struttura in
pietra. Si potrebbe descrivere così il Castello Eggenberg, costruito a partire
dal 1625. Venne commissionato da Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg, consigliere
politico dell’Imperatore Ferdinando II d’Asburgo, e progettato da Giovanni
Pietro de Pomis, autore anche del Mausoleo di Ferdinando II a Graz.
Dal 1° agosto 2010 il Castello Eggenberg è stato dichiarato dall’UNESCO
Patrimonio culturale dell’umanità.

Hier ist die chronologische Entwicklung der Stadt Graz mit dem Anspruch
dokumentiert, Geschichte vom heutigen Standpunkt und mit heutigen
formalen Mitteln zu zeigen. Das GrazMuseum gilt als Treffpunkt für alle,
die sich für die urbane Entwicklung der Stadt Graz, für ihre politische,
wirtschaftliche und soziale Geschichte ebenso wie für Kunst und Kultur mit
einem lebendigen Graz-Bezug interessieren.
The chronological development of the city is traced vividly, showing history from
today’s viewpoint and using the latest methods of interpretation. The GrazMuseum is an inspiring meeting-point for anyone interested in the city’s urban
development, its political, economic and social history and in art and culture
with an active link to Graz.
Qui lo sviluppo cronologico della città di Graz è documentato con la finalità di
spiegare la storia secondo una visione moderna attraverso l’uso degli attuali
strumenti di comunicazione. Il GrazMuseum è considerato punto d’incontro
per tutti coloro che sono interessati allo sviluppo urbano della città, alla sua
storia politica, economica e sociale nonché all’arte e alla cultura legate a Graz.

Im Kindermuseum FRida & freD im Augarten werden in erster Linie
Ausstellungen mit Kindern und für Kinder konzipiert. Unter der Devise
„Hands On – Minds On“ werden für 3- bis 12-Jährige Geschichten erzählt,
die mithilfe interessanter Experimente und Objekte greifbar gemacht
werden. Man darf berühren, flüstern, kuscheln, lauschen, lachen,
drehen und schnuppern.

Erzherzog Johann erwarb die Herrschaft 1840. Nach seinem Tod blieb das
Schloss im Familienbesitz seiner Nachkommen, der Grafen von Meran,
die heute noch hier leben. Das Jagd- und das Landwirtschaftsmuseum
des Universalmuseums Joanneum sind im Schloss Stainz beherbergt.
Archduke Johann acquired the dominion of Stainz in 1840. After his death the
palace remained the family property of his successors, the Counts of Meran, who
still live here today. The Hunting and Agriculture Museums of Universalmuseum
Joanneum are housed in Schloss Stainz palace.
L’Arciduca Giovanni d’Asburgo acquistò il podere nel 1840 e alla sua morte il
castello passò ai suoi eredi, i conti di Merano che vivono qui ancor oggi. Una
parte del castello è occupata dal Museo della caccia dell’Universalmuseum
Joanneum, un’interessante raccolta che spiega anche la relazione che esiste
tra caccia, ecologia e natura.

The 850-year-old Riegersburg castle looms over the landscape from the cliff of a
volcanic rock and offers a spectacular view over the gorgeous vineyards of southeast Styria. A modern inclined elevator can take up to 25 passengers to the
castle at the top, up 100 metres in just 90 seconds.
