Was beschäftigt die englischsprachige Welt im August?
VANESSA CLARK spürt die heißen Storys für Sie auf.
What’s the alternative?
Sport Are you bored with the Olympics? Are you looking for an
alternative? en go to Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales, for the World Alternative Games.
ere, you will have the chance to watch, or try, some events that are not on the programme for London. ere will be egg-throwing, underwater hockey, wife-carrying, backwards running and mountain biking in a river.
For people who don’t want to do anything too strenuous, the World Alternative Games
include the office-chair slalom. e most important rule: you must stay seated at all times.
ere won’t be any gold medals, but it sounds like a lot of fun.
Who is Jodi Picoult?

every year. She is also very active in the campaign for
gay rights, as her teenage son has recently come out.
Picoult studied writing at Princeton, a famous university. She also met her husband there.
