Silent Space –Intensified Integrities at Meinblau Atelierhaus, Berlin, initiates the Silence
Project, a Nordic Contemporary exhibition programme that takes a multi-disciplinary angle examining how our experience of silence and space
shapes culture, as well as our own individual identities. The exhibition introduces works of seven
Nordic female artists who address the interface
between environment and personal space.
Die Ausstellung Silent Space – Intensified Integrities ist der Auftakt des Silence Project.
Sieben skandinavische Künstlerinnen zeigen Positionen, die die Überlagerung von Umwelt und
persönlichem Raum thematisieren. Das Silent
Project erforscht, welchen Einfluss unser Erleben
von Stille und Raum sowohl auf die gemeinsame
Kultur als auch auf die Identität des Einzelnen hat.
In a time of mega cities the availability of free space and silence
for an individual is diminishing and becoming a luxury. The Silence Project explores the notion that there is no freedom without responsibility and invites reflection, dialogue and experimentation. Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir’s self-portraits explore the
extreme Icelandic weather, Mia Hamari´s wooden sculptures
draw our attention to the strong connection to forest and nature,
Marja Helander’s “Darkness Series” with its dark palette and
emptiness emphasizes the sense of non-places. Nina Backman’s “Aino performance” presents a provocative exploration of
how we mark our space in an urban context. Lene Berg’s silent
video “Shaving of the Baroness” invites reflection on intimacy.
Lise Björne Linnert’s “65.299 Knots - A Pain Registry” is a sitespecific installation based on the experience of pain. Using a
scaled-down version of a typical glazed balcony in Finland, Sari
Palosaari’s “Blinds (Balcony)” is a sculptural work exploring visual silence in high-density housing. The exhibition is co - curated
by Nina Backman (artist) and Mika Hannula (catalog text).
In Zeiten von Mega-Cities werden freier Raum und Stille zu knappen, ja zu Luxusgütern. Das Silence Project arbeitet mit dem
Gedanken, dass es diese Freiheiten nicht ohne Verantwortung
gibt, und lädt zu Reflektion, Dialog und Experiment ein. Die
Selbstporträts von Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir nehmen die Extreme der isländischen Witterung auf. Wie Natur sich selbst mit
Zeichen der Zeit versieht, zeigen Mia Hamaris Holzskulpturen.
Marja Helanders fotografische Arbeit “Darkness Series” offenbart Nicht-Orte, dunkle Leere an vermeintlich überfüllten Orten.
Nina Backmans “Aino performance” fragt provokant nach der
persönlichen Setzung von Grenzen im urbanen Kontext. Lene
Bergs stummes Video “Shaving of the Baroness” lädt zur Reflektion über Intimität und Privatheit ein. Mit ihrer ortsspezifischen Installation “65.299 Knots - A Pain Registry” verarbeitet
Lise Björne Linnert auf besondere Weise die Erfahrung von
Schmerz. Visuelle Stille in engst bebauten Städten erforscht
Sari Palosaari in ihrer Installation “Blinds” (Balcony). Die Ausstellung ist kuratiert von Nina Backman (Künstlerin) and Mika
Hannula (Katalogtext).
