Metro apoya la construcción del tren
de alta velocidad, High-Speed Train
Ahora, Metro está trabajando con Google Inc. para incluir
información sobre rutas de autobús y tren en los mapas
“Google Maps.” En Google Maps se puede obtener opciones
de viaje y direcciones para hacer el viaje en Metro, así como
en automóvil o a pie.
Metro se ha comprometido a la construcción de la iniciativa
de California High-Speed Train, una red ferroviaria de alta

Los operadores de autobús de Metro Donald Dube y Jack Bailey
aman sus trabajos. Tanto que recientemente fueron distinguidos
por la Junta Directiva de Metro por llevar cada uno más de 50 años
en el trabajo.
Dube, contratado el 1º de noviembre de 1958, pensó quedarse por
seis meses hasta que pudiera regresar a la universidad pero su trabajo
temporario como operador de autobús se convirtió en una carrera de
toda la vida. “Ha sido un placer trabajar aquí y me gustaría continuar
por unos cuantos años más,” nos dice.
La Junta Directiva de Metro distinguió a dos operadores por sus 50 años de
servicio. En la foto de izquierda a derecha, Ara Najarian, Presidente de la
Junta; Jack Brailey, Operador; Donald Dube, Operador; y Art Leahy,
Director Ejecutivo.
El mismo año en que los nuevos LA Dodgers de ese entonces ganaron
su primer banderín, Jack Bailey comenzó a trabajar para el MTA de
Los Angeles, el 6 de julio de 1959. Instructor de línea y mentor de
empleados nuevos, nunca llegó tarde al trabajo en 50 años. “Ha sido
maravilloso tener 50 años de empleo estable,” dice Bailey.

Visitors to Google Maps can obtain travel options
and map directions for making the trip on Metro
as well as by car or by foot.
Metro has committed to the development of the
California High-Speed Train initiative, an 800-mile
high-speed train network that would connect Southern,
Central and Northern California.
Using the free online mapping service provided by
Google, just enter the date and time you want to arrive
at your destination and Google will show you the
options including travel time and number of transfers
needed to complete the trip on Metro.
Metro and the California High-Speed Rail Authority
will be working together to establish high-speed train
service in the LA Corridor using some of Metro-owned
facilities and rights-of-way on a >rst segment that
would connect LA to Anaheim.
Google Maps also provides walking directions that
show you how to get to the nearest transit stop or
station, as well as how to get to your destination once
you leave the bus or train. For more detailed trip
planning visit metro.net.
Construction could begin as early as 2012 and
open within ten years. The construction period and
ongoing operation would create 90,000 regional jobs
while establishing a new centralized high-speed
transportation alternative.

Metro Bus Operators Donald Dube and Jack Bailey love their jobs.
So much so that both were honored recently by the Metro Board
of Directors for each having more that 50 years on the job.
The festival runs from 10am to 10pm Saturday and
10am to 9pm Sunday. Admission to the event is free
both days.
Dube, hired Nov. 1, 1958, intended to stay for six months until
he could a=ord to return to college but his temporary job as a bus
operator turned into a life-long career. “It’s been a pleasure for me
to work here and I’d like to stay on quite a few more years,” he says.

LA hosts the KVEA Presents Fiestas Patrias California
Mexican Independence Day celebration on Saturday
and Sunday, September 12-13.
Metro Bus Operators Donald Dube and Jack Bailey love their jobs.
So much so that both were honored recently by the Metro Board
of Directors for each having more that 50 years on the job.
The festival runs from 10am to 10pm Saturday and
10am to 9pm Sunday. Admission to the event is free
both days.
Dube, hired Nov. 1, 1958, intended to stay for six months until
he could a=ord to return to college but his temporary job as a bus
operator turned into a life-long career. “It’s been a pleasure for me
to work here and I’d like to stay on quite a few more years,” he says.

The same year the then-new LA Dodgers won their >rst pennant,
Jack Bailey went to work for the Los Angeles MTA on July 6, 1959.
A line instructor and a mentor to new employees, he’s never been
late to work in the entire 50 years. “It’s been wonderful to have 50
years of steady employment,” says Bailey.

OohLaL A Festival In Hollywood
September 23-25
The OohLaLA Festival is bringing a bit of France to
LA with a three-day musical showcase September
23-25 at the Henry Fonda Theatre, 6126 Hollywood
Boulevard, just down the street from Metro Rail’s
Hollywood/Vine Station.
Spanning three nights, the festival will bridge two
continents highlighting the current French music
scene with a series of performances ranging from
