Therefore we keep both Standard Modular Jacks as well as High Performance Modular Jacks. Materials used include: • Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) - thermoplastic polymer, mechanically strong, acts as an insulator, heat-resistant up to 200 °C making it compatible for wave solder and cost sensitive applications • DSM Stanyl - high temperature polyamide, highest stiffness and strength, resists deformation up to 290ºC ideal for lead-free soldering, unmatched creep resistance for superior pin retention, ideal for IR reflow applications • Nylon PA4T - Halogen Free, Specific attributes include excellent dimensional stability, compatibility with lead free soldering, high stiffness and mechanical strength at elevated temperatures, high melting point. • • All housing materials are UL 94V-0 flame retardant Housings are available with materials that can withstand higher temperatures These housings are suitable for IR Reflow soldering process where the entire housing body is subjected to heat • Housing color options are available for the following series: RJESE and RJLSE 7 Shielding • • • • • Amphenol’s shielding provides superior protection with a conductive metal composite shell surrounding the connector which prevents Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), current leakage & crosstalk Amphenol shielding is made of a copper alloy, plated with matte tin, nickel or stainless steel with tin dipped tails Tin dipping mitigates the propagation of tin whiskers, which can bridge two adjacent leads and form an electrical short , also improves the solderability of the shield Nickel plated or Stainless Steel Shields without tin dipping can experience solderability issues Ferrite filtering is also available to protect against high frequency EMI 8 Contact positions • Configuration options include the RJ11, RJ14, RJ45 and RJ50 standards RJ45, 8P8C connector • Commonly used in Ethernet jacks and networking • Available in multiple series including: RJE56, RJULE, RJE07, RJESE, FRJAE and others RJ50, 10P10C connector • Commonly used in electrical equipment and data transfer systems • Available in multiple series including •RJE74, RJE09, RJE15 and others RJ11, 6P2C connector • Commonly used in telephone devices • Available in multiple series including: RJE01, RJE56, RJULE, RJE07, RJESE, FRJAE and others RJ14, 6P4C connector • Commonly used in telephone devices • Available in multiple series including: RJE01, RJE56, RJULE, RJE07, RJESE, FRJAE and others 9 LEDs • Amphenol’s Modular Jacks are available with LEDs in a variety color options for visual feedback, removing the need for additional space typically required for indicators and reducing component and labor costs by incorporating LED’s into the connector • As an innovation leader, Amphenol has developed, in partnership with its supplier, a LED that is more robust and better suited for the high temperature lead free IR reflow solder process with a smaller failure rate than common LED’s. 10 High Temp LEDs • While being subjected to high temperatures during the IR reflow solder process, regular LEDs are unable to handle the stress caused by the extreme heat • Metal components and epoxy bodies begin to expand and contract at different rates, resulting in the breakage of electrical bonds • Although these LEDs may continue to work after the soldering process, they have a failure rate of approximately 5%, and malfunctioning will most likely occur when the RJs are being used by customers, resulting in the need for costly field repairs. • Amphenol has developed a robust LED solution that is able to withstand the heat of the IR Reflow soldering process. 11 • The High Performance products from Amphenol are available in a variety of configurations, including: ultra-low, low and standard profile designs, EMI shielding, LED’s and tab up orientation of the mating face. • Our design and manufacturing process enables consistent and reliable performance at a competitive price. • Amphenol’s High Speed RJ products are stand alone spec compliant. 12 Amphenol’s product advantages Competition Less Variety No LEDs Typically tab down design Custom footprint Additional components required to achieve intended performance Amphenol Ultra-Low, Low and Standard Profile Design Spec compliant w/o additional components Incorporated LEDs Tab Up Design No Special PCB Requirements Performance Upgradeable w/o FP change 13 The Competition No LEDs Tab Down Design Only Custom PCB Design At this point in time, the product selection from the competition is limited with regards to available options and configurations. This series is ideal for CAT3 applications The standard series are not suitable for Lead Free IR reflow solder process but many can be produced using high temperature material as an option Within this group contact styles are PCB through hole and Surface Mount options. RJE08 42 RJULE This series is available in R/A single port configuration. Standard (Tab Down) orientation with ultra low profile The ultra low profile design is accomplished by the connector sitting recessed within a PCB cutout. Profile height above PCB is less than 10mm. Standard and rear mount shield options Suitable for lead‐free IR reflow solder process. This series is ideal for CAT3 to CAT5 applications but has also been used in CAT5E applications (For CAT5E applications additional components and design features may be required) 43 RJE56 Available in R/A single port configuration.
