Vananzo Carmena Pedrola The Shivery Family John C. Kahler Frank Brandis The Silks, Sr. family Dolores Edler Readings for next week Third Sunday of Easter From the Deacon’s Desk Dear Friends: I can’t believe that today is already the second Sunday of Easter. The church also designates this Sunday as Divine Mercy Sunday. This recognition of Divine Mercy is a reminder to us that if we are to love each other as Jesus asks, we must do so with mercy. I read not long ago that the companions of true love are mercy and forgiveness. If we think about Jesus, we realize very quickly that he practiced forgiveness, mercy and true love throughout his entire life. How many times did Jesus help those who were downtrodden, accused justly or unjustly, and those no one wanted? Jesus spent a great deal of time with the lepers, the sick, the blind, and the lame. He was also known to pray over those who had died and bring them back to life. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus forgives those who beat him, crowned him with thorns, scourged him, and even screamed “crucify him!” Jesus cries out to his Father to forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. Not only does Jesus forgive he makes excuses for those who have hurt him! Wow, that really is merciful love and forgiveness. It is my sincere hope that each one of us in some way can learn to be more loving, merciful and forgiving. It’s not easy. Following a person like Jesus never is! But it is worth the effort. To love as Jesus loves is what he asks of us. Ours is to try our best no matter how much effort it takes. May God bless you and watch over you and may you know that he is always with you.
